Playstation 3 40gb announced + 60gb model price cut

quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced details of its new PLAYSTATION 3 40GB model that will be launched throughout Europe on October 10th 2007 at a price of €399 (£299).

The new PS3 is being introduced to provide an affordable entry point into the world of High Definition gaming and entertainment, and includes all the features central to the PLAYSTATION 3 experience; true next generation gameplay, High Definition Blu-ray Disc movies, SIXAXIS Wireless Control, and Wireless Internet and HDMI connectivity, all powered by the Cell Broadband Engine, the digital heart of PS3.

The specification of the new 40GB model has been determined following feedback from thousands of PS3 owners, and features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.

£350 for the 60gb model with 2 games is pretty good imo.

May have to indulge in one soon , although the ps3 lacking good titles is still a problem.

the 40 gig model is not backwards compatible with ANY ps2 game. no backward compatability whatsoever other than ps1 games.

Yeah but really , who cares ? If you wanna play ps2 games buy a ps2.

Even though the ps2 was backwards compatible ive never played a ps1 game on it (and i have a few) same with my 360.

It's a huge deal for some people. some people never owned a ps2, or traded in their ps2 for money on their ps3's.

i dunno, i think its kinda silly. i do use my 360 for backwards compatability sometimes.. halo 2, ninja gaiden black, etc.

I use the backwards compatibility function to play the God of War series.

Ok i got owned then...

I suppose if you want backward compatability you'd better get you ass in gear and get the 60 gig before they end the run.

Its bullshit, I bought mine launch day and have played it about 10 times... The lack of games is ghey too.

Not sure why I bought it really, bit of an impulse buy

Fucking spaz

I must admit, I am tempted by the 40gb model which I would use for a Blu-Ray player, and maybe the odd PS3 exclusive. Everything else I would use my 360 for.

Saying that though, i'm so scared of my 360 just falling over, its taken most of the fun out of playing it!

^Kinda my stance on the 360... I'd like to buy one (and probably mod it) but I'd be two scared to turn the fucker on lest it points it's pulsating red ring at me.

Until I stop hearing stories about how unreliable the 360 is I'll stick with my Wii... Probably to be topped-up by a PS3 once ANYTHING decent comes out for it (Sony should be fucking ashamed of it's current line up, although the Wii is slowly collecting "duds" as well).

I believe the 65nm 360 is currently working it's way into Europe which should stop the overheating issues. If so, my advice would be to wait for the xmas rush to flush out most of the 90nm stock and then buy in February once the January sales get rid of the remainder 90nm stock.

Well the people who never had a PS2 aren't exactly losing out then are they, if they never had one and thus never had a back catalogue. Also, do you really get more than about $30 trade in for a PS2 these days? Hardly worth it.

Also, the new 360s in the UK are the 65nm ones if produced after.. August I believe. Doesn't really matter as they have the extended warranties these days. I traded one in with a pierced warranty sticker too. Shh.

i think as excited as i am about the ps3, im good with the wii for now. as a casual gamer these days, i dont get a lot of play time with what i have, investing that much in a new system that won't get the play it needs seems wasteful.

also, i'm still on the fence about 360 vs ps3, mostly due to hd-dvd vs. blu-ray... once that gets sorted out, it'll probably make the decision easier.

problem is, theyre still making games for the ps2.. witrhout backwards compat, people wouldnt get to play games like god of war 2, that just recently came out, or the new twisted metal game thats coming to ps2 only.

yeah, the 360's with the falcon mobos are starting to hit here too, if mine ever dies i'm going to pick one up.. both of mine are still going strong though.

Now the ps3 has got cheaper i can see blu-ray getting more popular , quite a few people i have talked to have said they're considering a ps3 mainly for the blu-ray player.
