what exactly is up with the menu?

++EDIT++

Fuck the menu is shit, made with a dvd author or something, it' lame, can't be retail.

Posted by saosin on 08-30-2004 09:00 PM:

Good question.

I'm just curious if the menu on this is retail. I've never seen anything like it. So if anyone knows, that would be great. As for the movie: 9.5/10/?

Maybe the menus are being hacked down to home made crap to keep the quality of the movie up. Personally, I've been finding some menus being a giant 450meg PLAY button. Not a terrible idea in my opinion.

But, you never know, maybe the movie did so bad in theaters that they don't have money for a menu on the DVD

Pretty good rip though, definitely a keeper IMO.

5/5/7

after reading the forums for years, i decided i would post. menus are kinda fugly, prolly a standard dvdshrink rip. compressed menus, extras. ugly menu isn't too terible of a bother. 5/5/7. i almost liked the movie.

Posted by StreetMaster on 08-31-2004 02:21 AM:

How about a screen shot of the Menu? Please?

yeah, lol. But this is the second simlar menu and it's fuckin annoying.

Posted by ABOO2004 on 08-31-2004 08:19 AM:

I have just registered to say this lol

This is a proper menu from PAL rental copie

When i first started to watch dvds and stuff i can remmber renting dvds that had the same menu as this.

I dont know why they use this menu and not the original.

Posted by Twisted-C on 08-31-2004 02:25 PM:

Nice Rls shame about the menu though
9/10/6

Posted by porco556 on 08-31-2004 02:56 PM:

Ehh... This ain't no retail R1... Spain DVD all the way. Maybe Mexico. Somewhere, just not R1

Still though, picture quality is pretty damn good. Just going to rip out that ungly ass menu and I've got a "good enough" for this movie rip

Posted by kindrid on 08-31-2004 03:11 PM:

nice quality on the movie
but that menu is weird ,its just a big 20th century fox logo and a small day after tomorow poster on the left
i dont think this is region 1 usa(but does look retial but from what country?) ,the asian silver has a better menu on it than this dvd ,maybe fox should hire some of them guys to do their menus from now on :P

'Cept spiderman2 had music lol

But the subs are made with Scenerist editing w/o stating which languages are which. A little lazy there.

Posted by GRAVESTORM on 08-31-2004 08:25 PM:

Well i enjoyed the movie, quality of this is brilliant but as said about the menu it does look abit wierd.
Pic of menu click link below

The menu sucks!

Posted by d0wnz on 08-31-2004 08:38 PM:

menu looks like X-Men 1 dvd(R4)
and this is R4 since it has latin american spanish + portugese subs

Posted by diekund on 08-31-2004 08:39 PM:

lol wtf is that menu? i leeched this on my slow ass 512 adsl and the menu is ultimate shit

video: 10
audio: 10
movie: 7.5

Posted by dekehead on 08-31-2004 09:59 PM:

Video is solid enough for a look...Definitely needed everything stripped (extras) to preserve the special effects-Especially when this is a 2 hour movie., so I dont miss them .
The menu is complete sh*t, and is definitly suspected to be NON-R1... But Im not one to care about a menu...

My scoring is based on an untouched DVD release.

9/10/xx

Posted by kid606 on 09-01-2004 12:12 AM:

The reason this DVD has such a simple menu is thats its a RENTAL only dvd, its not the retail product. The DVD would have had the movie only and no extra's. We get these dvd's all the time in R4, as this allows for the movie studio to make money from rentals and when the retail comes out people havent already seen the extra's so it gives them more incentive to buy.

Posted by commiewhore on 09-01-2004 03:42 AM:

i feel duped that its not a R1 dvd.....pretty pissed bout that....but whatever, i would never buy this, so i guesss this will do unless some other grp with it wants to proper...heh.

video = 8

audio = 7 everything ripped cept english, i guess its real 5.1

movie = 6 its a happy film

Posted by ABOO2004 on 09-01-2004 02:14 PM:

agree with kid606

I rent dvds in the UK PAL Region 2 and i have seen some of these before

Its retail version but a rental version

Posted by vgcmike on 09-01-2004 11:09 PM:

Can't argue with it, Great Video and Audio. Sure the menu looks as many people said like a rental. All i want is the movie sure i prefer a real fancy menu but who cares, I watch the movie not the menu. Nice release burger keep them coming.

As kid606 says this is NOT a custom menu but a RENTAL menu i have a few DVDs with menus like these which i ripped from rental myself (U.K Rentals)

I think most countries use them

I gotta admit, I have never seen a menu such as this on ANY uk rental I have ripped. Extras have gone yeah, not all audio tracks and subs are on the discs yeah, but never ever at the expense of the original menu. I totally agree that this may be the case in R4 or wherever it is from, but in UK, I personally have never seen it. I could rattle up a menu like that in 1 minute using tmpgenc dvd author, so I would have thought that the film companies would have more advanced menu making equipment than poor old me

Posted by Fill quinn on 09-03-2004 12:20 AM:

Ive seen quite a few rental dvd,s sporting this kind of menu
it is a genuine 20th century fox rental menu.

Some of the rentals ive had with this menu

Daredevil
Behind Enemy Lines
The One

Posted by SnYo on 09-06-2004 01:43 AM:

there is no 5.1 sound on this release.

Posted by NeoCverA on 09-06-2004 02:12 AM:

Thats interesting info. Here in the states, rental dvds are no different than retail.

Menu definately threw me off but movie was crisp.
