Review: Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over is a visual dream come true for 10-year-old filmgoers, along with the rest of us who sometimes want to feel like a kid at the movies.
A virtual explosion of color, action and energy, the third Spy Kids film uses all-digital 3-D filmmaking to put us inside the manic mayhem of a life-and-death video game called Game Over. And to propel his tale, writer-director Robert Rodriguez uses 3-D technology with more wit and imagination than any filmmaker has done before (remember the countless other 3-D movies from the 80's anyone?).
OK..here's the plot..Juni (Daryl Sabara), the youngest member of the Cortez family, is in a race against time to find his sister Carmen (Alexa Vega), who is trapped inside this video game. Through adventures on five levels, Juni must not only save Carmen but confront the game's creator, the Toymaker (Sylvester Stallone..yes Sly). He's a demented, modern-day pied piper using Game Over's allure to gain control of children's minds.
There are tons of cameo appearances from characters from earlier Spy Kids movies (as I am told by my nephew), but the real star here is Rodriguez, a filmmaker who is also credited with the writing, cinematography and set design, even the music. And all those elements are imaginative and entertaining.

This movie really didn't do it for me. While I liked the concept of going 3D with Spy Kids. I don't beleive the 3d was done very well. Sure the characters stuck out and looked 3 Dimensional but as for the objects that stuck out at you. Well, that wasn't done very well IMO. Only one scene I thought was pretty cool. Was when some blob things were floating out and actually looked like they were floating in the air. Otherwise the 3D dimension was very sub-par. I did enjoy Ricardo Montelbon being in this movie. He was the one bright spot for me. While all the Spy Kids movies were pretty kiddie to begin with. The first 2 were definitely better than this movie IMO. And last but not least is Sylvester Stallones performance. Maybe it's just me. But he sucked . Reminded me of his performance in Judge Dredd. And I'm a diehard Stallone fan. Maybe he is better off as Rocky or Rambo. Which Stallone is supposed to do Rocky VI after his next movie and has indicated he would no another Rambo . If there is a good plot. Anyways, I give this movie a 5 out of 10.
