Review *New*(2001): The Safety of Objects w/Glenn Close
And the oscar goes to American Beauty, NOT!!! This Safety of Objects was originally released in 2001, and boy it should have received a national theatrical release, it is that good.
Based on a Best Selling Short Story of different stories all wrapped into one movie.
As we see, the star of the movie is Esther, played by Glenn Glose, who's life is consumed with caring for her coma bound son Paul, played by Dawson Creek's Joshua Jackson, who gets into a horrific accident, caused by his sister Julie (Jessica Campbell, Election) tries to go back to living a gilt-free life.
Then we see Jim, played by My Best Friends Weddings co-star Dermot Mulroney, an attorney gets passed over for a promotion, gets antsy with his wife and discusses why they should stay together, not withstanding the two children he is not sure he ever wanted.
Next up we see Annette, a single mom and former lover to Paul, you remember the comatose son of Esther, deals with her abusive ex husband, and her feelings towards her love to Paul.
That is just few of the stories you see in this amazing tale of story telling, and if you think you are seeing another American Beauty in this tale, think again. Director Rose Troche takes this film into a direction that makes us the viewer actually give a damn about what is happening to his charactders, and that The Safety of Objects takes a back seat to what true movie making is about.
Its a shake that this "Indie" flick wasn't released in the United States, I got it from a friend of mine, who said to watch it, I'd say this film can compete for the oscars.
The Saftey of objects has a masturbation-scene, euthanasia, car-accident, and a guitar, all of which plays a key role in this film.
The Safety of Objects is rated 'R' for sexual content and language, it has a running time of 2 hours and 1 minute.
My rating: 9 out of 10.

HAHAHA! I knew this movie was going to be good and i'm glad to see my predicition has paid off.
I can't wait to see this movie and after reading this review i want to see it even more.
I highly doubt this will come to UK theatres so i guess i'll have to wait on a bootleg release (if any). My fingers are officially crossed.
