PS2 to play DVDR

OK I know it's gotta be possible to get DVD-R movies to work on a PS2.

Because I burned a movie to a FujiFilm DVD-R, and it worked on a friends ps2, but the exact same disc won't work on my ps2.

Anyone know if there is a list of models that play DVD-R's? Or a list of Brands (DVDR) that work on the PS2?

Yep. kap0n3 is right on the money. Get your PS2 chipped too and you'll be good to go!

...or chuck your PS2 in the bin and get a Gamecube

Nah, there's no way it's chipped. He has a dial-up net connection, so there's no way he could download, and all his games are original's (not copies).

Thanks! Main reason I wanted to know this is so I can burn some movies for my girlfriend, and I think she does have a newer model.

Yup! It works. I got Memorex DVD-R's and they worked on my PS2. I don't remember what model # my ps2 was, but it was the first one because I got it on the day of launch.

They put out a new version of PS2 in the last week or two. It's got a yellow tab with a [ + ] symbol. The new features are:

IR Port - infrared remote port built in
Progressive scan dvd player
Quieter fans and operation
DVD+R/W support

Same price as any other PS2.

Damn, I want Progressive scan. I got my ps2 and a crappy apex.

But I tried it on my gf's ps2, it's a newer model, and DVD-R worked on hers too.

I had troubles with v1-3 model PS2's when it come to reading DVD-R movies, but with v4 and up its pretty much fine with most media

btw do NOT use Princo DVD-R's - they ware the PS2's laser down alot cause their so cheap!

Posted by dalton4life on 11-29-2003 03:57 AM:

I have an older PS2 and it seems the only thing it well play is DVD+R. I haven't been able to get anything else to work.

Posted by kap0n3 on 11-29-2003 04:38 AM:

so all this talk about the PS2 playing DVD-/+R media is all about movies only right ? none of you meant your PS2s were reading games ?

Thanks great info i got to try it.

The PS2's newest version which has the little yellow "plus" symbol on it's corners has a few new features.

*IR port for remote

*quieter operation, fan, etc.

*DVD+R support

*something else I can't recall right now

Apparently they didn't support DVD+R in the previous models.. why do you say that's the only one that would play?
