EAT SHIT TOASTERS I'M GETTING MY MEN (Battlestar Galactica thread)

BSG Returns in January. In the meantime we'll get the 2 hour extended episode in November, called "Razor".

Razor will be about the Battlestar Pegasus, spanning a timeline from the attack on the colonies to around the time of the beginning of season 3 (i dunno why i'm avoiding spoilers but whatevs)

Season 4 of BSG, 22 episodes, will be its last, and the producers have said they shall give the series a proper ending.

Here's hoping that the new season will not have as much fluff as Season 3, i can't see, it being the last season, that they have too much room for filler but ya never know! Atleast i was in the minority that actually liked those episodes just fine (mostly because Baltar rules)

why is there shit all tv on during the summer? :/

A big highlight today at Comic-Con was the panel for SCI FI Channel's series Battlestar Galactica, which has gathered increasingly larger crowds at what has become a traditional Comic-Con appearance each year, as the critically acclaimed series has gained an ever larger and loyal fandom. This is where those fearing spoilers for Battlestar may want to be wary, as the panel started off with a preview of Season 3 which held some tantalizing hints of what's to come; including Colonel Tigh with a bandage over his eye, declaring, "I've got a war to fight!"; Apollo telling Adama that he feels that it's too risky for the two Battlestars to return to New Caprica, and that if they do, "humanity is over"; and Baltar saying to an unseen character, "I beg you to shoot me!"

During the discussion that followed, many other interesting tidbits were revealed, as Callis noted, "I actually end up on the Cylon baseship and try to work out what is the philosophy and the relationships on this kind of ship." Season 1 showed a Cylon ship filled with naked Number 8 models, and Callis also joked, "They like to walk around naked. Baltar discovers this, then tries to mimic it. He's not as good at it."

Explaining where the season would begin, Eick said, "It's four months later after the end of season 2. The occupation is in full swing, and Baltar is still president under an occupation. [There's an] insurgency and Galactica is off plotting. Some have taken sides, some are caught -- One in particular is missing a vital part of their anatomy." Based on the clips shown, it seemed like Tigh would be a pretty good bet for who Eick might have been referring to.

Asked about the decision to leap the series forward a year in the midst of last season's finale, Moore revealed "It's an idea I'd been thinking about for awhile. I thought about it for [Moore's previous series] Carnivale." Moore spoke of how the plotline with Galactica finding another livable planet came about, and the idea that Baltar would use this as a major campaign battle, saying it was a, "Legitimate thing to pin the whole election on." After that, they felt the storyline had to deal with the Cylons finding the humans on this planet, but said that if it was, "They're there a week and the Cylons show up, it feels like a jerk off. It didn't mean a thing." A year sounded better storywise, but wasn't something they'd actually want to portray on the series. "A year without a cylon?" Moore remarked, saying the series ultimately is about the conflict between the humans and the Cylons and, "Not going to be a planet based show."

Olmos was full of praise for the show, which he said he was wary of joining, until he saw the political and topical observations Moore was going for on the series, including the "reality and psychology after 9/11," and that the show dealt with, "truths we could now take a look at, and he [Moore] was willing to go into that." Olmos also declared that the series, which has hardly been lighthearted, would be darker than ever in season 3, saying, "The third season it's incredible. It's the darkest show I've ever been a part of." Olmos hinted at some of the analogies the audience can expect this season; "You'll get the psychology of say, suicide bombers, when you see the humans using that method to move forward and try to fight."

Lawless said that she is very excited about the relationship between Tigh and Starbuck this season, revealing, "They kind of start to hit it off, in a very weird way," and that she especially loved a scene between the two that she found, "so damned delicious." Olmos remarked, "The relationships this year are so deeply rooted in hurting each other. The most stunning part is Lee, my son, going on with Dualla and Starbuck; that really is out of page 6 in New York," referring to the New York Post gossip page. Lawless said that a lot of the season would deal with, "Stockholm syndrome. Relationships start to splinter and reform in very unlikely and very charged ways." As for Callis, he said that the relationship he's most intrigued by on the series currently is, "Sharon and Helo, because it's so extraordinary. She's a Cylon, but she's kind of caught aboard this ship. They've had their baby taken away from them, and they kind of have a tragic, amazing arc. The drastic circumstances they're put under. It's only themselves they vaguely trust."

A question was asked by an audience member about the portrayal of the religious characters from Gemenon last season, who seemed predominantly black, and whether it fed into the stereotype of "the magical negro" in fiction. Moore said it was a "fair question," and that while it was simply a result of unconnected casting choices, they did realize the inadvertent way it might appear while editing some of those episodes. Moore noted that they certainly weren't looking to make all the black human characters appear a uniform way on the series, which he said would be reflected, "When you see what Carl Lumbly does to Eddie in episode 7," revealing the Alias actor would be appearing on Battlestar, and having a confrontation with Olmos.

For his part, Douglas was somewhat of the class clown, cracking funny jokes and rarely answering a question seriously. Asked where this season would find father-to-be Chief Tyrol, Douglas answered, "Changing diapers. Fighting the Cylons, surprisingly... and fixing things. I tell you, it's just good writing!" He then joked that his love interest Cally was also a Cylon, saying, "I make sure that Cally is plugged in at all times."

As the panel ended, Olmos hinted at another dark plotline, in which the humans would release a pandemic upon the Cylons. However, he also revealed that the number of humans left alive on the series has dropped from somewhere around 49,000 people to 38,000, saying, "We're losing fast."

i watched the pilot episodes and the first 6 episodes of the first season, im just about to watch episode 7 but i thought id come here to share my excitment for BSG, its fucking brilliant, i love sg-1 and atlantis with all my heart, but this is wayyyyyyyyyy better. the special effects are pretty good for a tv show aswell !!!

Im just about to watch episode 10 of season 1, Im doinf to grab all of season 2 while i watch the last few episodes of the first season.

my god dam PC is to fucking old to play season 2 !!!!!! there all HD @ 1080i and my pc gives me about 1 frame per min, i have never downlaoded such a large amount to find i cant even play it each episode was about 4GB !!!

On a plus note (may be late coming in on this) there is a BSG spinoff in the works so might be a good watch

Guess which twat watched episode 2 first...doh! Saw there were 2 releases, but figured there were probably (the usual on the omicron releases) audio probs and had just been fixed...and in my hurry to watch the fucker just dl'ed and started watching...was only 35mins or so into it I realised I hadn't had the intro with the sexy drumming and the annoying 'what's coming up in this episode' that I always close my eyes for. In fact I was kinda impressed that they didn't soft-soap with all the 'how we got here' and just got on with the story...turns out they didn't

I don't know what the fuck this series is about anymore. After an 8 month drought it's back. I remember what's his name getting command of the Pegasus. And the other fuck becoming president or whatever. And the old guy almost croaking. But what s3 e1 and e2 are all about beats me.

Got through e1 and half of e2. and I think this series should be banned. It'S definitely anti-Semitic as it talks about suicide bombers killing others just because Ceylons are brutal occupiers who arrest and torture people at will and love the sport of killing innocents. Plus recruiting human scum to do their dirty work for them. This is describing the actions of the jew State today but it is wrong to put this theme in a very popular TV series. Just plain anti-Semitic and time to get the jew Lobby galvanized to put an end to this series at once. It’s becoming no more than anti-jew propaganda.

Putting the rest of the shit aside, there is not one series mentioned on this thread that I do not watch and enjoy. BSG is probably the best but SGA is good as well. Deadwood, Eureka, House and Prisoner Break also have their place. And I do like Supernatural.

Good to see there are still intelligent people around.



Forgot to mention the discontinued Firefly which someone on this thread already has given kudos to. Maybe the best of them all. Farscape, of the same ilk, is good but get's uninteresting very quickly.

Great episode(s), my favourite thing about BSG is watching the vipers and their missiles streaking through the sky and space, had it all. The xo's bitch wife dying and Adama losing the lip warmer were bonuses.

Where do they go from here? Resume the search for Earth, ducking and dodging the Cylons on their way hopefully.

I want to watch Starbuck, Number Six, Boomer and Anastasia at the receiving end of some seriously rough anal but otherwise, THIS SHOW DELIVERS!

I can't remember my Dicey (been a long time), but iirc the only circumstances for dispensation is to restore the rule of law when extraordinary events (i.e. occupation by an invading force) have caused cessation. Under all other circumstances only the appointed independant judicial system should determine where any bodies power ends and whether they are operating outside of it...and no President, Prime Minister, or any other governmental official can extend beyond those rights.

The suicide bombers bit was pretty related to the Middle Eastern situation but was incredibly well done.

The special courts bit and the loss of justice after wartime, well thats happened after every war, so to compare it to Gitmo is fair enough, but you can also compare it to summary executions in WW2 or WW1 etc etc.

I'm pretty sure Col. Ty's wife was one. I know, I know, she seemed to be human when getting Ty released...but that's this series. When she first made her appearence it was pretty certain that she was a Cylon. (And the fact the 5 models are never talked about must mean there's something quite different about them or that they're in conflict with the other 7 models.)

Anyone who remembers the original will remember that Gaius was leader of the Cylons (though there was always an uneasy relationship between him and the Cylons), maybe in the remake this virus is how Gaius assumes leadership? (By creating a cure and coercing them into following his will...possibly. Though maybe the new series won't necessarily ever have Gaius as Cylon leader.)

No episode last night. Bitches. I don't give a shit about holidays and festivities in the US! I want my BSG.

Wasn't overly impressed with E8, a plot that didn't take this series forward in any way. Brief overview plotline for E9 (airing Dec 1) from IMDB looks to be a backward facing one as well. Not shocked that the writers need to take stock (and deliver some off-the-shelf material) after the first 7 episodes this season rocketed forward at cheek-rippling pace.

Still the best series on TV...but these mid-season hiatus in storyline that occur in all US TV series*, even when the show is being aired, does bug the hell out of me



*That's what made 24 so good for me, there was just no break (at least in the original series), the plot just kept getting thicker and the characters even more screwed.

BSG will have its mid season break after the 15th of December, episode 11, and will return on january 25th. Yep, it'll air on sundays from then on out, a much better timeslot if you ask me!

In 40 mins it completely manages to turn Kats character around from someone who I was completely indifferent about and we had only seen as an aggressive character to someone I was sad to see go by the end of the episode. I also got a lot of the vibes from the very first ep of the series "33" and the whole being pushed to the extreme was done exceptionally well.

Kinda catching up a bit on this series and just watched 03 09. Superb. BSG has really matured and come of age. It has seriously gone up in my estimation and anyone who can't see the quality is a dickhead. Think I'll watch e09 again before going on to e10. It was that good.

The fear of the colonials is that Sharon will be regenerated and all her memories (i.e. colonial defence secrets) will be passed to the Cylons. Right?

A viper leaves a Cylon baseship, is permitted to land on Glactica, and 'a' Sharon is allowed to breeze off the craft and straight onto Galactica?

Gator back in the mix after a while of insignificance, Lucy having the heat turned down after we thought she was going to be the lead Cylon, Al (from QL) reappearing after a little sabbatical who-knows-where to take control again as he seemed to be doing before...

Fuck knows mate. Interesting storyline would be for the ship she saw to be real, but not Cyclon, and that they save her. Introducing a new/different species could be difficult, but maybe it could be the descendants of the convoy to Earth, left by their forefathers.

There's only one thing you can be sure of: she'll be back!

Better episode. (Still want some Cylons though. Next episode, from the teaser, is going to be more courtroom drama bollocks!)

Found it very satisfying because of Baltar's fate. Now that's justice.

I have to confess, my myself and the GF felt let down by the final episode... It seemed to meander along for 40 minutes then suddenly it kicked-in a cheesy rock track and went "Oh yeah, here is the season-end cliffhanger" and proceeded to show us Starbuck and some Cylons - nice idea but they fucked the build-up.

I'll still watch season 4 with my fingers up my arse though

A miserable end to a miserable series, crossing my fingers for season 4

I've found that if you watch it in blasts of 4 or 5 episodes back to back even the laggy episodes are great. Started watching again from S01 with my housemates...don't we'll take until Jan though.

I kind of lost the faith half way through this series, been storing em up to watch back to back. Doesn't sound too promising as yet.

Razor will be about the Battlestar Pegasus, spanning a timeline from the attack on the colonies to around the time of the beginning of season 3 (i dunno why i'm avoiding spoilers but whatevs)

Season 4 of BSG, 22 episodes, will be its last, and the producers have said they shall give the series a proper ending.

Here's hoping that the new season will not have as much fluff as Season 3, i can't see, it being the last season, that they have too much room for filler but ya never know! Atleast i was in the minority that actually liked those episodes just fine (mostly because Baltar rules)

Agreed Dwaggs... I can't really fault BSG. There's some "filler" eps (especially in season 3) but they're still top notch TV.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!

Thankfully there's another half to this season and it's not ending just yet (the second part of season 4, the last season, airs in 2009! Cocksusckers )... I'm not sure who I'm more annoyed at, the writers or me guessing what Earth was going to be like ages ago and dismissing it as a "If they write that, I'll bomb the studio" moment.

They were only ever going to arrive before or after civilisation on this planet, BSG doesn't do happy endings

The pace of this final season has been all over the fucking place though. Several episodes happen with little or no plot development then about 23 things happen in one episode. Who do we blame; the writers strike, budgets or the Cylons?

Personally I loved the ending. Yes, I had a feeling it was going to end like it did (although they threw me off that theory with the "apocalypse earth" episode mid-season). I can't fault the ending though, I loved every second of it and I'm gonna miss it - it's certainly the most forward-thinking Sci Fi that I've ever seen and hopefully more "gritty" scifi will follow...

... I know there's the Caprica spin-off coming and I think there's another mini-series from the Cylon perspective in the autumn, I think.

The finale was good, but compared to the mini-series intro it felt cheap, it's like the producers had ran out of ideas.
I like the characters of Baltar and no.6 but the scenes with their 'angels' were pretty bad, maybe I was expecting too much.

I still want more so I'm hoping for a spin off with adama and the one-eyed guy, the episode with them two kicking ass was quality. They should do a prequel series like in the bar they were getting hammered in, they could bring back some other characters too like the bird who shot herself in the head.

I haven't read any of your comments and will start watching from where I left off starting this Friday....
