Shite or Good

Random movies I have downloaded and watched over the past few weeks, not many hits, mostly misses.

Boarding Gate - Please die Michael Madsen.

Craig - FFS, why did they waste their time.

Shutter - The worst hour of my life (yes it took me a whole hour before I turned it off)

How To Rob A Bank - Jackpot, good movie.

The Onion Movie - Surprisingly good.

Fuck IMDB ratings for movie selection, what are YOUR recent hits and misses.

Recent hit: In Bruges

Miss: Shutter

Over the past 3 weeks or so...

South Korean:

The Chaser - fucking awesome
GP 506 (aka Guardpost) - Not R-Point, but watchable
Our Town - good storyline (but a bit confusing as the subs didn't cover text that the characters were reading), decent serial killer hokum.
Garoojigi: A Tale Of Legendary Libido - better-than-average funny with some pretty tits off a ballet dancing vixen.
Antartic Journal - disappointing, particularly as it stars one of the best actors in the world - every movie in his filmography bar this one is a classic!

Others:

The Ruins - watchable;
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - forgettable, but if you like chick flicks (as I do ) and think both the chicks in this are cute (as I do) then it's worth the near 2hrs. Well, it's worth about 100 minutes, they've could've cut a few of the other mins out.
305 - A for effort, F for the movie.
The Darjeeling Limited - really enjoyed it, but I was stoned, not sure everyone would find it to their taste.
Drillbit Taylor - my own fault, but I was suckered into watching this by The Darjeeling Limited and the geek-chic of Superbad

Olskool Chop-Fooey:

Judgment of an Assassin - awesome
Five Superfighters - awesome

The Happening - not as bad some of reviews made it out to be imo. still, not great. if you've seen the trailers then you've already seen all the best bits.

In Bruges - Good. i thought Ralph Fiennes was a bit of a let down though. he's kinda of trying to do the same as what Ben Kingsley did in Sexy Beast, but not quite pulling it off.

Kung Fu Panda - Great fun for all the family.

Meet The Spartans = i knew better

Strange Wilderness = disappointed

Drillbit Taylor = meh, got a few laughs, enjoyable to an extent. light hearted comedy.

Street Kings = pretty good

Untraceable = disappointed but ok

What Happens in Vegas.. = i love cameron, so i liked it

Watching the happening was depressing. After watching 20 mins I knew it wasnt going to get better, so when ever something cool happened I just got a little more depressed that it was in such a scattered waste of a movie. It was a nature vs. mankind/ chemical warfare/ mass suicide movie, and the only part of the movie that was slightly interesting and done well was the suicides that took up 1/4th of the movie. The characters didn't fit in a quasi horror movie at all, the girl just seemed immature and wallburg has never sucked so bad in a movie. I'm really surprised by how much I didn't like it. I've always liked M. Night, his movies usually have a unique style and feel. I can't believe this was made by the same director as unbreakable.

Posted by steakknife03 on 07-08-2008 11:50 PM:

Pathology terrible film so bad I can't even remember how it ended.

In Bruges was great Brendan Gleeson was top class as always and I thought it
was one of Ralph Fiennes better movies.

21 was terrible maybe because I expected more after reading the book its based on.

Charlie Bartlett was alright if you have nothing better to do.

The Spiderwick Chronicles wasn't bad for a kids film watched it with my two nephews and they thought it was the business.

Be Kind Rewind has some funny bits but wasn't great overall.

Mamas Boy I liked this. Jon Heder personality kinda remind me of a someone I know which made it funnier.

Grandma's Boy bit of an old film I stumbled on never heard of it till my brother tip me off. Funny stuff and a good stoner movie

Bill also worth a look bit of a fan of Aaron Eckhart after Thank You for Smoking( another great film).

War inc piss take on the Iraq situation. John Cusack does his usual quality and Aykroyd thrown in for good measure. Make's this worth a look.

Posted by OSH on 07-10-2008 09:40 PM:

Pathology: Why was this movie made? Great gore, but terrible movie.

Drillbit Taylor: Quite enjoyed this one.

The Happening: I cannot tell you how much I disliked this movie. Well, like Pathology the gore was nice, but the movie just plain sucked!

Shutter: Started watching this and fell asleep. Was boring, or maybe the R5 sound was so bad that I lost interest...

The Ruins: Another movie with great gore, and actually pretty good.

Superhero Movie: Do yourself a favor and pass on this garbage.

Be Kind Rewind: Strange movie, didn't really keep my interest, but had some funny moments.

In Bruges - I really enjoyed this too, a bit arty at times but some of the dialogue had me pissing. My favourite line is;
"Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall tip in the favour of culture, like a big fat fucking retarded fucking black girl on a see-saw opposite...a dwarf."

Mad Detective - Great film, I wonder how long it will be before Hollywood go and butcher it with a remake.

Vantage Point - Pretty shit, you could see the plot twist coming a mile off and Forest Whitaker, a overweight tourist, being able to keep up with the president's men on foot was a bit far fetched.

21 - Not that good, I'd recommend watching 'Rounders' instead.

AvP Requiem - Garbage

Agreed, the missus decided she wanted to watch this tonight after finding out Peter Petrelli was in it (yes - that was the only reason) but even she said it was utter shit after 30 minutes of watching it (I wanted to turn it off after 10 mins but she made me sit through all 93 minutes).

A rehashed script taking bad bits from other films mixed with several plot holes, poor dialogue and mostly sub-par acting made for a pretty dire film. Michael Weston was quite entertaining at times but that was about it.

I rarely want to turn films off but this one really did deserve it.

Posted by punzada on 07-27-2008 03:51 AM:

the wackness - limited release, about a kid growing up in the 90s in NYC, thought I could relate and would be entertained, was stuck with a decent soundtrack, a main character that comes off like a total tool, and method man talking in the worst rasta accent ever attempted on film. 3/10

dont mess with zohan - worst adam sandler film ever made (yes, I remember little nicky, it was a tough choice). -64/10

Posted by David Cameron on 07-27-2008 05:34 AM:

I actually liked Zohan, the first 10 minutes were hilarious. It went downhill from there but still had some funny moments in it.

Wackiness, I gave it a try, turned if off after about 15 minutes.

Love Guru: This should have been called Austin Powers 4 and was even worse than Austin Powers 3.

Harold and Kumar: Liked it, surprisingly.

Miss:

The Happening. Only downloaded it cause I was bored. Wasnt expecting anything at all from it. Seriously, M. Night Shyamalan makes horrible movies. The only memorable movies from him are Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.

Lady In The Water was crap
The Village was crap
Signs was crap

I don't know why people go see his movies anymore.

Vantage Point.

UGH. Movie gave me a headache watching the same scene over again. Didnt even finish the movie.

Hit:

Street Kings

The Mutant Chronicles. I thought I was looking for punishment getting this. It's actually a good movie and from what I read it was low budget but you wouldn't think. Its got some good actors and not a bad story at all.

Posted by punzada on 07-30-2008 11:46 AM:

Wristcutters - not new, released in 06, but I only discovered this little independent movie just now, it's not amazing, and has a cheesy ending but for some reason I really enjoyed it. fun stupid little movie to kill time with, 6/10.

Posted by Neversoft on 07-30-2008 03:46 PM:

Watched a Spanish horror the other day called "*REC" basically 28 Days Later crossed with Blair Witch or Cloverfield... Sounds terrible but it works brilliantly. Excellent acting and some truly shocking moments.

The real pity is, I think it's already been snapped up for the "Hollywood Treatment" and I'm pretty sure they'll fuck the remake up

Was it anything like this ?

Posted by Neversoft on 07-30-2008 09:28 PM:

Remarkably similar, although the person viewing it was considerably better looking in my case.

I've just watched Taken, it was great, like the Bourne Ultimatum but good. If this movie will teach you one thing and one thing only, it will be do not fuck with Liam Neesons kids

Posted by steakknife03 on 08-03-2008 10:38 PM:

Never really was a fan of Neeson till this film most of the time he plays kinda drippy boring roles. Its a good foot to the floor movie flat out all the way. Very Jason Bourne which is never a bad thing.

Posted by GFXDREAMS on 08-04-2008 08:43 PM:

hehe You guys have missed some excellent movies..

1. Hancock- was good IMO but could of been better

2. The EYE - was excellent IMO

3.The Lost Boys The Tribe - was horrible, I was so exited to see this movies. What a disappointment.

4. Art.Of.War.The.Betrayal.DVDRip.XviD
Very good movies
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233571

And yes I agree with the poster above the people who post at IMDB suck. A Lot of times they give 3/4 and I would of given it like a 8 possibly a 9. But it's to each s own

Those are just some recent films I've seen.

Posted by Neversoft on 08-05-2008 12:45 PM:

I know it's a little old but another underrated film I've watched this year was The Mist. Which; despite a slightly dodgy start is a very good horror/sci-fi with an ending that is either inspired or fucked-up, I'm not sure which.

Posted by antihero on 08-06-2008 12:29 AM:

Have REC sat on a disc waiting to be watched, along with another johnny-foreigner flick supposedly worth watching by the name of The Orphanage.

The Ruins: Not bad...a bit daft, but the amputation scene is worth it

Pathology: Alright....ok, it was pretty shit.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Quite funny and although props go to Jason Segal for getting his todger out on film, there's fuck-all vag to be seen anywhere.

Anamorph: Nice idea but didn't quite work.

Dead Man's Shoes: Ok, it isn't even remotely recent, but if you haven't seen it you deserve to die.

Personally I didn't really like The Orphanage. There's a couple of good scenes but on the whole it's hard work... I didn't like the ending much either.

Just watched "The Mist".

Quite enjoyed it too, might be slightly too long in parts but held my attention throughout. Unsettling ending too

Just watched Big Stan, I had really low expectations, Rob Schneider directing himself in a comedy, not a great endorsement but shit that Jew came good.

Far better than most of the trash he turned out for Happy Madison. Highlight is a group chat with hardcore prisoners about who they can and can't rape - "rape the rapists"

Posted by baha on 08-15-2008 07:30 PM:

The Objective.

Obviously low budget, although extensively shot on location. But, like '[Rec]' that gets favourable reviews above (I was impressed with it too), the storyline lends itself to being small cast / low budget very easily. Walks a fine line between being cheesey and very clever.

I enjoyed it, you may not.

The Strangers - what a load of bollox's this film was. It started out ok but quickly turned to shit.

Felon This was a good film with Val Kilmir, haven't really seem him in much lately. This is worth checking out.

Posted by David Cameron on 08-26-2008 09:16 PM:

Watched this movie last night and surprisingly I quite enjoyed it. Simple story and concept, Nessie goes bad and her and her offspring go on a rampage.

It wasn't a massively high budget but the nessies weren't badly done. Kind of like a Doctor Who budget version of Lake Placid. Some of the hunters weapons for example look like they came straight out of the Tardis.

It's called Loch Ness Terror in the U.K but called Beyond Loch Ness on imdb so assuming that's its U.S title.

Worth a watch if yer bored.

Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr is pure class in this film. Just goes to show what a great actor he is. I watched a shite copy of it so at first when he was in character I didn't notice it was him I really thought it was a black guy. He really make this film, well and nut job Tom Cruise too .

Tortured
It was alright nothing really special about it, but still worth checking out. Kinda reminds me of the usual suspects.
