According to the press release, the new movie will follow the style of the first set of comics, thus being darker and more grittier than the later comics/cartoon series and movies.

It could possibly be bloody good this...

Posted by Mystic Slippers on 07-22-2006 08:34 AM:

p.s: the cg in that trailer is bloody excellent. i like. this movie could be rather bloody good.

Posted by punzada on 07-22-2006 07:44 PM:

....I think I have a stiffy after watching that.

They have correctly found the way to perfectly exploit my childhood, no matter what I hear about this movie I'll end up paying to see it opening day.....god I'm a tool.

How can you get darker or gritter than latest version of the cartoon? Are they gonna curse? I prefer TOS because I thought the newer TMNT cartoons were too dark for my taste.

So TOS was less like the comic books than the newer cartoons?

I'm talking about the original 'original' Turtles comics from the early 80's. The boozing, swearing Turtles comics.

This looks more like that style, although it will obviously not be R rated, but hopefully more along PG-13 as they obviously have to cater for the widest audience.

The teaser really does look good though, very impressed so far with the feel they've captured. I have a feeling it will be a big hit. Good luck to them.

You must have me confused with someone that knows something about comic books. I had no idea there was more than 1 version of TMNT comic books. And the press release also said grittier and darker than the cartoons , and although I've only seen a few episodes of the new version of the cartoon, I remember it being alot more serious and less comical than TOS and can't imagine how you could get darker and gritter than that.

Posted by Moloko_Plus on 07-24-2006 05:19 AM:

I remember the original ninja turtle comics, dark horse did them if i recall. I think they were in black and white, very well animated.

Aint that fucking weird. I would've put a shitload of money on it being Dark Horse as well...apparently it wasn't. (Remembered seeing that the first issue was online somewhere and searched, apparently it was Mirage that published em.)

Entire first issue for your delectation (and if like me you run a 1600x1200 you'll need zoomify or an image scanner to magnify)

Posted by Mystic Slippers on 07-24-2006 09:10 PM:

I was actually sad enough to know that Mirage Studios published them without clicking that link...

it was all well and good right until mikey fell into the bin... as a long time reader of the old comic (excepting the issues 40-41 with the leech thing... it just creeped me out) i was hoping for mildly playful, but intently serious turtles, all of them wearing red... this'll have to do, but its nothing spectacular.

Just curious but how the fuck can a comic book be animated?

they did kind of the same with the new Batman movie, showed a darker more agressive Batman (not like Clooney, "Chill out"....faggot.)

seems like going with the original more violent characters is working well for hollywood.

if they went with the originals, it'd be in black and white... even using the original coloring, they all wore red... they'd kill members of the foot clan regularly... baxter stockman would be black... and in the earliest issues, april showed a bit of ethnicity (darker skin tones and dark curly hair)... and most importantly, they never said stupid shit like "cowabunga"...

i'm not being dumb about this though, i do realize the need to reach as large of an audience as they can, but i'd still like for my childhood memories not to be saturized for the masses...

as soon as i inherit about a billion dollars, im starting my own film company, and we're going to do true adaptations of 80's properties... sure we won't make any money, and i'll squander a fortune uselessly reliving my childhood, but what a ride it'll be... who's with me?

Im with you man, i figure if i rob a few banks maybe headhunt for a couple'a months, i can save enough cash to remake "Howard the Duck", put "Garbage Pail Kids" cards back in circulation and get "Count Duckula" back on the air. It would also be sweet to port "Degenatron" to the new age consoles.

^^^ Not a real game......yet....

Awwwww man no you didnt bring up monsters in my pocket. I had all of those little rubber fukers. I even remember playing the old NES game, you got to play as a vampire or the frankenstein monster. And if you were lucky enough to have friends you could have a buddy join you and play as the vampre AND the frankenstein monster!

So you actually took that gag commercial from GTA:Vice City and visualized it? Why don't you do the pet stuffers one next?

Nah, i didnt make that found it on some gag site, the Pet Stuffers wasnt half as funny as Degenetron anyways. "Smash the Green Dots Inside the Mysterious Red Square" its funny cuz back in the day that would have sounded pretty freekin intriguing, but by todays standards its laughable. Its amazing the difference a few short decades can make.

"Short decades"? I think you'll find that most decades are roughly the same in length

... Thankfully, I'm not the only member of this forum who can remember the days when "good graphics" simply meant it had colour

Now, that derail is over, I have this to say on TMNT: Cartoon was ok, last movie was a bit shite, never read the comics so in my EXPERT opinion... This flick will be awesome!

Its a figure of speech, time flies when your having fun. The 80's are all a big blur, a happy, high, fuzzy, drunken, sexy blur. As for the 90's .... well fuck the 90's. 80's child mother suckers.
