Adding a hard drive
I'm trying to add an ata hdd but I already have 2 other ata hdds plugged into the cable. I also have 2 cd drives plugged into a separate cable. Can I unplug one of the cd drives and plug the hdd on the same cable as the primary cd drive. If so what do I set all the jumpers as?
You can do so but it is not recommended.
If you keep your CD drive on Primary Master, then you'll have to set your jumper to slave since that's the slot you now have open.
I'd rather go for a PCI solution though.
Imho HDs should always have their own cable.
you can pick up a controller card for dirt cheap these days, and even a cheap rosewill should have no problems, provided you have the extra PCI slot.
