need help burning movies as VCD's

OK, here is the problem. My DVD player doesnt support SVCD's but he does for VCD's. Since i'm tired of watching movies on my comp, I want to watch them on my TV. What I tried, is to

1. take vcdgear to extract the .mpg file of the bin
2. take nero and start "burn as a vcd"

But, nero gets me this error : The following problems were found
1. MPEG-2 instead of MPEG-1
2. invalid video stream

I tried with the release of shark tale by videoCD btw... SO anyone have an easier or other solution so i can watch movies on my TV? thx a lot

You've got several options. Probably the easiest would be to buy a new DVD player that supports SVCD...seeing as they are dirt cheap these days.

Option 2: use tv-out on your graphics card to just play them through your TV from the computer...this will either mean having your computer close to your TV or a very long wire.

Option 3: convert the mpeg2 files that you get from the SVCD images to mpeg1 files. This will take a bit of time to do the encoding, I'd use either Canopus Procoder or TMPGenc to do this...you can then put the files you get out onto CD so that your DVD player will play them.

Option 4: I'm not completely sure about the details of this but as far as I'm aware you can use 'the header trick' to fool some DVD players that don't accept SVCD into thinking that the discs are VCD and they will play them anyway. Do a google search.

Definitely use TMPgenc for encoding.
I've been using it for a long time, and it hasn't let me down. Just make sure you know the precise frame rate of the file you're encoding, otherwise the video/audio will be out of synch when you watch the movie.

The "header trick" can be done using SVCD2DVDMPEG or they have an all-in-one program SVCD2DVD that will go right from converting the bin/cue files to authoring and burning a fully compliant DVD.
