HELP Neversoft (or anyone)

Friday my Windows XP became corrupt, No amount of Repair attempts could fix it.
I installed a fresh XP on a new hard drive and connected the old one as Slave.

My question is this.
Where (on the old HD) are all my emails kept ?
I've got back the accounts, but not the old emails.
I use Outlook Express.

don't know if its my FireFox, but the page don't load properly.
But anyways that looks like "How to Backup and Restore"

i didn't "backup" the emails, so I'm sure i cant "restore" them in the normal manner.

all i need to to find the email file or files from the old HD (plugged in as slave)
and drag em across to the Current main HD (to the proper folder)

I did this one before but i be buggered dry if i can remember how i did it -says arthur

depends on what program you are using for email:

if it is outlook express:

c:\documents and settings\your name\local settings\identities\[bigass number]\microsoft\outlook express

this contains your mail folders in .idx format

You windows address book is store in the local settings\microsoft\address book

For Outlook:

c:\documents and settings\your name\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook

Outlooks data is all stored in a .pst file.

Not so far.

I had two different HD issues within 3 days, one at work and one at home. He helped me recover from both. All Hail.

Yeah, he makes me sick... I'm pretty nifty when it comes to Windows but I'd only rate myself a "6" and ELJ a "7 or 8" - but I'm better looking than him and get laid more often so in the grand scheme of things:

FUCK YOU ELJ YOU FUCKING BIG NERD

Glad to help Arthur. The .idx and .dbx are really the same file, just different incarnations.

PG: No (OK, I'm sure there is SOMETHING I don't know about Microsoft OS) and 2 years ago, I was the equal in *nix OS as well, until I quit using them due to outside circumstances.

LOLobo: Thank you for you worship and praise. You will be spared when the revolution comes.

NS: Yes, you probably do get laid more than me, some thing just happen like that, and a hearty FUCK YOU TOO!

AND all in one night i must add.

Soon i will release the U-Tube video from my mobile (if he don't pay the ransom)

I'm sad to say that i have witnessed with these very eyes the extent of Neversofts filth
At a club that holds the promotion called...

HARD-ON Formally known as Fisted (Google it)

I used to be pretty slick with all things Windows related but then I moved away from desktop/server support into networking back in 1999 and my knowledge has rapidly dwindled since then. I sometimes struggle when it comes to fixing my own PC these days.

^Agreed, I can administer Active Directory and naff around in various domain admin tools with my eyes closed but I got stuck fixing a fucking Outlook problem earlier and had to Google

...and that is where a lot of people fall flat. Shit, if I get stuck investigating a complex MPLS fault, I know I can use Google to help me out. It's amazing how many people in the IT industry still have no idea how to be resourceful and use another source of knowledge other than their brain. If I have to use Google to help me fix a problem in 10 minutes instead of struggling on my own, I will... I'm then seen as some kind of fucking genius (which... I am, but that's not the point) when anybody else in the department with a hint of a clue on how to use Google could have probably found the same answer!

Just out of interest, would it be possible to use a boot disk on a windows password protected computer and use the xcopy command to copy email data from the outlook folder onto disk.

If this is not possible, anyone know a way to copy email data from Outlook without having to actually log on to windows. ?? It is a laptop and it would be difficult to take the hd out.

Boot to a command prompt from a disk that will read the filesystem, FAT or NTFS as the case might be. Even a recovery console prompt will work.

Then go into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and copy the outlook.pst file to another place. it has all the contacts, emails and calendar data in it.
