TV-Out on Video Card

I have a Radeon 9800 video card with S-Video out. I recently got a new HDTV and I want to play Half-Life 2 on the big screen. I was wondering if using the video out option on my video card to play games is safe for the PC/TV and if I will see significant framerate drops.

It'll be fine, I use it all the time... In your advanced display settings, go into the Overlay tab, click clone mode and set it to be the "same on all" and you're laughing... Although I wouldn't advise setting your desktop resolution above 1280x1024 or it'll look like shit.

What exactly does clone mode do?

Basically, it changes how video (or anything appearing on-screen in overlay mode) on your main desktop is sent to your secondary screen... You can either have the video appear on your TV at the same size as your desktop, show it full-screen or clone whatever is on the desktop to the TV... Try licking the "?" at the top right of your display properties then click the button in question for more info.
