Security On Bit Torrent

I was just wondering what is the safest bittorrent app to use. Ive been reading up that its really easy for companies to go after bit torrent users cause its easy to find someones ip thru bit torrent.

Are there any bit torrent apps that have more security or anything ?

Thanks in advance

Posted by dstrac99d on 07-13-2005 09:36 PM:

private trackers are slightly more secure because you need a user/pass to get on the tracker and join the swarm, but its real easy to get round that..so the answer is,bittorrent isn't a very secure p2p,but as far as p2p's go,torrents are groovy..

You might's well put a sign in your window with "I AM WAREZ" written on it.

i just don`t understand why you`d want to use them anyway they are so slow about 6 months ago i did dl a dvd of bt it took 2 fucking days it normally takes me about 4hrs why not do a bit of research and use an other method

sometimes bt has stuff to offer that newsgroups dont.....i stopped using them after i got TOSsed last year and found the newsgroups....from what i remember there were apps that hide ip address ...dont remember what they were called or if they even work anymore(or ever did)...anybody else know anything about em?

Use Azureus with the SafePeer plugin

Posted by dstrac99d on 07-14-2005 07:18 PM:

safe peer apps&plugin's are crap!! the tracker logs your ip and anyone can look at the list of ppl on the tracker/torrent...i use newsgroups and such, but i do still use torrents also(for specific files that i want)..on well seeded torrents(and good private trackers) it isn't slow at all..i have topped 2000KB/s on some torrents and regularly get over 1200KB/s...so i still have much love for a few good torrent sites...anyways,i don't download anything that would get me in trouble

Hahaha those peer gaurdian things don't do anything. All they do is filter out ip addresses, it's not going to even slow down the *aa from finding your IP.

Posted by sunup on 07-15-2005 05:08 AM:

as posted above by others, you have to be careful on BT, most don't realize that downloading isn't were they are gonna git you, it's uploading, if your using that BT protocol then your uploading while you're d/ling. there are plenty of anti's around on BT just looking for people to scare off. my isp sent me a Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) letter stating that i was hosting a file(filename.avi), and it needed to be deleted right away. (I was nearly d/ling a file) but with BT Downloading = Uploading. Thats when i stopped BT all together. Methods come and Go, But im chillen right here safe as i know it > irc/newsgroups

As far as security if you got charged, PG can help, becuase they can't prove you actually shared the file (sort of) but they can still get your IP in a swarm. I use tor when I use torrents (cause i seed and you only need a few kb per user) and it hides me good nuff :/

Everything on the net is logged and can be traced back to you. It might take longer but if they really really wanted to find you, they will.. BTs are not a good idea in my opinion. I still have the one that shows all the ips of everyone connected to me so I know others use it too. With torrent dls they can even tell you what part of the file you dl'ed even if you didnt complete the download.. Id stay clear of BT unless you absolutely cant find it anywhere else and even then, is it really worth it?...

if oyu want to stay secure in bt , the best thing you can do is be part of a limited user private tracker. and then use a program called peergaurdian. it may not be 100% secure but it keep sthe goverment, ceducation, ads, and a bunch of other ranges of ip's form even connecting to you at all. therefor hope hte private tracker doesnt release your ip

Posted by snitzle_iii on 07-20-2005 10:30 AM:

no bt program is safe proof. there has been updates in azureus like safepeer (voiding all known goverment ips) and the new update which i believe now just sends and recieves from a user. like what other people said bt is not safe because you can easily see all the ips in the swarm as well as people your dl/uploading from. private trackers are pretty cool if there decenly sized. i find mid or smaller sized private torrents give out better speeds just cause its easier for admins to ban ips for hit and run

Don't worry about it, you'll get an email notification if you're snapped. Precautions have already been mentioned (PeerGuardian etc). No matter what you're using (private FTP? Usenet? general P2P?) there is risk of getting snapped. Just take the precautions and hope you're never snapped

Posted by fatfecker on 07-21-2005 01:56 PM:

The best option is hack someones wireless and use their connection to download everything then they can be the fall guys.

PS: Safepeer, ha
You think maybe they don't know about this?
I would have thought the FBI/MPAA/etc. etc. could afford a normal ADSL line just to snag all the torrent users.

Posted by Airhead on 07-22-2005 07:06 PM:

torrent sux, took me 5 hours to download 2 x 183mb TV Episodes.

as far as hiding your ip, theres progys out there but nothing works, the minute you connect, if they got MPAA/Microsoft whoever trackers on the other end, the minute you connect your nailed.

this may ramble a little...been on the fermented apple juice. so sorry in advance.
as i understand it to use torrent you need to u/l and d/l at same time..
isn't u/l stuff illegal?
so if the ppl sourcing ips are u/l also aren't they committing an offence??
so if they are using illegal means to get ip addys then surely the info they get is also illegal and therefore inadmissable in a court of law?
just a thought....

peerguardian works sorta but as with anything changing ip addys is easy...lots of isp's out there.

if you are that worried just unplug internet and visit the cinema.
oh and my thought is torrent sucks ass.
buuuRRRRPPPPPPP!

u/loading

They(assholes) can up as much as they want, they are the force.......look at what happened on .... They took over a server or channel and offered shit to us to d/l ....so no they are not breaking the law as such. The turds can get our ip whichever way they think neccasary.in our national paper today,it has an articlre on the bastards setting a trap if need be to catch the good guys(me). If i find the article on their website ill post it...The Australian herald/sun

hey, doesn't that violate every isp's aup/tos(no need to look for wireless connections,a simple snmp scan of other nodes will do)
