Oscar 2008/2009 Season

Well,

Looks like one of the studio's "Warner Bros" have offered Blu-Ray Oscar nominations screeners this year.

Info from Ken Rudolph's movie site.

Happy days ahead I hope

wonderful

any early thoughts on winners for the next oscars?

Just seen the trailer for "The Soloist" and think it has a nomination for Foxx written all over it.

In Bruges
and
The Orphanage

In Bruges yeh
The Orphanage meh

Not seen many real Oscar candidates this year, the films I've liked have either been based on comic book characters or been comedies.

Favourite movie so far this year ; Pineapple Express - Oscar chances? ZERO.

Posted by Neversoft on 09-24-2008 07:46 PM:

Looks like I'll have to finally spend some fucking money and buy something that can output HD rips to my TV

... Pity the 360 and PS3 are shit for streaming HD, I don't need another fucking PC.

Posted by David Cameron on 09-24-2008 09:45 PM:

Couple of movies I saw trailerized at the cinema tonight look like likely candidates.

Pride and Glory ;

Edward Norton, Jon Voight and Colin Farrell.

Body of Lies

With Russel Crowe and Leonardo Di Caprio - plus directed by Ridley Scott.

They look like the type of movies that get whored over by academy members. I'll probably get my first chance to see them by way of pirated award screeners. Its their own fault, i'd gladly pay to watch them if they could only beat those pesky pirates to release.

Posted by dvd r on 10-03-2008 02:16 AM:

in bruges... i can see a push happening for best screenplay and ralph fiennes for best supporting.

but i really doubt either of those will happen. and yeah i liked in bruges. i just don't think oscar noms are gonna happen..

and as for the orphanage. well the orphange had it's chance last year. it was spain's entry in the foreign language category. it didn't make the cut to be one five films to get a oscar nom.

but everyone knows last year forirgn film category was pretty messed up. i mean how many people thought 4 months 3 weeks 2 days would get a nom. and of course it didn't....

Posted by dvd r on 10-03-2008 02:39 AM:

cupid... body of lies.... well what recent movie staring leo has gotten some sort of oscar nom. (pretty much all of them right ??)

it would be interesting to see if the streak ends here...

pride and glory. well after in bruges. i want to see this. go c.f.

but i don't know if either of these will get oscar noms seems only one populist 'action' movie a year gets noms

last year it was 'no country'/before that 'the departed'.

it it will take a cool combo of box office/critic push/acclaim a dn god knows what else to put these officialy on the oscar nom sheet (plus goona have to check what else is coming out)

i think these films could have an easier time/may be more of a 'lock' for something like the golden globes(or whatever it's called sorry)

but really if the academy is gonna go 'populist' and is thinking of pushing ratings higher than it's been in oh a decade or so. i bet the use the surprise movie and nom something called 'the dark knight' (and yeah it seems heath is lock for best supporting nom.)

'the soloist' yeah the academy really loves this based on true story stuff....and seems goos on paper. we'll see...

and a really surprise move i read elsewhere. what if for 'the soloist' they push robert for best actor and jamie for best supporting ???

sounds smart since the robert for lead actor thing could be viewed as vote for his body of work for the year (iron man/ tropic t. and the soloist)

and since jaimie won a best actor for ray pretty recently. the deck could be stacked against him to another lead actor race in a bio movie. so putting him supporting would be a stronger move ???

well would clooney have won his oscar if he was in the lead acyor race ??? doubt it. so this approach could work...

Wow ...is it just me, or does it seem this year (unlike past years) that the screeners are taking forever to be released. All those oscar screeners sent out, and still not one around....strange!!!! (even cams are becoming a rarity!!!!)

Josh Brolin stars as George W. Bush in this Oliver Stone biopic that traces the head of state's rise to power from a privileged alcoholic to a born-again Christian whose belief in religious destiny helped move him to the top ranks of political power. Co-written by Stanley G. Weiser, Bush is produced by fellow Stone collaborators Moritz Borman and Jon Kilik, with Elizabeth Banks co-starring as the first lady, James Cromwell as the elder President Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush and Richard Dreyfuss as Vice President Dick Cheney.

So many good movies not being released.

Posted by Jaded4Ten on 12-25-2008 06:23 AM:

There have been great releases so far: Frost/Nixon, Cadillac Records, Revolutionary Road, Seven Pounds, Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, and Gran Torino.

Of course, we're still waiting for The Wrestler, Synecdoche New York, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, W, and The Reader.

It seems we're about 50/50.

Posted by baha on 12-25-2008 04:43 PM:

You could've mentioned Pride And Glory, Passengers, Choke, Passchendaele, Take, In the Electric Mist, Che: Part One...or any of about 50 others.

I cannot remember any previous Oscar season bringing so many titles to the party, there has been a deluge this year truly unlike previous ones...it'll take me to March to get through them all

Unbelievable number of titles out, far too many to list them all, but two worth noting that most will be interested in: Benjamin Button and The Wrestler both available.

Rachel Getting Married

Now if we could just get "Rachel Getting Married" the Oscar-movies would be complete (:

No TDK? What a load of tosh. Guess you have to have, as one starlet so mused, a role in some trash "holocaust" movie. Wonder why. And how grossly repugnant this situation is.
