Review: American Wedding (2003)

one of the most awaited comedies of 2003 due to the success of the previous two movies, but can it pull it off for a third time?

the beauty of the pie series is, whilst it relies on gross out scenes to get the biggest laughs, the relationships between the characters is one of the reasons people keep watching. unfortunately the third in the series is missing one of the main cast in the shape of Chris Klein, and its a shame not to continue his storyline. but even without him, there's plenty going on to keep everyone amused for the 100 mins. for the entire time you're kept wondering about stifflers mom, and whether she'll make an appearance, and well... you'll have to watch for yourself

as usual, jim's dad is the star of the show, with some of the best lines. why change a winning formula, and the poor guy has to come to jim's aid, and even michelles, on more than one occasion. the opening scene is just how we like it, jim in a sticky situation with his dad just making matters worse.

overall, the film is different enough from the original 2 to keep fans interested, but not breaking any new ground so people who disliked american pie or american pie 2 are not going to change their opinion with this. i wouldn't say it was as much fun as the second, but plenty of good jokes and fun characters. peoples opinions of their "favorite" of this series seem to differ greatly, so i'm sure a lot of people will claim this is the best. stifflers character is of course as great as ever, and poor sean william-scott really has seem to typecast himself into this kind of role now.

keeping the characters people love and putting them into new positions whilst making the storyline significantly different to the first movies, there's no reason why the team should stop yet. not many films still have people laughing on the 3rd encounter, if only the police academy team had known when to stop.

Yeah Seann William Scott rules, even that new movie he's doing with The Rock looks good.
I do hope that someday he tries to play things serious, that would be interesting
