-- Scientists are fucking with my chips! (http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?threadid=84294)

Posted by Neversoft on 02-09-2009 08:02 PM:

Scientists are fucking with my chips!

Now, many of you are well aware of that Great British delicacy "Fish and Chips". Well, presumably because they couldn't think of anything else to spunk a research grant on, some cocksnugglers at Leeds University have been analysing the smell of fish and chips to identify the smell and appeal of them...

... It turns out it's a combination of butterscotch, onion and ironing boards (the stupid cunts!)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/...ire/7878629.stm

So, what do YOU reckon chips smell of? Personally I'm going with vinegar!

Posted by Jingofin on 02-09-2009 08:23 PM:

They smell of chips...Unless you put vinegar on them, in which case they smell of vinegar, because the smell of vinegar overpowers the smell of chips because you put vinegar on them, thats why they smell of vinegar because vinegar is on them and vinegar is what you can smell. I like chips with vinegar on them so I often smell chips with vinegar on them because I put vinegar on them.

Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar Smell Vinegar

But... Do you like vinegar on your chips?

I often think of Fish n Chips as a Brit thing (not that I think of em too often), do Yanks, Aussies, Canucks and wherever else you bastards come from enjoy the pleasure of em?

Note, I'm talking about proper chunky chips not fucking fries, which are an abomination

Posted by danimal39 on 02-09-2009 08:40 PM:

Actually they can come thick or thin here, the common condiment here is ketchup, but I like mine like the dutch ,with mayonnaise, never tried them with vinegar ,will give it a shot.

Could not live without the chippy -- run by a glasga girl

All be it - I'm a Geordie Transplant.

Some skimp here and go with regular fries but the real ones serve proper chips.

Fat and some still with the skins on.

Scousers like vinegar

Gravy FTW

I went for "Chips, you dick" you dick. Of course they smell of chips - THEY ARE FUCKING CHIPS! I really hope that wasn't taxpayers money that blown on that "research".

I don't like fish, so its sausage or pie and chips for me. And yes, I put vinegar on my chips regardless of whether I have sausage or pie. I also put vinegar on my sausage or pie. I don't eat mushy peas. I will eat curry sauce occasionally. Tomato ketchup on chips, ketchup AND mayonnaise on fries, which I'm cosmopolitain enough not to dismiss out of hand.

Posted by Neversoft on 02-09-2009 10:05 PM:

NO FUCKING VINEGAR?? I suppose some folks don't like vinegar but otherwise it should be illegal to eat chips without it *shudders* some of you folks are freaks

To my shame, I had a smell of my ironing board when I got home from work... I detected NO "essence of chips"

Posted by olskoolfife on 02-09-2009 10:14 PM:

I don't hate vinegar on chips but I never choose to have it.

I always get funny looks of the staff when they ask me If I want salt n sauce and I just grab the salt from them and put it on myself.

Chip shop staff are cunts and always put too much on.
Mind you I'd probably do the same.

Chips smell of chips for the record.

Rub some butterscotch on it.

I'm assuming they were seriously trying to work out what fish with chips smell like by comparing them to... what something else smells like?

Fucking retards. Butterscotch? Onions?

Am I being a spacker or would they only smell of butterscotch and onions if that's what they were actually made of? I guess I don't understand the science of it. The appeal of chips is in the fact they taste nice, not because they smell like your ironing board.

Chips smell like potatoes, which for me smell like mud. So... er, mud and lard? And fish?

Posted by aWe on 02-09-2009 11:17 PM:

My Parents were originally from the U.K./N.I. and i lived there for a while so i like my fish n' chips. Personally i love them with malt viniger, tartar sauce, you know, the usual.

P.s. being on the pacific coast of canada, we do get some damn good fresh fishy chips.

Chips smell like the oil they're cooked in.

Chips for oil and oil for chips. And who the fuck said they've never had vinegar on niggers lips!!!! it's an abomination i tell ya!!

Around here, chips smell (and taste) like an ironing board. That's because they've been reheated under a grill after being left over from a previous session.

Chips without vinegar ,bit like alcohol free lager.

Fish and Chips deep fried is probably the second best British dish, after a Sunday Roast.

Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas, is there any other country in the world besides England where you can buy that? If so, I am yet to visit it. Just chips doused in salt and vinegar are tasty as fuck, just thinking about it makes me want some.

I love the chippy in the same way I love my Sister, they're both fucking fantastic but I haven't visited for months. I may have to stop by some time this week.(The chippy)

Sunday roast now your talking , roast chicken ,roast tatties, yorkshire pud, pigs in blankets, broccoli (cooked in chicken stock...use the stock after for the gravy) peas and runner beans covered in nice thick onion gravy......Lovely.
Why do northern people put gravy on fish and chips, seen this done in Blackpool bunch of retards.

Why do you think I don't visit her often?

I have fish cake and chips with mushy peas for dinner tonight. I'm easily influenced by threads written by retarded homospazzes.

Lived in Brum for a bit and travelled up north (mostly to footy matches) and found that more places do curry sauce than gravy. Not a fan. Not least because the sauce tastes nothing like curry...kinda like a beigey/brown mayo with a hint of Worcester sauce...or something like that.

And no vinegar for me. Salt, mushy peas and a bit of tartar sauce on my rock/cod...

Actually might get some tonight...

When I was growing up in Essex they used to serve gravy chips at every school dinner, so not just a northern thing. Maybe just a chav scum thing?

Anyway NS whereas I normally respect your reserved and considered opinions, you're wrong on the chips/cheese debate. If you can find squeezy cheese - not Primula - proper squeezy cheese they sell in the US, the stuff that looks like mustard but isn't then that can't be beaten on cheese.

That said, blue cheese or Wensleydale will also work on chips. Cheddar not so much, takes too long to melt.

That brown stuff they use in fish & chip shops isn't vinegar anyway.

Google for "non brewed condiment".

Not really... I don't mind gravy on my chips but generally I prefer them drenched in Sarsons and crunchy from salt with an assload of "bits" on

(dunno what you folks call "bits" but I mean the crumbs of batter that they shove on gratis)

I did. And I learnt something.

Used to have vinegar when I was a kid, but went off it sometime in my teens. Wonder if that's because they started using NBC instead of real vinegar.

I've always known them as 'bits' as well...but must be 15yrs (or more) since I've heard anyone in London ask for any!

Move south NS...all the bits are for your taking!

Best fish & chips ever? Wickstead Park, Kettering in the 1960's. They used to cater for kids outings from the working men's clubs so it was literally hundreds of portions at a time. Kettering is also on the interchange for the main motorways so they got their fish even quicker than the seaside resorts did.
