People who dont know MovieGod read this

Ok everyone listen up
MovieGod is a professional movie critic in Hawaii, he posts in a paper i believe and also for the radio. He see's the movies but he cannot duplicate the works or he will lose his job and we do not want that. He also cannot always post his review of movies once he sees it he has to wait for his boss to give him the go ahead so everyone stop asking him how he gets to see this damn movies. annd moviegod has the greatest job...PERIOD.

Posted by darkslide on 10-02-2002 08:52 PM:

projectionist classes? LOL you go to a theatre... and ask them for a job.. if they have a projectionist spot open... then you get hired and they'll teach you

Obviously strong writing skills is a plus

Posted by CWS on 10-02-2002 10:24 PM:

what a comedic job it must be!
everyone thinks you just sit watching movies and eating popcorn.

in reality i suppose it is pretty hard to remain neutral and do a fair evaluation that is appreciated by the mainstream public. i would also suppose it takes a lot of restraint when a movie comes about that is pure shit but you know the general public is gonna buy the hype and it will become a box office smash.

yeah i envy the movie watchin part of your job,it must be kinda fun and keeps you ontopic with that which most peeps consider current events. it is all that other work of forming your thoughts to words and pleasing everyone that i would not be very good at. btw got any jobs there where all i have to do is WATCH the movie...eat popcorn.... i tend to be good at that!

have fun,
renee

Posted by XTASY-Jones on 10-06-2002 07:33 AM:

Hell I'd love to watch movies for damn living.

Posted by hoozdapimp on 10-06-2002 10:40 AM:

i respect moviegod's job, but as far as a critic, i hate to say i have disagreed with over 80% of his reviews....but at least i know what movies to see...if he hated it, ill probably like it and vice versa...

*awating the flames*

Posted by darkslide on 10-06-2002 03:16 PM:

i disagree with roger ebert a lot.... but for moviegod... it's usually around 50/50

Your perceptions of a projectionist's job are quite flawed, watching movies is only done when you screen them after build up, most of your time is accounted for idly passing time between threading, build ups, break downs etc.

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

build ups and break down only occur on thursday, threading takes about 3 mintutes per projector. WTF do you think I do when I'm not threading? watching movies of course. And for whoever asked if it get boring, well, after your up there for awhile you can learn to time your rotation so you only hit the good parts of movies

Posted by lorddusty on 10-12-2002 02:32 AM:

I dont think you understood my comment, which was that a projectionists job is not to watch movies. You may choose do this in the "idle time" I described earlier, but this is not your job. I am well aware of the time it takes to thread a projector and the times at which break downs and builds up are done, and i conceed that a large portion of time could be spent watching movies between theses tasks... However, for me, it does get boring endlessly watching even the "good parts" of movies.

is a projectionist the guy who controls the projector up in that room? You said you get paid to watch movies and was wondering is that in your job description or is that because you control the projector and can watch the movie when you want.

I notcied in this thread that you want to start writing reviews on movies, and yet you dont know what a projectionist is? ... well yes, to answer your question seeing that you've obviouslly not read any of the other posts in this thread, a projectionist starts movies, and no it is not in a projectionists job to watch movies except for screenings/walk throughs.
