Checked the sample and so far all so good from what i can see. Crisp image and a nice and high data rate keeps it that way.

Posted by vip3r on 10-21-2004 02:25 AM:

Would be nice if it actually had a menu, and wasn't another crappy .br NTSC rental like day after tomorrow. Quality looks fine i guess, but it does look funky to me. I'll just wait for a R1/2 release before i burn or watch this movie again.

I agree. Rental DVD is nice and all, but you know we're going to see a *RETAIL* soon enough, so I'll hold off.
Quality of this is what you'd expect, with a nice high bitrate.

Here's hoping the retail has nice menus and extras that can be downsampled while keeping the main movie at a decent rate.

I couldn't agree more. Nice release but i'm gonna wait for the R1 retail with atleast a menu and possibley some extras

Posted by Redemption198 on 10-21-2004 11:25 AM:

Im not quite seeing this logic here, Rental DVD's are as good quality wise as a retail ones, the only difference is the menus and the lack of extras.

Considering the majority of people seem to want Untouched or High bitrate movie and no extras, whats so bad about this, and why nuke a perfectly good release, when its here right now, and a proper might not be that soon..

I think this is a great release, and if i want a fancy menu, ill put one on myself, and this will do me until i buy it.

9/9/9

Posted by BHX on 10-21-2004 01:23 PM:

I'm in two minds about this release, on one hand Redemption1980 is right it is basically what we all want as regards video/audio quality. But at the same time it is always nice to have those fancy nice menus as it just adds a nice feel to it

But apart from all that the review from me is: 9/9/7 with a /5 if we were ever able to review the menu hehe.

There are extras on this release. If anybody actually has this, then they would have noticed the Inside Look option on the Main Menu which has previews for upcoming Movies/DVD's Alien vs Predator, Elektra and the TV Series 24. I'll be amazed if the next release (if there is one), includes any other extras and then manages to keep a decent bit rate on the movie. Its a almost a 2 hour action flick, so I guess this is as good as it gets.

Anyways, excellent video. Audio is nice and loud. The trailers did not do the movie justice. 9/10/9

Posted by pedantics on 10-21-2004 04:33 PM:

who gives a crap about menus - if there's no extras they're just useless topping. I'd rather get a movie-only release with video that's smooth like ice cream. this is a dope release.

9/10/7.5

Posted by d0wnz on 10-21-2004 04:36 PM:

menu is ugly but video and audio are pretty nice.

Posted by Redemption198 on 10-22-2004 12:24 AM:

Trailers aren't extras, VHS had loads of them.

Rental DVD reminds me of VHS.

Agreed. Scream does PAL mostly. This is NOT the real Retail R1. Its a Rental full version just like The Day after Tomorrow. If u feel u need it be my guest. I can wait. I have a flawless Telecine of this one already.

Hmmm...

As nice as it is, it should probably be nuked since .nfo says it is RETAIL DVD, and it is not .......

Posted by BHX on 10-23-2004 12:19 AM:

It basically tells you that it is a rental retail though:

quote:

Menu.........: English Rental Menu

And are rental movies not retails but for "rent" from video stores, with some differences - eg menu/extras/etc? And it says it is sourced from a retail not that it is a retail R1/R2 etc etc. No flamin' please guys 'n' girls. Too pissed to make a proper argument with you.

uh huh menus are scene standard?

Posted by xenopod on 10-23-2004 10:38 AM:

quality

The release is about retail quality . the film is retail quality and to say every group that will release the retail when available will strip all extra's ect .. so stop moaning and stop the stupid nukes.

THE FILM IS AS GOOD AS YOU WILL GET IT

I can live without a menu any day when:

"Video........: 6 Pass 6024 Average"

This is a keeper.

Yes, it is a gorgeous picture......excellent work on the rip SCREAM...still should have been labeled as Rental ...

Posted by CiC on 10-24-2004 09:04 PM:

It's the first actual DVD-Rip I got (Wooohooo for me ) And it looks great. Although I love extra features, I prefer a best quality movie above all. I am new to this so I understant Rental's have no bonusses and menus period? Oh well, I am just already happy I have this great quality rip

Thank you SCREAM, you took my virginity!

I agree with you i downloaded it, the menu sux but nobody wants to watch the menu anyway so deal with it, the quality is unbeatable and the best torrent dled yet to date.

It's taken me a while but I finally found time to sit down and watch this dvdr.

Not sure why it wass nuked but in my opinion this release is excellent.

Sure it may not have a great menu but it does have a menu that works unlike several other releases in recent times.

Video quality is simply great. No way I am going to bother with any other release.

Sound is perfect.

Movie, well it wasn't too bad (better than I expected from Will Smith)

overall 10/10/6.5

i agree with you.. i dont care about menus.. all i care about is the video and audio.. i rather have no menu but higher bitrate/no encoding.. then the menu in its entirety at the cost of having to encode for lower bitrate.. if i wanted the menu or extras.. id purchase the real thing..

esp those of us who watch these on big 40" and bigger 16:9 HDTVs where quality is priority and compression is easily noticed.. I wouldnt care (more so to favor it) if groups started just doing movie only until dvd9 media are cheaper.. but i guess that would be against rls rules..

now something that maybe someone can enlighten me on.. why are people so concerned about the menu? a lot of times dvd players have problems with them and patches need to be made, it can take up significant space that can be used to retain better quality when encoded, and lastly its a menu?

Posted by eugenile on 11-22-2004 06:32 AM:

just finished watching this rls..

first off the equipment.. the tv is a 56" DLP Widescreen HDTV.. Denon 6.1 DTS/Dolby EX reciever.. and cheap no name dvd player.. video connected via component.. audio via optical..

even though the video is said to be re-encoded.. the quality is superb.. i wouldnt have even questioned it if I watched it not knowing it was reencoded..

audio was great.. untouched so no problem..

movie was pretty good imo.
