Sennheiser HD600

I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD 460's and they sound good, a bit warmer of a sound than I actually like though. I've seriously been thinking of getting another pair of headphones and I've just about narrowed it down to 3 pairs and the price ranges a lot, lol.

Sennheiser HD 600 which cost $300 #1 on my list

audio-technica ATH-A700 My buddy has this pair and they sound great.

SENNHEISER HD280SILVER These headphones are getting fantastic reviews. Price wise I'm sure there worth it.

Im using the RS130 (wireless) and I love em. Also have a pair of the ~50 dollar earbuds for my Zen, also kick ass.

Deleted and banned.

The mod queue only shows the post, not the signature so the odd one slips through.

I've got the CX400's. I like em, they're decent, but I used to use Shure E2C's that were mindboggingly good...'cept when I managed to bust my 2nd pair within a year I thought it was time to try something else.

I'm content on getting the HD 600's. For the price I'm sure they'll be worth it. They look awesome and the reviews are great on em as well.

I have a pair of PMX 70 Sennheiser's and they sound fantastic with my mp3 player, and I won't part with em at all, I only paid $50 for those.

There the green neckband headphones, I use em all the time when I workout and they don't budge from my head, there awesome headphones.

Is it me or is $50 cheap for a pair of headphones? I know some people who were shocked when I told them I spent $50 on a pair of earbuds, I think $50 is dirt digity for a pair of headphones.

I have the HD485's but find the bass is lacking just a tiny bit due to the fact that they're open back headphones. That minor niggle aside, they're still an awesome pair of headphones (but then I did progress to those from a pair of shit $10 headphones so anything would have sounded better).

I found em a bit cheaper, if anyone else is interested in these bad mother fuckers.

http://www.dakmart.com/product_info...roducts_id=4509

::EDIT:: That site might be a bit shady, If I get these I will get them from amazon for about $240-$250

I've been reading up on the AD700 and those reviews are booming for that pair of headphones, and no need for a Headphone amp with those, Now with the HD600's it's wise to have a headphone amp, I would have to buy that separately.

I'm sooooo torn about what to do

After reading 100's of reviews, I think I've changed my mind for a #1 pick.

These should be bad ass.

Surely you can get them cheaper somewhere?
The HD600 is being sold in Germany for around $230 incl. tax.

I've got a HD595 myself and owned another Sennheiser before that. So I am a bit biased but I'd always go with Sennheiser again.

I currently have a pair of the Sennheiser PMX70's which are a sport pair of ear buds and they sound great.

I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD465's and they are way to warm. They do sound rather decent.

A lot of reviewers compare the AKG K 701's to the HD650. The 701's are fucking pimp so these are my pick. I've decided to get these.

::EDIT::
Forgot how bad ass Ride the Lightning is.

Here's a fantastic review of the K 701's

Has anyone on here used the Grado SR 225's? or any Grado's for that matter?

I've been reading up on these and people say they are awesome for rock and most types of music without the use of a headphone amp, and are a bit cheaper. Any ideas?

The main reason I haven't been looking into the grado's is because of the design, I think there ugly as fuck, and look very uncomfortable.

I'm ordering tomorrow.

Well I pretty much made up my mind, It's for sure the AKG K 701 Cans. I'm gonna get an amp soon.

Since they do require more power but aren't nearly as hard to power as the HD6-- series I'm going to get the HeadRoom Total BitHead for $159

In the meantime for Xmas my bro is going to buy me the FiiO's E5 which is only $24 I primarily want it for my mp3 player and on head-fi a lot of people say it's worth the small price. Soooooo.

No more contemplating about which cans to get, because I've ordered the AKG's.

Still waiting on the headphones, Should be here Monday.

I didn't know this but Harmon/Kardon and AKG are the same company. Interesting, I always rave about Harmon/Kardon receivers cause of the sound they put out but could never afford to put my money where my mouth is, lol.

Just got the Cans in the mail, and I can sum up the quality of the AKG K 701's in one word. Amazing.

There worth EVERY penny I paid at $235 with shipping.

I've got Alessandro MS2i (~grado sr325), but are switching to beyer 880 or 990 now.

Also considered the 701s, but it seems they are better for classical as opposed to metal music, and requires an amp. They do have killer looks though.

From what I've read the Beyers 880 and the 990's have the same driver but the bass is a lot better with the 990's and therefor better with Rock/metal. Did you by chance just buy the Beyers 990 off of amazon? I saw em new for $200 last night and there no longer there, lol.

I stayed away from the Grado's because they color the sound, and I wasn't looking for that at all, and I hear there not that comfortable. I was looking for a reference headphone.

I'm listening to Pink Floyd with the AKG's and they sound amazing, literally amazing. I've tried Metallica which sounds pretty damn good, In Flames sounded Great as well as with Within Temptation.

Where these headphones do shine is with Pink Floyd, Diana Krall, BB King, and classical and a lot of celtic music.

I'm pleased with these for Rock/Metal as they do sound great.

I'm NOT using a headphone amp, and they require a bit of a boost I'll say which my speakers have some amplification which is what I'm plugging into.

On my mp3 player these headphones sound decent, but not great by any means.

The comfort level isn't nearly as high as I would like, but there brand new and will take some time to break in.

I just started burning these headphones in, I've read on numerous sites and many reviewers that these headphones require 300+ hours of burn in time.

the grado 1000's are the best headphones made, they shold be used with a headphone amp to get optimum sound http://hcmaudio.com/comp.asp?compID=1043 review http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2074

All Grado's look uncomfortable as fuck though. I ain't knocking the Grado's at all, I still might buy either a pair of Grado's sr80 or the senn HD280's.

Posted by HoldDaSalad on 12-16-2008 05:25 AM:

I will say this though, If your listening to mp3's don't waste your time with anything under 192kbs because that's the bare minimum you can go, 128kbs sounds like pure shit. 192 is pushing it. I don't think I'll download anything under 320kbs anymore.

I'd really say Lossless is the way to go, I was listening to The Heart of Everything by Within Temptation and it sounded like pure garbage but it was encoded at 160kbs and it shows.

Any flaws in the music you'll hear it with the better cans, Kind of a downside with the better hardware I guess. Well It just forces you to get the best quality possible.

Sar let me know how those Beyers do ya, I'm curious. Sar the K 701's are made of pure sexiness, You have no idea. There huge but there great cans.

Posted by sar on 12-18-2008 03:13 PM:

At the moment of ordering, I got cold feet, and wanted to get the K701s instead. Then I researched some more - but it's pointless. Around 50% say the beyers suck and akgs rule, and the other 50% say the opposite.

In the end I got the 880s as they were the cheapest (ordering from germany).

Still waiting for delivery - sold my Alessandros. They really are uncomfortable - Ï don't get why the comfort thing isn't explored more by the manufacturers, its my #2 concern after SQ.

It's a tough choice it really is. It took me well over a month of deciding which cans I actually wanted. My short list from the first post in this thread has changed dramatically since I started ordering. I still may get the HD280's as a second pair, but I'm super pleased with my choice for the AKG's and I got them for $235 after shipping.

at first the comfort level wasn't that great on the AKG's, but they've gotten a lot better after a couple days of use. and as for sound quality there literally amazing. They do lack the punchy bass, The lows kind of roll off, but the lows are very tight.

I know exactly why people say these cans suck with Metal but it's the sound I prefer, The sound isn't colored at all.

How much did you get the 880's for?

::EDIT:: Last night I listened to Pink Floyd The Wall cd2 and that was great, and just listened to Aerosmith's first cd with Dream on, and now Toys in the Attic, sound great.

Trust me on this delete or throw away your mp3's that's under 192kbs, they'll sound like garbage. I pretty much have to get Flac Lossess audio.

Posted by HoldDaSalad on 12-19-2008 11:20 AM:

Has anyone ever used a Altoids Cmoy amp? I'm going to get one for my mp3 player, and try it on the pc.

I've decided to get an actual amp for these cans. I've been reading up on the headphone amps and I feel the sound could be 20x better with one.
