Thumbs up

good job Xtreme keep them coming, this one is really nice.

Posted by Ren on 07-07-2002 11:43 AM:

sample looks nice and sharp, clear audio, covers would have been nice if they was printable not outside shots of the box :P

Posted by brr8760 on 07-07-2002 01:57 PM:

Yep-- this is a great job by Xtreme. They should teach others (THE SCORPION KING screw-ups, for instance) how to do a great rip. Two thumbs up... way up!

once again nobody has actually downloaded this release, and yet they write reviews on quality of the release. That just doesn't work....ever...kids rating jpgs again. The actual release could be complete crap, making you look real stupid for say'n it's so good...why not just hold off on your posts? Cause nobody cares what you have to say, unless you actually watched the movie instead of seen a couple pictures and a sample...

Posted by pHo on 07-07-2002 02:59 PM:

audio is supposedly 192kbit.. and fullscreen? yech.

Posted by PenisXX on 07-07-2002 07:10 PM:

hm....there's no FS retail DVD out, plus the covers they included are completely different to US retail which makes me think it's a DVD screener. i'll definately wait for real reatil instead of leeching this FS crap.

Posted by acook614 on 07-07-2002 07:14 PM:

Could it be a rental DVD? I don't know cos I'm not from the states, or anywhere that gets new releases in good time (Its not out in the cinema for a couple of weeks over here in the UK).

Ad.

Just to let you know I think you're right... checked sony.com .. any info/pre-order was directed towards amazon.com and look what they say the special edition retail release will be... widescreen

What is wrong with you people?? Listen carefully. And, "doobie", stop assuming things. I have downloaded the entire movie.

1) This is a retail DVD. There are no "If you rented this...call 1-800... " warning labels on it.

2) The audio is FINE. It sounds like regular old DVD audio to me.

3) Yes, it is Full Screen, but it is a RETAIL (no warnings) DVD. Either there are two versions-- full screen and widescreen (which is not unusual) or the rippers did a great pan & scan job.

4) No, it's not flawless. It's a tiny bit too dark, there's a tiny bit too much color, and the audio could be a tiny bit louder. Ooooooh.

I really dug this movie, and I've grabbed all the improvements along the way. This is the *last* version I will get.

Hope this helps==

Most DVD-Screeners have softcoded subs which means they are selectable and not perm encoded on the video source

There will only be a WideScreen version out in stores.
And who the fuck would want to take a WS source and make PS.

Lastly, check the JPEGS included with the release. The ones of the DVD Case. Notice how the inside of the case is clear(with a white label showing on the inside). Thats not an Amaray which the company would have used, its the standard case for PDVDs in Asia and the UK. Therefore this is a copy of a DVD-Screener or a very very very nice Telecine.

Posted by pHo on 07-08-2002 10:33 AM:

the covers just dont look legit in my opinion . i can't say the real covers for this film look any better, but i saw the artwork to the retail a lonnng time ago, so its not as if they "changed their minds" at the last minute.

i agree with the dvdscr/pdvd accusations personally.

by the naming of the bin files.. it seems they used dvd2svcd

so that takes away the telecine idea

Posted by impossible on 07-09-2002 01:07 AM:

Ok, I just finished watching this, and it is the legit DVD. There are no messages which would appear if this were a SCR. The quality is damn near nice, but it is too bad that it had 192kbps audio since that is causing it to get nuked.

This is one of the best FS encodes I've seen.

lol, i almost laughed my ass looking at how they took the covers, heh. but the quality of the movie was excelent.

well i held posting my comments untill i got a chance to watch this svcd on my standalone.. heres my review.. if its a dvd screener.. its unlabled.. imho this is a beautiful full screen dvd rip.. looks absolutely flawless on my standalone.. nice video and nice sound. i give this release 10/10/9. this will end any need for another release of this movie unless it has DC or extras.. which would be cool
noone knows if there is gonna be a FS release of this dvd... its very possible.. or another thing thats possible is that they were first gonna release this fullscreen dvd and then release a special edition widescreen dvd but decided to just go with the special edition instead of doing 2 dvd releases.. this happens often btw

So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

its cool

as the wise few have said its defo a rental - and the sound seems perfect to me - :]

only 1 teeny tiny nag:

on a pc (prolly unoticable on a tv) horizontal lines are visible (interlacing??) - now i'm not dissin this - its a much better encode than i could do... but without that it would be perfect!

u say it doesent have 'standard sound' what are the standard for sound video? this cant be far off - its gr8!

:]

and wtf are pdvd and fs (i'm guessing full screen)?

Posted by Dopesmoke on 07-10-2002 08:07 PM:

All in All a fairly impressive rip

I just finished watching the Resident Evil thingy and i was quite impressed w/ quality overall. At times i thought the audio was somewhat unbalanced as the soundtrack seemed to overpower the rest of the audio. Picture was a bit dark but besides that i have no other complaints.

Good Job Xtreme (I know you guys can do better though)

Looking Forward to more of your rls'

Much Love and Peace to the Godz

Am I the only one having problems with this release? When I burn it, my DVD player says it is an invalid format, and if I try to extract it to watch on my computer, the audio and video are out of sync, and the videos are only like 30 minutes long each.

Posted by BigMan[ISR] on 07-12-2002 10:17 PM:

Way to Go XTREME

This and ViTE's Shrek releases are the best rip(video-wise) i've ever seen! way to go XTREME! keep providing us with good quality movies.

Nice Version

Its taken me a while to get (56K power ) but its clear, I didnt have a problem with the sound and enjoyed the movie, and at the end of the day enjoying the movie is what matters

so out of a choice of widescreen and fullscreen they chose fullscreen?

oh my sweet lord.

if i ever met the person responsible for purposely inflicting a p&s over a ws on the world, i'd probably remove their genitalia. no seriously. thats a crime of cinema, and one im not gonna let stand.

same with whoever released Seventh Seal in an English Dub. you're going to hell boys

The covers jpegs that they included with this release was from the official chinese version which is exactly the same version as I have sitting in my dvd collection now.

I'll give you some little tell tale signs :

in the picture of the front cover, the bottom left of the cover is a small oval shaped sticker ( this is the shiny dts sticker that is slapped on most chinese / malaysian dvd's even though it contains no dts soundtrack ), the region 1 version has no dts soundtrack & even if it did they do not put cheap looking shiny dts stickers on the cover.

I got it from a local importer, the region 1 version has a totally different cover & is NOT double sided at all !!!

How do I know this ??

Coz I work in a DVD Store & any trade sheets we have received have stated that the region 1 version is a widescreen release only.

If you are such an unbeleiver then give me your e-mail address & i'll send you a scan of the complete cover & cd for you to check against the jpegs of this release.

The audio and video quality are excellent...no matter what the heck it is. I agree with pHo that whoever decided to make it PS from Widescreen ought to be hung by his balls But seriously, this is good quality and that's the important part, right? Not where it came from? Let's not nit-pick here guys. As far as the show, it really kicked serious ass...the best part I thought was when the people were stuck in the hallway with the laser beam coming down...seriously cool sh*t there. I rate this a 9/9/8.
