Please make Main Page more Opera compatible

It would be very nice, if the Main Page wouldn't have such big spacings between the single Releases when brwosing with Opera...

and i think there are many many users that use opera

jeah post a screeny

It looks just like in the pic napalmfuzz posted
But in IE it looks like this:

As you can see, the first column "Date" fits exactly - in Opera the year doesn't fit into the first line. So each line is twice as big as it should be...
It's not a big thing, but you definitely have a better overview in IE, and I don't think it's a big deal to make it fit in Opera AND IE.

Posted by dc_man on 05-07-2003 12:33 AM:

Hell I think it looks sexier with the double lines.

Posted by pHo on 05-07-2003 01:19 AM:

email opera and tell them to make their css parsing the same as the "standard" then.

i use opera myself, and i dont have a problem with it. our ccs code is verified to be standard, operas parsing of it isn't. not our fault.

Well, I dont't have a big "problem" with it - but in IE it just looks just better I think. You see more releases at the same time on the screen, you just get a better overview.
I did't want to blame anyone or say that your CSS code is wrong - I just thought I might have more success asking you to make the first column a few pixels bigger, than asking Opera to rewrite their CSS parsing code...
Obviously, if the browser misses the standard by just a pixel or two, you already get lines that are twice as high as normal on the Main Page. Your code might me standard - but why can't you make it a little more browser-fault-tolerant??

All other browsers except IE are lame. Just use IE its more compatible with everything.

Posted by pHo on 05-07-2003 02:22 PM:

actually, ie sucks total ass. its probably the worst browser out there when it comes to usability, and the tabbed style of opera/mozilla etc leaves IE as "rarely used" in my programs list.

as for the page, i dont think its going to be changed. opera should use standard CSS parsing, its probably its biggest downfall (altho i have no problem with the way it displays css, in fact i'd say it looked nicer) but i dont think we should have to compensate for other companies mistakes. if we change the pixels for Opera, then its going to screw up in IE. or do we have to implement some sort of browser check code so it can decipher how it should be displayed? well thats just gonna use up extra cycles.

best thing to do, buy a bigger monitor on my screen i see 32 entries on the front page, which dates back to 0427. surely thats enough for anyone?

I am almost sure, if you'd "steal" 2 pixels from the release name and assign it to the Date field, it would look alright in all browsers... without any check or something. But I don't think I can really convince you, so I'll live with it as it is now

The very first thing I did when I got my new PowerBook was delete IE and everything related to it and download Safari from Apple. Even in version 0.6.?-Beta, it beats the pants off of IE and Netscape in terms of speed. And it features glorious tabs.

Page works fine in Mozilla (screenshot attached), so it must be buggy rendering in Opera rather than buggy CSS that happens to work in both IE and Mozilla.

Horizon, I echo that. I used IE until Safari came out just because Mozilla had that God awful UI and Chimera was still a bit immature. By the way, who was smoking crack when they renamed it Camino. Chimera is such a cooler name.

Did you know that IE for Windows has some of the nastiest bugs (and security flaws) known to man, yet is still the most popular browser in the world? I don't get it. There are faster, better free browsers out there, why not use them? People who say anything other than IE is crap has no idea what they are talking about.

Looks great in Mozilla... Just like in IE.

IE comes with Windows and the general public is ignorant and lazy, it's like the saying "why fix it if it's not broken". Computer geeks like us (I use that term loosely) know better, ask any joe blow with a pc and internet access about Opera/Mozilla/Safari/Camino/etc. and they'll be like "what!?@$???". Netscape on the other hand has had a little exposure but I don't want ot waste my time telling that tale.

I prefer netcaptor.
It's IE with the opera interface :}
In that it uses IE's client..but has tabs and things like that.

Posted by pHo on 06-10-2003 12:13 PM:

but the fact its still IE makes it not worth using surely

you might possibly have heard that, but only from the mouth of a total retard. opera is the shit, whilst ie is just shit. no point arguing, as its quite obviously the truth
