Burnout Paradise

Couldn't find a thread about this game so I'll create a new one (which I doubt will be read as you're all too busy playing GTA IV if my friends list is anything to go by).

Burnout Paradise is a new offering in the Burnout series which changes the format in the sense that you are no longer faced with fixed race after race. Instead, you are now faced with a free-roaming massive map where you can pick and choose your races as you drive around. There are massive amounts of shortcuts to find, billboards to smash and super jumps to locate and clear which all count towards the completion of the game (and achievements on the 360).

The online play is pretty damn good as well. You can compete in a race or take part in hundreds of different challenges which require two or more players to work against each other or co-operatively to complete a task (e.g. get a combined air time of 30 seconds between 8 players or achieve 4 near misses whilst driving). The challenges are the best bit about MP (personally speaking) so far.

The graphics are fantastic and the crashes are even better with real physics to determine the impact on the car as well as some nice particle effects. The DJ gets annoying after a while but the music is quite good (you can always use the 360 to play your own music if you want). Sound effects are decent enough and produce a satisfying crunching sound as you crash or take someone down.

Negatives are that the game modes are limited so can become quite repetitive and you can't restart a race if you lose (which can be annoying if you start on one side of the map and race to the other only to come in 2nd place... you then have to drive all the way back to start the same race again).

**** Now the real reason for the post ****

Criterion have announced that there are to be new cars released (inc. police vehicles with sirens, horns on other vehicles which may be used towards new MP challenges), new islands that will be connected from the main land via bridges, new multiplayer game modes, motorbikes, night time visuals and other extras/fixes. This will be available as free DLC apparently and is due sometime in August. It's great that they are taking this beyond just new maps and are actually implementing game altering changes to keep it fresh.

Can't wait...
