Wii: Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
Well, this is more of my "first impressions" than a full review. I'll update with something more meaty later (probably).
Basically, here's the low-down thus far:
1. The US release (Resident_Evil_4_Wii_Edition_USA_Wii-PROMiNENT) works fine on a modded PAL console. I tested both on-the-fly patching via the WiiFree and I also patched the ISO and burnt... Both worked a treat.
2. I don't know if there's a firmware update included but I ran the fucker through Brickblocker just to be sure... When I booted the disk it didn't try to update anything but I have no idea if that's because I removed it or because it wasn't there in the first place
The game... The first 30 minutes or so appear to be pretty much exactly like the GC version graphically speaking. Sure, its fairly pretty but its aliased to fuck. Controls? Well, they work ok but I would've liked a few more controller options:
Firstly, you press the B-trigger to get the gun out and "A" to fire... Why not reverse them so you actually *fire* with the fucking *trigger* huh huh?
Secondly, although using the nunchuck analogue stick to turn is fine when you're walking, it's a cunt to get used to when you're in "aim mode" as you naturally try and pan around with the Wiimote+crosshair... They should've included the option to pan around if the crosshair gets near the edges of the screen but if it's in there, it's buried.
Overall it seems ok but I can't help thinking they could've tweaked it a bit more - fixed the aliasing, offered more control schemes. Aw well... At least it didn't brick my Wii

If you start up with a gamecube controller in (and then apparently take out the batteries from your wii-mote) it'll let you control it "old style". Giving you a lovely widescreen Resi 4 with all the goodies from the ps2 version.
Haven't tried it yet, but I've just re-modded my wii with the wiikey (after taking off the winja JUST in case online play gave me any hassle). Was not pleasant. Stupidly when I un-modded my console I took all the wires off. Pad 4 on my wii came off the first time I attempted an install so I had to solder straight on to the drive chip.
Slightly nerve racking.
