Posted by yoshy on 10-25-2007 12:10 PM:

try a program called convertxtodvd and drag and drop the 2 avis into it and press go................

then come back here, say thanks, and then begin to search the forum for more useful information....................

In his defense, you took the time to post in the forum for one of us to respond but it showed no sign that you'd made an attempt at trying to find the information out yourself (e.g. searching for "join" and "avi" in Google gives you loads of hits). If you had searched and asked which was the best method/tool, I think the response would have been different.

You have to understand we get hundreds of the same old questions by people who could have saved a few precious minutes of our lives (which we could have spent watching granny porn) if they'd searched the forum or Google. We don't mind helping people who help themselves.

I'm going to encode this bad lad in TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress (just my preferred encoder) but before I do I'd like to improve the colour as most people are saying if you boost your colour a bit it'll improve the viewing of the film over all ...

so could somebody out there with loads more experience than me PLEASE point me in the right direction and maybe give me a few pointers or better still the correct setting to use ...

Cheers Fella's ...

thanks?

Tmpeg is a great program which if i wasnt so lazy, would use all the time.

try mucking around with the sample and check the result . until you actually see the result, you wont know what setting to make.

Posted by vanzans on 10-26-2007 06:06 PM:

I think the OP's question is regarding joining the two halves together rather than divx to dvd conversion.

I had this problem too. I think the only way around it in convertxtodvd is to select "sequential playback" before starting the conversion process.

Posted by Ad-Man on 10-26-2007 07:02 PM:

The best way to do it is with virtualdub, open the 1st file the goto "File Append AVI segment" then open the second file.

click the video drop down menu and select direct stream copy, do the same for audio.

Save as AVI.

you just double dutched yourself

I tossed both avis into convertx and an hour later, it spat out a disk to watch on any player, not changing any settings

Posted by vanzans on 10-26-2007 11:31 PM:

Hmm maybe they've changed things on a newer version.

By default it would always show the two halves as separate files on a main menu....but I bow to your superior knowledge yoshy.

AGREED. TMPEGNC is slow/nEro is unstable COnverTxtoDVD is all you need. Faster the machine faster the convert.

3500/1.5G ram converted this nicely in under an hour!

Posted by ZootedLooter on 10-27-2007 02:13 PM:

svcd2dvd.....converts pal to ntsc as well as making seamless video....works for avi too

wrong thread, although i'll assume you know this and are taking the piss.

ok, so i used winavi 8.0 to convert both avis to dvd, then used nero to burn the dvd files.

what's weird is the vobs came out kinda dark, so i did the same thing using winavi 7.6 and it looked much better.

this doesn't actually join the two avis, but it does create a vob index that has both avis included. it took about 15mins to convert using a P4 2.4 (overclocked at 3.8) w/2gigs of RAM.

i did have a question though... after i burned the dvd, i played it and it worked fine in my dvd player, but vlc (my player of choice) would only play the first half of the movie. the second half was all black screen with a fast moving search bar. then someone i burned the movie for says the second half had no audio on her player. what's weird is that she's the only one that had issues with it. everyone esle says it's fine.

I found win avi to be quite moody...
are you putting the .avi's in " merge into one title"
as i said, it used to be my prog of choice but then i got the shits with it and reverted to convertxtodvd.........the only beef with convertx is that i get a small freeze in the end dvd result where the movie was split !!

Posted by Jay Are on 11-02-2007 08:29 AM:

yeah when i used 8.0, i would click the little plus sign in the top right corner, choose cd2 and the window would show both files before i clicked the convert button. in 7.6, the menu was different, but the resulting window with both files was the same.

convertx huh... didn't see it posted, but i'm sure it'll come around. does it have the skip in everything you convert, or is it just if you convert 2 avis into 1 dvd?

btw thanks for the advice

how long does it take to encode?

it only happens when joining them................vey minute though.

fussy pricks will notice but it takes nothing away from the end result....

Posted by Jay Are on 11-02-2007 09:38 AM:

awesome - i guess if theyre that picky, they can grabit themselves! that actually helps... thanks.

Thats because it treats each file like a seperate movie , so when you put it in your dvd player it "switches" movies.

To avoid it join the 2 avi's with virtualdub

1.open first half
2.go to append avi segment , open second half
3.under video tab click direct stream copy
4. file > save as avi > name of movie

Do that ^

And next time you're giving it to your girl...

get her to call you bartleby.

Yeah , but clearly nobody cares what you have to say , thats why they were still talking about a pause between the movie.

try this http://www.alloksoft.com/fast_joiner.htm use it all the time joins the 2 parts in around 2 mins no pause at all.

Posted by TheDA on 11-05-2007 11:40 PM:

Join the files with Fast Avi Mpeg Joiner. It's very fast and no re-encoding is done. Then use ConvertXtoDVD to do the rest. Easy right?

that's a junior member right there... talk about nonsense.

i am offended easily by ppl who mistake being dumb for being ignorant. not everyone knows everything and this guy/gal needs to learn a little humility. i apologize if i went about it in the wrong way, but anyone who saw my comment knows that douche bag deserved every syllable.

Wow, you just confirmed you are dumb.

I'm afraid you missed the whole context of my post.

I used the word dumb, because I thought someone with the inability to read the thread the whole way through and find the answer which i gave on the first page (the same answer bartleby gave) must have some sort of defect.

Junior member.... by posts only. You don't gain knowledge by writing but from reading.

thank you so very much for proving jicjak's point in a way that makes us all laugh at you. without ave, who would we all bash for being so laughably douche-like and freakishly miniscule in regards to intellect? well, we would prolly still laugh at ave.
