Wii: Zack and Wiki

ok you fuckfaces. I was expecting to find myself commenting on Metroid on here at some point but fuck that... Have you seen Zack and Wiki? Shit on my face!

I'd heard it was getting good reviews but couldn't see the appeal from the description but after playing it all I can say is; not only are the graphics the closest thing to some whacky interactive anime I've ever seen, but the fucker made me laugh out loud at times. More importantly, it's the first game other than maybe Warioware that actually requires the Wii remote. It simply wouldn't work as a game concept without it.

The basic idea is something similar to the old Monkey Island/Leisure Suit Larry/Space Quest games in that, at it's core, it's a point-and-click adventure but just about every puzzle involves heavy use of the Wii remote - be it slowing a fall with an umbrella or sawing trees down - to even weirder shit that I wont go into because I don't want to give spoilers.

Instead of one large game like Monkey Island though, Zack and Wiki is devided into mini levels where the objective is to "rescue the treasure" - rescuing it from what is the fun part. Stage three for example has you trying to drug a village of tribesmen so you can nick their idol.

Awesome graphics which certainly show that the Wii ISN'T just a fucking Gamecube with a hat on, or "about as powerful as an XBox" it looks stunning.

If you have a Wii, give it a try. It might look like a kids game but if you like puzzles and funny anime (especially Studio Ghibli stuff) GET THIS GAME. If you're in the US, buy it. If you're in Europe, mod your Wii, patch the US version, play it and when it's out in PAL, BUY IT.

Right you cunts, I'm off to play some more... Seeya

Graphics - 8/10 (Excellent cartoon-style that made me laugh, often)
Audio - 7/10 (functional but jolly, didn't piss me off)
Gameplay - 8/10 (as addicive as chocolate-coated crack sweets)
Overall - 9/10 (fuck... me...)

Slippers: Mario Kart isn't till 2008, Mario Galaxy is out in a few weeks (rumours abound it's been ripped already though).

Neversoft: I loved this game so much I've actually bought it, £22 + P&P from play-asia. It's utterly fantastic.

Have you tried the "multiplayer mode"? THe other players can draw on screen to point out things to you using the other wiimotes.

Of course, in the end this just boils down to people drawing cocks over your character.

Still fun though!

NS, does it ask you to update your firmware when you run it?

Nope... I just twatted the ISO with RegioFrii and burnt the fucker. No firmware updates.

PRO TIP: Thus far all firmware-enabled games DON'T show the game logo on your Wii menu but a spinning disk instead, and it initiates the update when you click the disk so if you're playing an out-of-region game and only get a spinning disk in the menu and NOT the game logo... REMOVE THE FUCKING DISK (and maybe go back and try Brickblocking the ISO and re-burning)

Mario Galaxy is in stores in the US although it's not due for release and for some reason no group has ripped the fucker yet.

You can? Do you just grab the Wiimote and turn the fucker on? That's mint, I've been trying to help a four year old play the bastard - this will help

The ultimate Nintendo hero is taking the ultimate step... out into space.
Join Mario as he ushers in a new era of video games, defying gravity across all the planets in the galaxy. When some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy. Players run, jump and battle enemies as they explore the many planets. For Mario to succeed, gamers will press buttons, swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers and even use the Wii Remote to point at and drag things on-screen.

NOTE: So apparently, there are some new security from the Nintendo people?
looks like we got some new copy protections on this fucker. We had too much "juice" at the halloween parties so couldn't think well enough to bypass. Thought someone else who was more 'sober' could do it...Happy Halloween...Let's-a GO!

...so am guessing it doesn't work

It doesn't indeed. Looks like there's some extra protection on there. It comes up with an unauthorised hardware detected error message. Booting the original on a modded Wii though doesn't present the same message so it looks as though it's detecting the dvdr.

Make your way to the top and the boss moves towards the far-end of the level to protect the chest. Use the bat umbrella to go down the vine like a zip-line. Grab the umbrella off the zip line (you'll need it again). Open the chest, the monster hears and spins around and falls down a crevasse taking you with him...
... "flip" the umbrella and press two to make a tasty parachute

Don't ask for the next stage though, I aint started that one yet!

The state of play as I understand it:

1. The original works fine on ALL Wii's
2. The back detects the mod chip
3. D2CKey modchips (the new one with 30+ wires) works fine on the backup

The current theory seems to be that because the chips turn off when you insert an original, the copied game is detecting the "enabled" chip when it boots. The D2CKey avoids that because it's basically a replacement fucking chip for the DVD drive as opposed to something squirting code up the drives arse. Anyway, that's off-topic, move on

If we're lucky, somebody may work out how to patch-out that protection but personally I reckon we're all gonna need new chips

Hmmm.. I went to the top and he squished me!!! I'll have another shot tonight!

Patched for cyclowiz, wiikey is patched but they're taking their time releasing it.

I have zero idea if mine is a Wiikey or a wiikey clone! Any way I can find out without breaking it open? Would any patch work with a clone?

All the patches have been confirmed as fakes!

Staying off-topic... It would appear that all current modchips can cope with it after a firmware update. CycloWiz is done, Wiikey on the way, sounds like YAOSM is being looked into and I aint heard anything regarding Wiifree (but considering the chip/install is the same as YAOSM it hardly matters).

Now, talk about Zak and Wiki!

It doesn't matter if it's a clone. Mine's a clone and the last update worked without an issue, they cannot detect if it's an original or clone.

As to the person below that said all patches are fake, I meant the Wiikey firmware has been changed to work. They just need to release a new update cd.

All patches for the ISO are indeed fake.

Back on topic, I beat the first boss and the next two levels. The icekey one was piss easy, the next one with the boar chasing the little dude had me stumped for a little bit. Got it in the end though, I'll likely play some more tonight!

Incidentally my NTSC original arrived today, I loved the game enough to make an import purchase.

Do you have an ntsc machine or something? I didn't think Pal Wii's could play out of Territory games without being patched first?

As for Mario Galaxy (and this is my last post off subject) I'm not bothered if I get a hooky copy to work, Its the kind of game I'll go and buy anyway...

^You don't *have* to patch the ISOs to PAL, the modchips can do it (albeit slightly hit-and-miss) on the fly - including originals.

Personally though, I patch before I burn.
