go ahead and flame me for still using it.....i like it for mp3s

anyway...im using a new custom system and i cant primary connect...this is the msg i get

no tcp port for incoming connections
no udp port for incoming and outgoing packets

any ideas how to set em up?

depends on which router u have.

on my sweex, i login to the settings, and under NAT settings it has an option for virtual server. Here you should be able to set the TCP and UDP ports required to forward to the IP of the PC.

other routers will probably be slightly different. You will almost certainly be able to get direct instructions from the manufacturers website.

Chances are, your router IS the firewall... Have a look at Portforward.com

check in the settings of your winmx client. i believe it runs off of port 6699.

in your router you can set port forwarding of that port to your specific ip.

oh and also i wouldnt flame you for useing winmx. i used to use it myself

but as i quote before in a post i stay out of
"we dont care where or how you download the shit."

dont have time right now to look but just for some extra info before i start tooling around.....i have a westell and its wide open...everytime a laptop comes to my house the link right up...what do i need to change or where should i look for it

You're one of the reasons I have a connection wherever I go.

Open up a web browser, and put in either...

http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1

Most of the time, either or these will take you to the config of the router.

There you'll have to take some steps to lock it down. Check out www.dslreports.com or give the model number here, I'm sure Westell is quite common (I've seen it on Verizon installs). If you're not using the wireless, just disable it completely. If you want to leave it enabled, force the router to allow only certain MAC addresses, cancel broadcasting of your SSID, and change up the settings to allow only secure connections (still not secure enough :/ ).

::BTW I forgot about once you connect to the router, you'll need the user and pass. Check your ISP's website or call them up. I had a listing of common passwords based on Make and Model of the router, but it's on another PC.

NS yes but the firewall wasnt activated....
vipah i got into the settings and the only mention of nat was just a mention of it under medium security settings on the firewall....no editing there..and nothing on tcp udp ports anywhere i saw
manal i looked around but i didnt see any port forwarding settings either

anyway i have a westell A90-327W15-06 from verizon if anyone else has one

dude, ive just had a look on the westell site and there might be some info there for you, its not the exact model number, this one is Versalink A90-327W10-06, damn similar, have a look at the documentation, has some info on port forwarding
