The Official Golf Thread 2009

Finally after grooving my swing at the range for the past 4 weeks I'm hitting the links tomorrow (Phoenix Golf Links) for my first round of the year. WOOHOO! Just wondering if any other fellow golf members here have been out yet this season. Any recommendations on new golf balls, clubs or tricks or tips? Gonna purchase some of the new Titleist Pro-V1 once I've been out enough to warrant the extra money on them.

Here's a tip. Find a job. Then you can afford to play a round with me.

Heading out in 2 hours looking forward to it even with the colder temps this morning (t-off temp will be about 36F)

Great deals on gloves and balls right now at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Not really into golf but I know Caddy Shack rules!

Have you ever drawn inspiration from the movie?

this doesn't belong in the sports forum but more the General section. Golf is an activity not a fucking sport, LOL.

dong.....you put it in the wrong forum...this implies that is actually a sport...we have this debate every year and came to the conclusion that fat drunken retards bowling are more physically active than tiger woods in a golf cart

therefore this belongs in the pink

Shows how much you've paid attention. Watch the Masters starting today and I'll give ya 100 bucks for every time you see a player, actually playing a round in the tournament, riding in a golf cart. Here I'll save ya some time; none. Golf carts are technically not allowed in any PGA or USGA sanctioned golf event though there was one exception with Casey Martin who had to sue the PGA to use a cart in some of their events including the Nike Tour and PGA Tour. He no longer plays professionally but coaches a college golf team in Oregon though he says he wants to come back to the tour. But over the years I've yet to see any other player use a golf cart.

It's fact that the golf swing is the hardest move in any professional sport and is the hardest move to master.

Oh yeah, THE MASTERS STARTS TODAY!!!!!

Had a good round yesterday, well good for the first time out this year. Nice course though pretty tough. Plus the temperature didn't help lol, 1st tee temp was 36F though by the time we made the turn it was already up near 50F. The wind was blowing like crazy which doesn't help on a "links" style course. Didn't seem to effect our golf balls though which was odd.

Funniest shit that happen was when on the 17th hole, a par 3 151 yards with an elevated tee and a creek running in front of the green, my buddy golfing with me, after dribbling his first shot into the creek, lol, took a mulligan which proceeded to hook and hit this building (pictured below) in the corner there. Damn ball bounced back and forth between those two walls, sounded like cannon going off. Happens to be the clubhouse LOL! I was laughing so hard I about pissed myself and thought I was gonna pass out! He takes drop in the drop zone, puts that one in the creek, turns to me and says "well I guess I'm done with this hole just give me a 6" LOL! Needless to say I par'd this bad boy, the 3rd hardest hole on the course (rated 16)

*Fixed*

Just because something is hard to master and takes skill doesn't mean it's a sport. With your reasoning playing Guitar Hero is a sport?

Ever score a 300 in Bowling? No because it takes physical and mental skill yet it's not a sport, it's an activity.

Wanna play Bobby Fischer in a round of chess? It takes massive amounts of skill to master the game of chess

Ever play darts and get that bullseye? That is 90% mental and believe it or not about 10% physical yet it's not a sport. You have to walk your fat ass back and forth to the board.

You justify Golf as a sport because they walk to the holes during tournaments? Casey Martin is a fucking gimp with a gimped out leg, He's got a gimp disease. Yet he's played professional Golf? When's the last time you saw a gimp play sports? It's called the Special Olympics.

Zoot you should throw this thread where it belongs, In Da Pink.

Well for one thing, Bowling has been shown in the past on ABC Wide World of "Sports" so I guess they have no clue either. When's the last time you saw a dart tournament or chess tournament televised on one of the major broadcast channels or cable sports channels? As far as Casey Martin he should have never been allowed to play but thank some liberal no fucking clue judge for that (ruled under the Americans With Disability Act which was not created to be used in this way in my opinion) Unfortunately he couldn't cut it hence the reason he is a coach now. He just wasn't that good though I guess he thought he was.

Wow though your hatred for Golf is got you too riled up, you really need to get laid. And get a job. Since you got so much free time right now, wanna go play some Golf next week my treat?

I'll go, I'll play. I want to see you exert yourself, Oh wait you won't because it's not a fucking sport. Since you know your justification of it being a sport is because they walk to the holes. You and I both know we won't walk that whole course, and it's not because were not athletes it's because we are lazy.

I don't hate it, It's not a sport though. It's a fucking activity just like bowling. Sports takes physical agility. something Golf, and you lack.

It's the liberal media who televise Bowling and Golf and call them sports, which they are not. So just because gimpy boy couldn't walk to the holes he shouldn't be allowed to play? If it was a sport I could understand your reasoning, but it's not so you're full of shit. That proves it's not a fucking sport.

Next you'll say Soccer and Golf are about as physical of sports as one another right? Please for the love of god don't say it.

You gonna pick me up? Fuck it. Lets get high and then go. We'll get the steam roller out, and even the bowl and smoke first. That would be entertaining.

So when we doing this?

Seen both on ESPN as soon as last year, also along with billards and poker. Not trying to prove a point really either way except that a lot of nonsense is televised.

Funny thing is in my thread here I never brought up if Golf is a sport or not lol. I play it for the enjoyment and competition with my buddies. Of course only one person I've ever golfed with beat me but that's not so much because I'm that good but rather because they all suck lol.

If you're up to it para, we can hit the links next week but early in the morning and we can walk it if you want, all 18 holes. Average course is about 4-5 miles long if you walk straight from tee box, fairway, green next tee box.

Edit:

Convo on im tonight with para:

Para: I don't think throwing a football around is a sport, I don't think riding a bicycle is a sport
the candyman: lol tell that to lance armstrong with his broken collar bone lol
Para: Well maybe a bicycle, but not for recreation. it's much different if your riding professionaly
the candyman: hey you got hurt doing an activity!!!
the candyman: lol
the candyman: oh so if i play professionally its a sport then?
the candyman: wow you just proved my point dumbass lololol

LOL!

Me riding a bicycle around a park is recreational exercise, not sport you git.

You're fat, you want to feel like your able to play a sport so you golf so you can lie to yourself and say I play sports. I'm sure all the 13 year old kiddies are impressed

Thanks tard you got my thread name changed. Whoever did it, your momma don't love ya.

Again your ignorance is showing lol. By definition many recreational activities are sports.

sport (spĂ´rt, sprt)
n.
1.
a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.

Merriam Webster's definition:

2sport
Function:
noun
Date:
15th century

1 a: a source of diversion : recreation b: sexual play c (1): physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2): a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in

This guy seems to think by definition Golf is a sport: www.unewsonline.com/media/storage/p...y-3198536.shtml

Again as I told you I don't really care if you or anyone else thinks it's not a sport, by definition it is, therefore, as I mentioned on IM, claiming it's not just shows your ignorance. That or you really have to much time on your hands and are so sad and bored you want to argue a point that has been proven wrong to you time and time again. Know what would fix that? GET A FUCKIN JOB!

So you believe what you want, I'll stick with my educated opinion.

Are you ready to walk a round of 18 next week? We'll have to tee off between 8-9 so I can make it out to work by 2. Be ready to walk at least 4-5 miles, carrying a golf bag, since the average course is 6000+ yards but that doesn't include the distance between the greens and tees. Or the walk to the clubhouse for food lol.

This does look fun:

Golf anyone?

quote:
The course's so-called "Xtreme 19th" hole is a par 3 -- a par 3 whose tee is atop a cliff on Hanglip Mountain, more than 1,400 feet above a green carved like the continent of Africa. You've got to take a helicopter to get to the tee box, and from there it's more than 630 yards to the pin. Once you tee off, it takes nearly 30 seconds for the ball to hit the ground.

I haven't been out this year (unfortunate since most of our courses are open near year round weather depending), though I do have a standing Friday invite to play Here. So I could be out every week for 36 that I didn't have to pay for. One of these days I might just make it.

Damn that Xtreme 19th hole looks sweet as hell lol! And I thought the tee box on the 14th hole par 3 at Tree Links was high (about 150 feet above the green)!! Man I would pay to play this course and that hole!

Avalon looks like a nice course and that pay for 18 play all day special sounds sweet as hell.

Some courses here have play all you want after 3pm for $18 with a cart which ain't a bad deal at all.
