DVD-R media and Software

Can someone tell me about the best dvd-r media? If you have experience with xbox burning then be aware that that is a factor but also burning movies that are compatible with a wide variety of dvd players is an issue. Also, what is the best software for burning? I have a drive on the way but I want to make sure that I don't have to make too many coasters once I get it.

Well i've burned a couple of Xbox games with Memorex DVD+R/W, and they have worked well on my xbox. Thats basically the only brand ive used to burn DVDs. I used DiscJuggler to burn the Xbox ISOs. But i think u can do it with Nero now, not sure.

Right now I am using Starlogic dvd-r. There were the 1x spindle from Staples(50 for $9.95). I also used Princos 2x and 4x without any problems. I also burn using Nero ver6.
