Wii now has USB ISO loader

Finally -- more and more like my old xbox gen 1 everyday. Loading times are just insane.

Up to V1.1 now I think

I love nerds

At least there are some good games to come this year ie Excitebots, Punch Out.

can you 'obtain' an iso, put it on the usb stick then boot it on the wii?

can you get the 'homebrew' channel on a wii without opening it up for modding?

sorry i been out the console modding scene for two long

This means that I can play iso images of games I legally own, without having to burn them onto a disc?

Has anybody tried it yet? Is there a possibility to damage the console?

Can I play movies with it using the wii?

Posted by Bit_Confused on 04-02-2009 01:44 PM:

"YES" to all of the above.

I have a 80 gigger with about 27 games on it already. ( using the WB File system)

I also left a 20G partition for movies and such.

Wii lives

Provided you have Zelda Twilight Princess (or rent it), a memory card and haven't updated recently.

Yeah, my Wii is hard modded but I've been tinkering over the last few days. I've not tried the ISO loader yet but the Wii is ready I just need time...

- On a System Menu 4.0 with all trucha bugs patched back in.
- cIOS rev9 installed
- All other "extra" IOS that specific games need are manually installed
- ISO Loader installed on the HBC

I just need to format my external drive to test it but it's full of porn at the moment

I'm pretty familiar with the Wii malarky as well so as long as your question isn't stupid and can be Googled in a nanosecond, ask away!

Hopefully they next revision of the loader will also support Ocarina codes (cos I don't think it does at the moment)

Cheating Cunt .

just shrink your "porn" partition and add a new blank fat32 10 or so in the new free space if you dont wanna lose anything.

The loader formats it for you if you dont wanna do it on PC.
You can dump right from the Wii to USB if you have the disc.
Or pull it on to the PC and it strips the main.dol. The Wii just needs an apploader to run the game.
Much like shrinking, most games are 30%-50% of the DVD size. Some stay at around 3.7gigs. I have 32 Games now on a 60Gb Partition. Some as small as half a Gig.

Already in the process of making individual channels for each game. To avoid launching a loader each time.

Hopefully looking something like ...

Now if only I can get my Rockband 1 instruments to work on Rockband 2.

/me tips his hat to bit_confused about WBFS.

Posted by Bit_Confused on 04-03-2009 06:56 AM:

anytime Lolobo.

OSH -- softmii.org -- for custom themes

wadder.net -- for channels

Oh and be careful with themes and health screens......even a wrongly compressed image can brick the Wii.

The weather is too nice today to research all this now but in a nutshell, my bird has a Wii but no PC. Can I learn and do all this shit round mine and eventually go round with a flash drive and start playing? What are the chances of fucking up the console?

Only if you're quick... If the Wii is on system menu 4.0 you're fucked for the time being cos Ninty blocked all of the current exploits but 3.4 and below can be regressed to 3.2 then bumped back up to a "modified" 4.0 system menu

So erm, buy it from Argos cos you can take the fucker back if it's 4.0 (although a 4.0 console can still be hard modded to run disks but you're SOL for homebrew and therefore the USB loader etc)

Got mine running a wasp chip on 3.2E and the usb loader works like a charm.

It also bypasses any unwanted system updates happy days. Will just have to make sure the wife goes nowhere near the discs

ps: Zack and Wiki rocks!!!

Anyone had experience of a clip mod? Thinking of dropping £40 on it so save the wait for the next hack...

Posted by antihero on 04-09-2009 09:22 AM:

aye, running the wasp chip on a clip. Piece of piss to install and had zero problems with it. New kid on the block seems to be the flat mods though...just plug the drives cable into it and voila...

Very nice, and £36 too... think that will be my next purchase

Posted by antihero on 04-14-2009 12:13 AM:

ok, so now have 320gb drive hooked up to the wii running games effortlessly!

The drive was being used on my vista pc and was formatted as NTFS....what a pain in the arse to get it back to fat32!! Ended up using some freeware to format it (and have a 320gb fat32 drive that supports files over 4gb!!!)

Also using WBFS Manager to ship the game iso's straight over to the drive without having to burn em first. Easy-peasy!!!

Fitted the Wasabi DX and tried it out on MadWorld and Rayman...TV Party - both work flawlessly on 4.0E.
