x264

Are there any plans to add a x264 section to the site?

Sort of... but "plans" don't always get executed around here. Something to do with us being a bunch of lazy fuckers I think

errmm what's x264 and the other one?

Posted by shabby on 07-08-2007 06:54 PM:

HD movie releases either 720p or 1080p, x264 are compressed movies while h264 are in their original format.

Not quite. x264 is a free h264 encoder. It's used for a variety of releases, ranging from some Blu-Ray rips (some discs aren't crackable yet, so rippers use the "analog hole") to >=720p HDTV captures of TV shows. (OTA HDTV is broadcast encoded MPEG-2, which is huge) Not all Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs are encoded with h264; some use VC-1 (WMV9) or even straight MPEG-2. h264 is more common though.

Anyway, x264 just means the release was encoded to h264/AVC using the x264 encoder. The resulting video is still h264 compliant.

Well , I think anybody that thinks x264 and h264 are two different codecs I would laugh.

Well ... I think in a few years time x264 will reign over xViD since processors are getting more and more good .... quad core and such I guess. I'm wondering what will the internet piracy look like when it's 10 years older , I'm still currently young though.

Yeah especially as x264 isn't a codec.

Thanks! Now ... any chance you can add it to the RSS feeds?
