Posted by LMB on 01-12-2003 11:24 PM:

What are you talking about, "bad AR"? The AR is perfect, this is the way the movie was intended to be shown! FLAT HEADS AND ALL! Don't critise unless you know what you're talking about

i hope you realise this is a joke.

I'm pretty sure they release it as whatever they get it as... in this case I think they thought it was WS but it was a FS version so they encoded it as WS now it looks all fucked up... just go get the screener that came out a while ago... theres no tags or time codes on it... it's FS and pretty damn nice lookin...

Posted by ScabbyDoo on 01-12-2003 11:57 PM:

anyone who cannot fix AR bythemselves without waiting for a rerelease should not even be downloading movies from anywhere

This is in widescreen.

The DVD was probably 4:3 with letterboxing and they encoded it as 16:9 with adding more letterboxing. Can't tell yet, didn't see the sample.

LOL How the hell did a DVD-Screener come out for this....I AM SURE it's not nominated for anything unless they give out golden globes to the best Jackie Chan stunt coordinator. Shit release of a shit movie how appropriate .

I'm sure many people don't know how but then again many people DO know how but wouldn't waste their time fixing someone elses fuck up not to mention the time consumption and quality degration. I'd rather wait for rSE to fix it but then again the previous screener will hold me off since the retail is due next month. I still don't think this is a dvd screener, maybe fs retail or pdvd from another country but deinitely not a dvd screener.

Look stupid now? I've always looked stupid. For many years my relatives and colleagues have commented on my stupidity as well as my mental stability. This isn't really new to me at all. Just ask HippyHater.

What's the point of widescreen? Fullscreen looks so much better.

n00b alert!

fullscreen cuts off about 1/3 of the movie.

What does "AR" stand for?

:: aspect ratio, ie the proportion of height to width.

Great point... if all would just watch the sample first this site would be a great tool once again.

Screen shots are not enough. Even the sample may not be enough, but it is 100x better than a screenshot. The reason the sample is not always the best thing to go by is when the sample is of the best part of the release and everything else blows.

Posted by mort8104 on 01-16-2003 01:54 PM:

AR you wanna know what it means?

Aspect Ratio goddamn it... what else could it be? Audio Reverb? Ample Rip?

Anyone who posts a comment on a rip they haven't seen is an idiot. So since I haven't seen this rip, I will refrain from making inane comments about the quality of the jpeg.

I will however say that EVERYONE should download and watch 'Bowling for Columbine'.

An amazing documentary that was more than a bit disturbing for me to watch as an englishman.

Peace

good answer i respect that :P
you shafted me now

Posted by escapeee on 01-26-2003 09:52 PM:

YES before anyone tries to sound intellectual, i am a noob or whatever you want to tag someone who is pretty much new to a certain subject/topic and thankyou to the people who pointed out (without being patronising) that indeed AR stands for aspect ratio, i like probably thousands who use these forums did not know that and am now wiser!

Secondly, the person who replied

"n00b alert!

fullscreen cuts off about 1/3 of the movie".

I think what melon was referring to and indeed what i too was thinking is that if this title was originally encoded in fullscreen (which is what it looks like judging from the jpg) what is the point in re-encoding it in widescreen, you are not going to gain any extra picture detail width wise by doing so and proportionally would have looked much better left as full screen.

Thanks again to the few who greet new users with respect and not critism, the web is overwhelmed with people who are 'up' themselves by trying to seem superior.

Regards
escapeee
