VCDQuality Desktop

its about that time... wanna beta test? find me - tell me...

Its currently in the making, im just starting to get somewhere... It only has like 10 hours into it.... But its coming along smoothly...

Therse a few things I could use.... Icons for all the buttons (for the ones i have now it would cost $7 per... fuck that),a nd just any ideas you might have...

nothing wrong with comming to the site,and when i do,i will gladly click the ads(if need be)..but why on earth would you want to put ads in this type of app,especially under these circumstances?i've got a couple similar apps(whipped up by other forum members) that sit on the desktop and notify me when new files are added to a server or new updates/news and such gets posted..or,are you just being sarcastic and/or am i just missing the point(not a very hard thing for me to do in my brompton's cocktail-ish stooper)

first of all, theres nothing wrong with going to the site...

as for the ads, in the last version it did have ads... but now, im trying to figure some stuff out with X69.. Might end up having them in this, might do something else...

drop down menu's use mnemonics jus coz... its the fad

How would we know if a release has been nuked, and the rating(quality etc) of a movie? Would this refresh/update itself or be static until the software is reset?

if a new release is posted on vcdquality would it email a notification / popup a message auto.?

Would it be possible to send our own rating of a movie via that app which would update the vcdqual site?

chat feature of people who are using that program would be nice

also how about giving the exact size of the movies as well as the number of cd's ..

How would we know if a release has been nuked gotta ask X because that info is stored seperately from the listing, and the rating(quality etc) of a movie? look at the last pic i posted Would this refresh/update itself or be static until the software is reset? it does refresh - you cant see it, but theres a blank button on the far left (which i just got an icon for) to refresh

glad to see someone taking an interest in programming, im a graduate computer science/with management student myself, graduated couple weeks back!

but you must love programming, i cant stand it these days, finished of a large genetic algorithm (i kno lines mean nothing, but it was 400+ pages) for my final year proj (forecasting/scheduling in java)

Yes, of course java isnt going to be as quick as a native app but java as a whole is a superior language for platform independency, providing web services and allowing comprehensive well intergrated systems all working in unison.

It also has a gigantic community with some really amazing things available for it not to mention the free open source arena in which it exists.

Funnily enough the c# and php5 implementations are so close to the java model its scary - but of course, its shit?

The Dixons Group (for those who dont know: Dixons, Currys, The Link and PC World) recently 'upgraded' their computer system.

Bearing in mind how many stores they have nationwide, they used to use a program called REPOS (Retail Electronic Point Of Sale) written in COBOL, with a Server in each shop and a series of dumb terminals throughout the store, and a couple of mainframes at the HQ in Hemel Hempstead. Not the fastest or newest of systems, but so stable it was unbelievable.

They 'upgraded' to using an HP PC at each point where there used to be a dumb terminal, and a router instead of a server in each store. And ONE server at Hemel Hempstead, to which every PC is individualy logged into. The new program was called Eclipse. It was written in Java. ITS SHITE. It crashes constantly, the server crashes, and when the server is down - each individual shop cannot even check its own stock.

Probably a bad example, but I just dont think Java was meant for something like that. Websites and funky bits like VCDQuality Desktop - yes. Corporate Financial/Stock Control systems - no.

only saying that for someone that would like to look at all releases but say one or two groups, other then that, looks ace so far, keep it up.
