These new fangled devices bah humgub.
i've got an mp3 player the size of wales, ppl look and stare i bought it 3 years ago out of argos 40 GB 50 quid, it fell out my pocket when i was wiping my arse into shitty water, it still works.
i have £50 phone it works.

What is my point?
fucked if i know

Posted by Dutch on 05-25-2008 04:07 PM:

Looks really cool. Where do you see it for £60-£70?

Posted by 404notfound on 05-25-2008 04:33 PM:

I've only been looking around ebay, but a mate said he would dig out a website where he saw it for £50 plus £15 for shipping

Ebay shops are selling them for £60 - £80 brand new, but you need to pay shipping on top. Most are sent from Chinaland or Japan

link me do....

Why not buy the iphone for £170, you don't sign up for a contract there and then it only starts when you activate through itunes, then jailbreak/unlock with the freeware one click software thats out there and stick your own sim it?
Better than buying that generic chinese crap.
Just my 2 pissy pence.

Because it doesn't work like that anymore. From what I understand, you have to buy the phone by debit card and if you don't subscribe, O2 will debit your card the full amount of the tariff. People got away with buying the phone with cash from Carphone Warehouse until O2 clamped down.

Besides....the legit one still costs 100 quid more, can't do mms and cant shoot video.

AFAIK you were never able to buy them for cash, had few m8's get them.

Posted by David Cameron on 05-25-2008 06:22 PM:

It doesn't really make much business sense, they'd sell twice as many if they hadn't gayed up with O2 exclusivity.

I hate O2 so I say fuck em, Generic Chinese crap ftw.

Posted by Avenue_1 on 05-25-2008 07:23 PM:

I dunno, imagine chattin up a woman and you have to use your phone, and she says "oh is that one of those fancy iphones?" do you tell her it's generic chinese crap or do you tell her it's an iphone. Just wouldn't Feel right using borderline fake goods.

"Is that an Iphone?"

"Yes it is, you can't borrow it, get your knickers off"

End of conversation.

Indeed

I've decided to go for one of these, just going to spend a few hours shopping around first. I have a 2GB SD card which is more than enough for my needs and it has the bonus of being able to send and receive MMS and also shoot video, which the iPhone can't. Plus a dual sim slot will come in handy.

When the got reduced a shit load of people bought them from a forum i'm on and the thing is you keep the contract you sign, so you can just put it in the bin when you get home as legally they have nothing on you.

The whole knickers thing has really sold it for me

Are you getting it over eBay or did you get that magic link?

But men don't wear knickers!

Posted by 404notfound on 05-25-2008 10:52 PM:

Ebay, I'm afraid. My mate found the link, but it was for the older model, the P168+ which you can see here....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZSJqKRqMIQ

...and isn't as good as the A88.

I'll let you know how I get on with using it to get into girls knickers

Some ropey generic chinese firm which will cost you £20 postage to send it there and never see it again, you get what you pay for!

Cheap in the short term blah blah...

Posted by 404notfound on 05-25-2008 11:49 PM:

Well, I bought it. The seller had 15,000+ feedback with 99% positive, so I'm hopeful of at least getting it. Its also got a 12 month guarantee but, as gimpy pointed out, its probably worthless.

Still, I'm willing to take a punt on this... if it lasts me a year, I will be happy.

Its opened up a whole new world, I was totally unaware of this whole cloning shenanigans. From the little research I did today it seems practically every model worth having has been cloned. The Nokia N95 looks especially nice.

Well, the cunt arrived today in a funky looking iPhone box.

Initial impressions are good. The touch screen is far more responsive than I thought. I haven't done anything too taxing though, so no doubt in a few days i will be posting pics of its broken bits all over my floor.

Its impressive alone that it arrived so quickly. Whats the name of the seller you bought from? I reckon I'm gonna get one.

Same here.

Got the k850i at the moment. Phone features are OK, the web access is shit, the camera (5mp) is fucking awesome...if it had optical zoom I'd be fucking it in the battery slot, the camera (for a phone) is that good!

But for £60 I'd get the A88 (for web browsing alone) and wouldn't really care too much if it fucked up in a year (as long as I didn't lose data).

Let us know the seller and keep us posted on good and bad features.

Yes I'm interested in how you're getting on with it too.

Anybody buy one of those mp3 watch phones on sale there? I suppose you'd look a knob holding the watch up to your ear and talking into it...

Posted by Ekno on 05-31-2008 05:31 PM:

I know some people who bought iPhone from the states and if I am correct it was without a contract for around 400 $ or is that incorrect?

You can't buy them officially in Denmark because no companies here want to sell it with a contract which apple has to get some percentage of.

Posted by Neversoft on 06-02-2008 04:40 PM:

Baring in mind that it's a clone and presumably just looks like an iPhone and tries to copy the functionality (and add a bit), isn't the software as buggy as fuck? I'm guessing that Apple pumped a lot of $ into the R&D of the iPhone and I'm not inclined to trust some knock-off company that can claim to clone the hardware and software so quickly.

I could be wrong but I'd expect it to look very pretty but be about as user friendly as a peeled cock dipped in salt.

I bought one on the back of this thread and have to say I'm very happy with it.

It does what it says on the tin which came as a massive surprise to me.

My one criticism would be that the touch screen is a bit laggy and/or unresposive.

In addition to that the instructions are written in what could politely be called 'pidgeon english' which render them pretty useless.

Overall though, very happy. Not tied to a contract with the wankers at 02, it works well and it has a decent camera/video playback.

I got mine off e-bay from a seller called esemart which had a 96/97% approval and it was delivered 5 days early. Yay.

Posted by 404notfound on 06-02-2008 09:41 PM:

Overall, i'm really happy with it. There are 2 versions out there wourth getting. The A88 and the Hiphone. The Hiphone has the ability to mimic the tilt function (turn it on its side and the image changes AR) and the ability to scale images with your fingers, but its apparently buggy. The A88 is a lot more stable but lacks those 2 features.

::edit 4 months later - Hah!
