Lightbulb The simpsons movie

The simpsons is ending in 2 years, making it the longest lasting anamated tv show. Do you think it would be c00L is Matt g. Would end his season with a Theatrical simpsons movie? Or maby and Stv movie that in a way sums up the series.
Just a thought.

simpsons movie has been in talk for a long long time now, and as futurama is expected to have a motion picture made now its finished its run, the same will probably happen with the simpsons.

personally, i think it could work real well. but in a few years would we have another "when the simpsons met the jetsons?" gulp.

After all these years the Simpsons is still the funniest show on TV. I'm all for a movie. I saw a Matt Groenig interview where he said a movie is coming eventually. The South Park movie kicked ass over the series, lets hope The Simpsons does too.

I heard only recently in a news article(can't quote one.I forgot)..but there were no signs of stopping the simpsons "anytime soon"

indeed, the south park movie was incredible, probably one of the best movies i've ever seen. personally i dont think the simpsons one could EVER live up to the standard of SP movie as it broke so many boundaries, and was so awesome in ways you wouldn't expect (its a damn MUSICAL!)

i cant really imagine a simpsons movie, what would they do? they pulled out an hour long episode for who shot mr. burns but what other quality story lines could they come up with? their series is already struggling with new ideas and new jokes. just seems like a simpsons movie would be like a seinfeld movie, how could ya write it?

Posted by Siefor on 01-27-2003 03:59 PM:

After Mr. Burns got shot the show went to hell ..it just sucks now ..So movie personally I wouldn't care ...

The Simpsons Movie is about Homer Getting AIDS, then battleing it, and then finally dying... and marge kills herself, and bart and lisa begin selling drugs and becoming whores...

i don't want to see a simpsons movie.. i just wanna hear "Theeee Simpsonsss" in theatre surround sound.

personaly i think a Simpsons movie would be a bad idea...

the series is definitly past its peak..

and a bad movie could really kill it...dead

and yeah, taking cartoon characters from a half hour show, and figuring out a way for them to carry a full length movie, would be real tuff...but possible i guess

overall, id watch the movie, but i would be cringing before it even started

Posted by Mystic Slippers on 01-27-2003 08:49 PM:

There is more chance of a Futurama movie than a Simpsons movie i think. Purely because of the flexibility of the series. It's settings, charachters etc. It's a pretty much open ended series and it's theme offers the crew a far wider scope to work with than a Simpsons movie.

I don't think i'd like to see movies for either. They aren't really 'big screen' material. But if forced, i'd go with Futurama every time. Purely for the reasons i mentioned above (plus i like Futurama more).

Posted by evdubs on 01-27-2003 10:06 PM:

ehh.. open ended? the simpsons manage to start normally.. climax into some of the weirdest shit i've ever seen.. then go back down... like the episode when seymour was a fake and then they returned back to normal.. or the monorail... they could do anything

Posted by darkslide on 01-28-2003 03:45 AM:

they can do anything, to a point...

simpsons weirdest episode may have been.. the one where they go to brazil, and homer is kidnapped.

they could do a movie.. but it would suck ass..... ruin the series, and shit all over the mouth of the simpsons

THREAD BUMP FROM HELL!!

I was going to start a thread for this but I thought I'd check to see if it's been covered before... Well it was, in 2003!!!

quote:

BBC's Radio 1 spoke with Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson in The Simpsons, who says a feature film adaptation of the popular Fox animated comedy series is moving forward.

"You know what? We've just done the table read for the 'Simpsons' movie so although we've been promoting that we're going to do it, now we're actually doing it and are in production," said Cartwright, who is in London for her one-woman show "My Life as a Ten Year Old Boy".

She said it will likely take at least two years to make. "I don't know the name of it and I can't go into details about it and we'll just have to see how it goes, but I think it's going to be great and the fans are going to dig it."

The Simpsons has been on Fox since December 17, 1989.

But I still think it will be a disaster.

Posted by exorcist on 06-07-2005 06:00 PM:

They've been pressured to make one for years but it was stated they'd only do it if they thought they could do a good script.

I definitely have mixed emotions about the whole thing, I mean they have been talking about various movie plots for some time (I am quite positive that I read an article that stated it was in the main casts contracts to do a movie or two once the series had offically ended) and that is really the main thing that gives me hope about a simpsons movie, if the writers took a step back, saw the simpsons for what it used to be, and was able to actually formulate a decent enough script (i.e. not like most of the episodes since season 10 or so ...sadly) it could be a very well done movie....it's ashame the newer episodes have cast such a shadow of doubt over it though, either way as a giant simpsons fan I would most definitely fork over the cash to see it, so i guess they win either way

i coudnt agree more. i have the first five boxsets and no more are out yet in the uk.

if they carry on at this rate, by the time they have released all the boxsets dvds will be at the same stage vhs are currently at (i.e. no one buys them)

Coming Soon -- 'The Simpsons: The Movie'

It's now official. There will be an animated theatrical movie based on television's The Simpsons. A spokeswoman for the series said Wednesday that the show's principal voice actors and a team of its writers had signed on for the project. Antonia Kaughman told MTV News that they will be working on the movie at the same time that they will continue to work on the TV show -- that fans won't have to wait until the series vanishes from the air. "Now we're going to get the best of both worlds, evidently," Kaughman said. She added that series creator Matt Groening "just kind of laughs, because we always said there was no way to pull the writers off or go hire writers that haven't worked on the show. ... They finally worked out a movie team, a team of the writers, because we could never hire outside writers -- they had to be Simpsons writers, and most of them were working on the show. Well, they finally put this team together that has time on the side, and they've been working on the script." She said that the project was only in its infancy and that there is "no release date -- we don't have the animation house lined up yet." Separately, Nancy Cartwright, who plays Bart Simpson, said on BBC Radio: "I don't know the name of [the movie], and I can't go into details about it, and we'll just have to see how it goes, but I think it's going to be great and the fans are going to dig it."

The Simpsons as a show is great, as a movie I don't think it would be so great. I don't see a reason to make a movie, the show is perfect the way it is.

How I wish this movie was made about 15 seasons ago

That trailer is pretty fucking lame. They need to give up already.

Anyone remember the time when Homer wasn't indestructible and was actually funny?

Posted by punzada on 11-13-2006 11:38 PM:

I posted about this months ago I just realized, and i'm here to not add much of anything new!

I'm holding out hope for this even though it's bound to be a disaster.

I've recently heard comedy work that Sam Simon was involved with on Howard Stern and he does still have it, be it a totally different brand of humor then the Simpsons, if they collaberate with some of the great old school co-writers of the simpsons (go back to seasons 1-10 when simpsons were the best, at least for me) this could turn out pretty well (I liked the trailer, although homer saying a line like "i have to save my family" ... I already don't like where that's going).

Me and a friend were just discussing this the other day, they should of ended sooner, but if they take the 20 years, amazing figure, bow out and make a movie for the fans, what else can you ask for, just remember how big Simpsons were in their day and lots of people watch every week for new episodes even though they aren't quite up to par just out of respect. This movie is guaranteed to make money lets just hope they surprise us.

Turns out it's really very good.

Have watched very little of the past few seasons, was expecting to be disappointed, wasn't my first choice of movie to watch.

But it's really funny, excellently scripted, the usual outlandishly funny storyline, brilliantly delivered. They've made the animation sharper and slicker without changing how any of the characters look.

Only disappointment is that a lot of the regulars are hardly in it at all (Barney, Mo, Apu, Burns, Smithers...). In fact, bar Flanders, you get a fleeting glimpse at a few, a couple have a line here and there, but most don't feature at all.

I'd still recommend it highly. (And if you're partial to a little herbage then partake beforehand, it's a movie that'll improve by the bag.)

7/10
