DS Lite SuperCard.... or something

A releative of mine is getting a Nintendo DS Lits for xmas with a few games. Guys atmy place of work are always on about these 3rd party cards they use to play cracked games and I thought it would be a good idea to pick him up one of these plus download a bucket load of games for him.

This is where I need help! Having never owned a DS I have no idea what kit I need to get this kinda thing working. I need some advice on what cards/hardware to get.

Picture a shop bought DS, fresh out of the box, I need to get to a stage of being able to play the unit with dowloaded games.

I'm hearing good things about the SuperCard Lite. If I was to pick one of these up plus a 2Gig SD card would I be able to hand over a ready to roll DS to my releative?

If someone could give me a breakdown of the hardware I need (extra cards, prefered 'SuperCard' like hardware etc etc), I would be most appreciative.

Also, should I be concerned with Firmware or Hardware versions of the DS (similar to being only able to run cracked PSP games on units of a certain age and version)?

Living in the UK I would also need a UK based supplier, or a trusted & cheap worldwide shipper - any ideas?

I'm our resident self-appointed expert on this subject (honest!).

The faggots above are right for a change. I personally have a Supercard Lite (slot 2) with a Max Media Launcher (slot 1) because I was an early adopter. More to the point, I keep that setup because you need a slot 2 cart if you want to play GBA roms on your DS.

If it's ONLY DS games you care about though, a no-frills slot 1 card is right up your street.

The R4DS and M3Simple are IDENTICAL. With a few tricks they can even use the same firmware. The Supercard DSOne is done by a different manufacturer and tends to be faster because it doesn't have the R4 and M3s "flashy" interface - it's also got 100% compatability for the real-time-save option (you can save any game at any point).

I believe most of the manufacturers are also moving to SDHC, which is high capacity SD cards. I *believe* the reader is the same and this only requires a firmware update but don't quote me on that.

Finally, there's the bees knees which is the Acekard, which is slot 1 only but supports SDHC cards AND has a USB connector and built-in flashmem. It's also fully open source but quite expensive.

So in summary?

R4DS/M3Simple if you want cheap and functional.
Supercard DSOne if you want a few more functions, better build quality and better/faster software.
Acekard if you want to fire lasers out of your DS and reverse time. Tis about twice the price of an R4 though.

There's assloads of other flashcarts out there but the three above are the main players and if any other company may leave you hanging for firmware updates to get some of the more recent (copy protected) roms running.

Well, I've ordered a M3DS Real (Rumble Bundle) with 1Gb microSD.

Hopefully nice and simple.

I just hope the fucking thing turns up before xmas.

Thanks all!

i ordered an r4 from this site and got it in 12 days.
I went for the 2gb card but the exchange rate for the r4 + 1gb card is around £34 plus its free delivery worldwide.
A blimmin bargain mateys

Yeah I know, not the most obvious of moves on my part

From what I have read on the web, and what our resident self-appointed expert had to say, they both seem exactly the same. The thing is not for me and I only needed the basic package with no real thoughts of future updates etc, plus its the only type I could find in stock :P

the only diff is r4 firmware is updated more than m3

not a major biggie

And not that it matters anymore, but I have an m3 simply with a 2gb microSD card and it's pretty great.

Posted by Linnets on 12-23-2007 11:04 AM:

I also got a M3DS Simply with a couple of 2 gig cards and its fine. But that bundle that the OP bought included a M3DS REAL. I dunno if thats the same thing. I remember looking at a G4or6 REAL I think, which was supposed to be the mutts nuts. Supposed to support single card multiplay, all current protection etc. etc. but didn't seem to live up to the hype on release. So maybe this is the M3 version of that card?

Posted by cobalt on 01-04-2008 12:18 AM:

Well it arrived, on the 28th actually, but only now had a chance to collect it.

I've got a M3 Card, 1Gb MicroSD, a USB-MicroSD card reader, a converter to change microSD into normal SD and also the rumble pack.

I've copied a bunch of .nds files directly into the root of the MicroSD and placed it inside the M3 Card - is that all I have to do?

I'm sending the gift on via the post now, and want to make it as simple as possible on the other end. Does the M3 now just plug and play?

Posted by lmao2k on 01-04-2008 01:48 AM:

You need to copy the m3 real system files to the microsd card and then put the .nds files inside the NDS directory on the microsd. After that its just plug and play

Posted by cobalt on 01-04-2008 02:06 AM:

Ok, I have grabbed the software from here (System V2.8(Europe/USA)) as I didnt get a CD in the pack.

I've extracted the zip file to the root of the card so I have a single folder called SYSTEM. Inside that, theres a ton of small files and 3 sub folders FONT, skin1 and skin2.

I've made a new folder on the root called NDS, which now contain the .nds files

Does this sound about right, will a straight copy of the system files be ok or is an 'install' required

edit:
I'm also grabbing the font files and dumping them inside the FONT folder for max compatability.

Yup thats right. Should be plain sailing from there

Posted by Robert Jones on 01-04-2008 06:50 PM:

will the SuperCard DS work with a DS Lite?

::EDIT::

Yes it will work i've just noticed.

Also can you access more than one DS game from the card at the same time? i mean can you put a few games onto the card and just select which one you want to play?

Posted by Darlowad on 01-04-2008 08:03 PM:

yes as many games as capacity allows and then u select your rom from the game menu.

well after reading around a bit I also ordered an R4 for my nephews DS Lite. I ended up ordering from mod-chip.com as I heard they are a bit more expensive but very reliable, I didn't bother getting the SD Micro card from there as it was £20 for a 2gb, so I ordered a new from ebay for £10 instead. Sweet!

ItouchDS anyone tried one of these?
Is the SuperCard DSONE V3 a better card

Posted by Neversoft on 07-11-2008 03:34 AM:

They're all pretty much the same shit nowadays... No patching for roms, support SDHC, flashy GUIs and auto DLDI patching for homebrew.

I've recently switched from a Supercard Lite (slot 2) to an M3 Real (slot 1) simply for convenience and the larger capacity cards.

From reviews it sounds like the Supercard DSOne has slightly better compatability (cos the iTouchDS failed on a couple) but nothing dramatic. However, the iTouchDS GUI is apparently a work of arse

Here's some reviews of pretty much every flashcart out there: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showforum=99

it picks up the game if i make a new folder nds

and put it into that folder.

but wont play.

I have been trying all afternoon. to no avail.

anyone with knowledge in this field aka NS

Do I need to go the firmware? as I havent touched them yet?
