Review: Red Dragon (2002)
Review based off of: Red.Dragon.DVDRip.SVCD-DCi
Red Dragon is creepy and entertaining. The storlyline is pretty good. Will Graham is trying to find a murder, nick named "The Tooth Fairy." In order to find him, he seeks the help of Hannibal Lecter. Everyone knows who that is. Speaking of which, Hannibal is less comical than he was in the last cannibal outing, and we the audience get a reminder that he is a bad guy. One problem, though, is that things become slightly confusing part of the way through. Also, the movie moves very slowly. It could use a bit of pacing. By the end, however, everything ties together neatly, with an unextpected but terrifying plot twist.
The acting by Anthony Hopkins is top notch. He is as creepy in his role as Hannibal as he ever will be. Some people say he is getting too old for the part, but he still scares me. Definitely not someone I'd want to have dinner with. Edward Norton here is stellar. Anyone who's seen him in American History X knows how good of an actor he is. In Red Dragon, he does not disappoint. I can't think of anyone better than him to play the main character of the film, William Graham. Full of fear, but not a coward. Also, Emily Watson is really good. She plays the blind woman, Reba Mclaine, who befriends the murderer, Ralph Fiennes. Fiennes plays "The Tooth Fairy," and I have to say, I was somewhat disapointed. Not as scary as I thought he would be.
Overall, Red Dragon kicks serious ass. It's not as good as Silence of the Lambs, but easily superior to the horribly boring Hannibal. I can recommend to anyone who likes the Hannibal movies, or enjoys scary movies/psychologic thrillers in general.
Although rated R, I recommend ages 15 and up. It's not nearly as violent or gory as the last movie.
very nice and well thought out review.
