Eh, okay flick I guess
Nothing particularly impressive, but it's okay.
Video - 8: When a movie is as dark as this one is for so much of the time, you really need to be damn careful how you encode it. There are macroblocks all over the place on this. Most of the brighter scenes look okay, but like I said, most of the film is pretty dark. When you notice macroblocks in the plain-text title sequence you know something is bad. Other than that it's fine.
Audio - 8: There's a minor hiss in the background throughout the entire film. It's very subtle and low, but nonetheless there. Also, while this isn't exactly an audio issue, there are no subtitles or translations for the Russian speech in the movie. Considering how much of the key plot is delivered in Russian speech this is basically unforgivable.
Movie - 6: Eh, it kind of meanders and wanders through the seemingly derivative plot, then has a very odd wrap-up. I say seemingly derivative because I watched much of the movie without the benefit of understanding the Russian speech. Once I grabbed the Portuguese subs and re-translated them to English it was less derivative. Not amazing, but at least it was understandable and somewhat interesting.
Bottom line: Do not get this release unless you can somehow find english subtitles for the film. (or at least the Russian speech) If you can it's not bad, just don't expect anything amazing. Well, except for that Oksana Akinshina chick, 'cause she's a stone cold fox.
EDIT: Someone finally uploaded subs for the Russian dialogue to Open Subtitles. Looks like they did the same as I did (Portuguese -> English) only they've done a far better job at turning the mish-mash of badly translated Portuguese into understandable English. I won't link to the download (dunno if that's okay or not) but if you google Open Subtitles you should be able to figure it out from there.
