Corrupt dvd-r help!

im not sure if this is a dupe thread, i havent checked. if it is then sorry!!

i have a couple of dvds that i have burned from other dvds, converted avi's etc and sometimes when i want to do a copy of that disc (eg for a friend) it says 'data error, cycle redundancy check' in dvd shrink, 'error' in dvd decrypter and always says read error on nero copy dvd and it wont get past that point for hours sometimes unless i turn off my pc at the wall. does anyone know if there is a way to copy the dvd onto my hard drive to repair the errors, or repair while copying to hdd or copy disk-to-disk while correcting errors etc? ive been trying for a while now and i cant find a solution

It's in DVD Decrypters options, it's in the Device and IO tabs for setting hardware and software retries on reads (and writes).

I would avoid continuously attempting to copy a damaged DVD, the strain on your DVD-ROM is too much, it will just be worn out very quickly because of things like heat build up wearing the laser down.

If something like DVD Decrypter at its default level can't copy the DVD first time through, I'd give up. It's not worth killing a DVD-ROM trying to copy a disc.

Well for me at least, my DVD-Rom drive is a DVD drive + CDRW combo drive (I try to avoid using my DVD burner for burning dvd's)....plus it's not so much the money for replacing the drive, it's the hassle of it breaking and then not having one for a few days while newegg ships me a new one

gonna try it

i have that cpy of a copy crc problem too on about 5 of my movies just today actually. sooms to mostly be the ones i did back n the day with x copy (which is crap). im gonna try this bad copy thing out. im not too worried about my drive i know it can handle th abuse i can burn all day and have no problems (its an external though, that make a diffrence?). besides i got a backup (also external) in the closet if it does blow out. but i wonder what causes this crc error, i dont get it on any ive done with shrink. im gonna be pondering (narf) this one for awhile.

Depends on where you live in the world? Around $40-60 NZD in New Zealand for example.

... Hhmm, bust a rom reading a DVDR which is impossible to completely read in the first place, or don't, and save the time and hassle of going the shop to pick up another rom, hmmm.. genius

Yeah I finally bit the bullet and replaced my Sony DRU-500A that burned at 4x max but was at least 3 years old....and that thing is still alive and kicking in an older pc i have.

i cant believe how cheap the DL burners are. will prob be awhile before the price drops on the DL blanks

bad copy didnt do jack for me. gave me an error at the same point on the disc. i started a thread to discuss ways to possibly overcome this CRC error whn the only disc you have to copy from gives it to ya. hopefully we can put our heads together and figure it out because im put of ideas myself

I've already told you... Clean the DVD then set DVD Decrypter to retry on read errors and set it to "ignore" read errors - then if it gets stuck it'll just move on. Chances are you won't spot it in the rip and if you do it'll probably just be a very brief glitch.
