anyways, try using the program called IFOEdit, that should do the trick..google it for the website and try vcdhelp.com for guides, don't say i didn't help, but i'm lazy too

Posted by H-Bomb on 09-03-2004 09:22 AM:

Eeh, you can't just change PAL to NTSC by changing the ifo, n00bs. Different framerate and resolution. Please, search for facts before making incompetent posts. Buy a DVD player that makes a hardware conversion in real time. Almost all new players do that. Read the manual.

Why all the talk about NTSC when PAL gives a much better picture???

This is a quick trick that works with Sony DVD players dont know bout others. Good Luck

** BEGIN GUIDE **

This Guide gives a quick overview of the 'Patch' method, used to make a PAL disc appear as if it was NTSC. This method requires no re-encoding, and takes only a few seconds.

NOTE: This method may not be supported by your player.
( Your mileage may vary )
If this method does not work in your player, then it simply means "It does not work in your player". Please don't PM me asking for a fix. I didn't invent this method, and I claim no responsiblity if it does't work

That said....On to the guide

Tools required:
IFOEdit

Assumptions:
This method requires that you have all of the necessary IFO, BUP, and VOB files stored on your PC. Although you can create new IFO files with IFOEdit, this guide is not intended to cover that option. It assumes you have a working DVD image stored on your PC.

Launch IFOEdit, and select the OPEN button located in the lower left hand corner of the GUI
When prompted, browse to our stored DVD image (usually located in the VIDEO_TS folder), and select the primary IFO file (this file will always be called VIDEO_TS.IFO )

Once you open the main IFO file, you'll see a large amount of information displayed.
Ensure the IFO is selected in the upper pane. It should be the first item listed in that pane:

If it is selected in the upper pane, the lower pane of the IFOEdit window, in the DESCRIPTION column, will display information specific to what is select in the upper pane.
(IMPORTANT: You will not need to select anything other than the first entry in the TOP pane. Further along in this guide, you will be instructed to scan for all entries in the IFO. This applies only the the LOWER pane, not the UPPER pane. It is not necessary to scan through any other items in the Upper Pane).
Scroll through the list, and look for any reference to an aspect ratio (16:9, or 4:3)

Double click that description text. This should open up a properties dialogbox, which allows you to specify settings for that individual IFO element.

To 'patch' a DVD so it appears to be an NTSC or PAL disc, you
change the following:
Standard: NTSC or PAL
Resolution: Set this to the closest compatible format (i.e. 720x480 for a 720x576 disc, etc)
Static: Set this to Automatic Letterboxed
Click OK
(Note: The information displayed in the Description column will NOT update until you re-open the IFO)
Repeat this process, scanning through the entire lower pane for ALL references to an aspect ratio.
When you are sure you have modified all lines containing a reference to an aspect ratio, click the REGION FREE button to remove any region restrictions (if any)
Finally, click the SAVE button. You should be prompted to also save the BUP file as well. Answer YES.

Next, click the OPEN button again, and browse back to your DVD file folder. If the folder contains any other IFO files (exluding the one you have already opened), repeat this entire process for each IFO you find there. You should find at least 1 more IFO file at a minimum. Depending on your DVD, you could have several.

Once you have modified all IFO files, you may find it usefull to close IFOEdit, and relaunch it. Open each IFO to verify that all references have been updated.

Burn as usual.

This method works on many sony dvd players. I have 2, my brother has one and my father-in-law has one and theyre all different models. I dont know what other brands it will work with...

It does give a better picture, but while most PAL DVD players will play NTSC, not as many NTSC players will play PAL.

You can fool the DVD player into thinking its NTSC, but it will still output a PAL signal, so make sure your TV will take it.

As for this release.

10/10/9, from sample.
im gonna buy this on Monday, as i love this film.

Posted by pNd on 09-03-2004 04:42 PM:

excellent film, but a DVD-R might take a while to get on 1.5mbit. so i guess i'll wait for my local library to get it and make do with the svcd until then

Perfect video and audio. THough, I didn't really liked the movie.

I love british comedy and I find Dylan Moran excellent in Black Books but I just don't like this movie.

Don't get me wrong, some parts were just great but the ending was too lame (even if it is a parody...) and a lot of the time I didn't get that "(british) comedy" spark lighting my laugh...

H-Bomb; please don't continue to talk out of your ass as you have no clue what you just said. And yes, obviously you can trick the dvd player into thinking something is NTSC when it's PAL. So no, i'm not a fucking n00b, you're the n00b.

g'day

jsut so ya know a buddy of mine jsut tried to help me with this ifo trick the other day on teh 24s3 dvdrs and it doesn not work wiht my unhackable pioneer dv250.. its black and white and scrolling either way. however on my panasonic which doesnt play pal at all (says unsupported disc) after teh ifoedit it played. as for teh pal vs ntsc... yeah pal has a slightly higher resolution than ntsc, however ntsc has a higher framerate.. so its more pick your poison than anythign else. theres plenty of programs u can also use to recode them entirely if u really want to go through the motions.. i know sony vegas is good at encoding pal->ntsc.. and i believe dvd2svcd with cce will do it if u choose dvd->dvd. dont quote me on that second one yet as i havent tested it.. anyways thats my .02

Thats not your DVD player thats your TV, the DVD player is playing it fine, but is outputting a raw Pal signal, which the TV doesn't understand, My bedroom TV is the same with NTSC.

NTSC has a lower framerate, thats why PAL versions are shorter than the NTSC one, as for the differences, if you have compatible hardware for both, it is minimal.

Posted by pHo on 09-04-2004 03:12 PM:

ntsc has a higher framerate
ntscfilm has a lower framerate

pal suffers a 4% speedup when converted from ntscfilm, ntsc suffers extra frames being inserted but remaining at the same speed. neither are "good" hence progscan 24p is the best, even tho it has a lower resolution than pal.

Fix Does Not Reinstate Extras For Me

i copied the files from the fix and overwritten the originals, then ran IFOEdit and applied the "Get VTS Sectors" button, they got fixed and replaced.........the dvd went passed the universal bit and warning prohibtion and straight to the main menu, but the extra button is still not reintated..........can someone help me or confirm this fix does not reinstate the extra button, or point towards a pff patch file?

TIA

Posted by numbnuts on 09-08-2004 07:27 PM:

re

subs still default on after fix

ya need to add sub stream 1 off in the pgc command table.

then its fixed

Finally got around to watching this release...

Both Video and Audio are flawless on my region-free standalone player (best $50.00 investment I could have made) so there's no need to even comment.

As for the movie, I personally liked it - alot. And I say that as being one of the few people to not see any of the 'living dead' movies (except for Dawn of the Dead '04) disabling me from understanding the film references... As an American, I didnt quite understand every British bit of jargon, but I certainly did understand quite enough to realize this is a good film..

Finally a decent film in sea of crap that's been released the past year (Kill Bill sequel being the only other bright spot this year IMO)

10/10/xx
Definitely a must see, especially if youre a fan of Brit comedy.

Awesome Quality. Like any other offshore DVD-RiP/Copy Release (Hero, 28 Days Later, etc.) so we can all appreciate and enjoy this realease.Nothing bad to say about this one. There are almost no extra features, but menus & 1 or 2 mediocre features remain intact.Doesnt bother me any though, just glad to have such a superb copy.

no audio

I just downloaded and unpacked the file with winace AND tried again with winrar. First of all i cant mount it to test it because no programs support .img files and when i rename it to .iso it works but there is no regular audio for the movie. So could someone who has watched the movie (without commentary) please tell me the excact method of how you went about watching it so i can duplicate and include the audio. Thanks a ton. I can watch it all works fine but just no sound!!! there is sound on the menu but thats it!! so frustrating!!
