Official 8 Mile Review

Before you read further, let me say this Eminem is a pretty good actor, and this movie rocks. Now with that said, here is my review.


From the wrong side of the tracks comes the story of Jimmy Smith Jr. (Eminem) as 8 Mile tells his story of 1 week of his life that changes forever. I found this film to be semi biographical that mirrors Eminem rise to fame.

It was interesting to see M's character intertwines into the movie, and 8 mile expands big time on where Crossroads with Britney Spears failed.

It's hard to review this kind of movie, as being a fictional bio, makes it harder to put into words, but in 2 words; IT ROCKS.

The cast and direction of this movie is great as director Curtis Hanson and Kim Basinger reunite to give credibility to Eminem's acting debut. I would say that it might garner Kim Basinger a Best Supporting nod.

8 Mile is rated 'R' for language, sexuality, and drug use.

From the first time I saw Eminem, in his video, and then in interviews and what not, I always knew he'd make a great actor...when I heard 8-Mile was comin out....I couldn't WAIT.

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! I dont like eminem because i dont like rap but i have the feeling hed be a good actor because he seems very emotional and stuff.....cant wait to see this even though it may not be my favorite.. thanks mg

since this is kinda like a bio, do they show a part when EM gets his ass beat by chopz from the mountain brothers at a freestyle competition? it happened in real life so im just wondering if they show it in the movie.

i hope its good i been waiting forever i was pissed when they pushed it back to nov 8 from july 15th

I just saw this movie like an hour ago in a screening so i am gonna do a review. also bring the thread up since it opens this weekend.

Plot:

I think everyone knows what the movie is about and who is in it so need to talk about that . The plot was good for the most part , just when u feel like u can predict the whole movie it gets twisted and changes events quickly which keeps u going with the movie. It wasnt based on Eminem's life as much as they made it to be just the fact that he is white and was poor from detroit is similar.

Acting/Directing:

Like him or not Eminem gets the job done on this movie. He fits very well in the role and does an awesome job in it . I dont think he deserves an oscar for it cause he is playing mostly himself so he play a different role in order to stand out . Kim Basinger does a very good job in her role as his mom , she might get some awards for it. The rest of the cast did well too. Curtis Hanson stands out and really makes the movie what it is with an excelent directing . It might of fell off if it was somone else.

Overall:

The movie is very good overall and has alot of things into it comedy , drama , stupid stuff and serious moments. The freestyle battels were very good too with nice punchlines. I think it tells the story very well like it was ment to be. If u like Eminem or Hip Hop in general u will enjoy this movie. If u hate Eminem u will enjoy seeing him in some scenes of this movie. I just hope they leave this movie alone and dont make any sequels to ruin it .

From what I know of his life, the movie was very similar to that, but thats cool. I respect your review and you are very right. Its a good movie, and should get some oscar nods maybe. The film mirrored his life in most aspects and he has gone on interviews saying it was just like that.

Defo agree with the rating MG! 8 Mile is SHITHOT!!!!!

Me and my mom went my friends and his mom and we were all lovin this movie! All tha freestyles and battle were ill and tha actin was great, I dont see a oscar tho goin to Eminem, in the fight scenes he wasnt all wit tha actin them out will, but its my favorite movie this year so far... PEACE, MENACE

2nd highest grossing opening weekend for an R rated film, only 2nd to Hannibal

now consider the target audiences of these movies..
scary thought huh?

man this movie has been sold out for a week... Luckily, I bought tickets to Santa Clause 2 and headed over to 8 mile. I caught the first showing of it here in sandtown
