v:9
a:9
m:8

only viewed the sample but its enuf to know that this is prolly the best version out, its either this or a DVDSCR and this is more than enuf, also looks great once its on a dvdr and family enjoyed this movie, great work ASTEROiDS and keep the top releases coming

8/8/?

Overall apretty good release. Video is a little grainy to me, but the audio is okay and in synch. I've only skimmed through parts of this release though, so there could be things I've missed. BTW, here's a screenshot showing a "cigarette burn" that TCs usually have. So I believe this one is a TC.

TC or TS, i couldnt give a steamy shite!

id just say its a great release whatever it is, and because its from a russian source it doesnt matter if its a ts coz russian releases dont have twats and ushers walking past the cam and up the isles every half an hour lol!

from sample:

v 9 (mint quality, im so pissed off coz its the day after i got the silver of fuck's release too)

a 8 (sounds fine, but judging by a couple of other releases by nbp/asteriods there might be a couple of hissy moments)

m ? (dunno, will get this before i watch)

thanks asteriods, just get us revolver an i'll be pretty chuffed

encoding software is the equivalent of The 404 going on a diet and walking thru the door. takes longer and sometimes more skill, but ultimately worth it.

More sound problems that u may notice at first but definitely NOT up to par. See SVCD post for more details.

In a NUTSHELL though:

NUKED: Serenity.TC.XviD-ASTEROiDS scratchy.low.volume.distorted.audio.multiple.times.throughout.film.CD2.
asteroids-serenity2.part07-part09.rar that speech by Captain is just One of the many instances of the horrible hissing throught CD2. And that extremley low distorted voice that is Very Very Incorrect..

Near DVD quality pic a tad overcropped big deal. Audio is all kind of fuxored however. Take a close listen to Nathan Fillions Character. Sound like he's underwater and what's with the scratching..Movie !@#$% ROX!!

Video: 8.5- tad dirty in dark areas. Bright scenes could pass for DVD. Vibrant and Colorful.

Audio: 6- Uggh that is just NOT Captain Malcolm voice dunno what was recoreded with but uggh..

Movie: 9- One of the best Sci-Fi in recent yrs.

by sample:

kinda reminds me of the Fantastic Four TC, nice pic, bit hollow sound.

V-9 - nice
A-7.5 - i can definetly live with it
M-8.5 - really good sci-fi comedy. i like

Is it just me or is this the same as nbp?

Looks clear to me that nbp & ASTEROiDS are from the exact same source.

Between 37:30 and 38:00 there are two large film spots that crop up in exactly the same places, plus there's a crucial word that gets chopped off in both. The sound is similar... to my eye the picture is sharper in the ASTEROiDS version, but that may just be XVID vs. MPEG2.

Indeed. It's not much fun to listen to the strange voices. If you pitch the audio by one semitone the voices are ok again. I've done this with cd1 but because of the abr header I ended up with several minutes missing, the rest was in sync though.
At the moment I'm trying again, demuxed audio with virtualdubmod > converted the mp3 to mp3 with BeSweet but now to cbr 256kbs > edit the audio with CoolEdit, transform stretch (preserve tempo, transpose#1)

My comp takes ages but this should do the trick. Maybe there is an easier way but I'm just too noob with editing.

Wow, if u do manage to re-encode that Serenity release i would be interested in hearing it. Feel free but no obligation to PM me. I'm NOT a noob as u can cleary see.
I must admit at second watch through release sounds easier to understand...anyhow again props on the release and to those that noticed the audio issue thanx for your responses...l8r

I must have gotten a different file under the asteroids name.

video: 5. Way too bright. blacks are a dark shade of grey.

audio: 5

and the movie is over rated: 7

But like I said I suspect i got a different file as everyone seems to think the quality of this release is good.

Posted by White Rabbit on 10-26-2005 01:30 PM:

i couldnt tell if the voices were off or not because i havent watched the film yet and i dont know any of the actors that well.

i could tell from the universal logo at the start that it was off though, did anyone here used to own a cassette walkman years ago? did you ever remember how the music slowed down to nothing when the battery was running out coz it sounds like that lol!

Video - 8
I've seen better TCs, but this is still awesome. Video could be a bit sharper, but it's definately clear and somewhat crisp. Been wanting to see this, so I'm glad SOMEBODY got a 8 quality in my book.

Audio - 8
Not quite excellent, but sounds great enough on my speakers and the bass kicks in at the right moments and the right levels.
*Edit* - I've noticed there's some static throughout the movie. No sync issues for me, however.

Movie - 8
Ok, awesome movie. I give it an 8, but that's still at least 4 points better than most of the movies to come out this year. Definately one I'll be watching again.

*Authoring note* I don't know if anyone else was viewing this on a standalone. It was a bitch for me to re-encode, though. If anyone was having trouble with converting the last 8 or so minutes into an mpeg stream, the solution I used was splitting the remaining footage from the second half, then merging it with the resulting output of the first half and second half minus the remaining footage.

Sorry, I know this isn't an authoring discussion forum, but I know that many people like to review a release once it's been watched on an actual TV/entertainment system, rather than their computer, so I figured the info might help some people. If I'm out of order for that, please let me know.

V - 7 I'm having a hard time rating fairly since upgrading to 1088i HDTV. On my TV I'd rate the pic as a 5, but I am sure it is better than that. It certainly was better than many others that I have watched.

A - 5 [i]Just not very good. What can one expect, though? Slightly out of sync. Lacking in presence. A good job was done on quieting the slap-back effect, but it was still present in scenes where there was several levels of overlaying audio from the source.

M - 6 [i]I agree with the previous reviewer. A lot of hype surrounding this thing. It was good, but nothing special. I never watched the tv show, so maybe a lot of fans hold the movie more dear than I do.
