I thought it was great(watched the telesync). However I have a feeling most of the people who post/visit this forum will probably bash it. It's a little slow, but if you like philosophical films then take a chance.

I haven't seen this release, though(Re: Quality).

meh...gj TcS, im gonna grab this one.

why do u need to get a quality rating anyways? its TcS and a dvd screener. We know what to expect of this.

i liked this movie a lot -- however, some people loved it, some hated it with a passion. i say download it, if you think its boring halfway through, delete it.

The movie is too silent and uneventful for most people to like it. But i loved it, and i'm so glad a dvd screener is out.

Thumbs up woohoo

Don't know about the quality of the this release but its a damn good movie, one of the best of the year. Its not for people who like stupid action packed steven segal fake kung fu wannabe good but very lousy movies like XXX. its a deep movie, if your a complete dumb ass don't watch it cause you won't understand it. For those who aren't dumb asses watch it, you may like it.

Talking I'm a dumbass...

Hey, I am offended...

I'm a dumbass and I liked this movie.

What gives?

Posted by shamelessbill on 01-22-2003 02:05 PM:

Yeah, people who think for themselves and dont like something you do are stupid.
This movie was a piece of crap, slow pointless Stanley Kubrick wannabee POS.
You want deep and thought provoking/intellectual? Watch adaptation and be blown away.

PS; fuck you parasite. Your handle is appropriate

Posted by mikeylikesit35 on 01-22-2003 02:18 PM:

Adaptation vs Solaris

Adapatation?

Man... that was a great movie BUT how much more pointless can you get.

It was intellectually entertaining, it just wasn't intellectually stimulating (like they intended).

The best part was watching Nic Cage play such a different type of role.

He really is a versatile actor.

Solaris?

great movie with dorky actors. I think they should have rewrote the screenplay to be 'Dusk til Dawn part 31214' with those actors.

You seemed to have missed my point, I never said anyone had to like it, I think people should THINK. most people in general do not, thats why alot of movies like kangaroo jack, xxx, and many more movies where you don't have to use your brain come out. To be quite honest i saw adaptation that was a damn good movie, in my top 5 for the year. I have talked to quite a few people who have seen Solaris and didn't understand it. The question is why didn't they understand it? the movie is suppose to leave you with a wonder not a deffinate answer. Thats another reason some people don't like it.
The world would be a better place if people thought for them selves, instead we have movies like the fast and the furious comming out and kids try to be like the movie, another pointless but entertaining film. kids who try to act like the movies do not have thought for themselves. thats what todays youth is growing up on. if more thought provoking movies came out maybe people would start to think more. then again maybe not.
Oh thank you, i'm glad you feel the same way i do. "Your handle is appropriate."
No i'm off to get the movie. later all.

Posted by sandvic on 01-22-2003 03:27 PM:

Some people don't understand it because it's not a really good adaptation of the book, maybe they cut the explanation at the end of the book on purpose which I think it wasn't a good idea

Ya know, today there are more ppl thinking for themselves than ever before... and your complaining.

Posted by Wretched on 01-22-2003 06:12 PM:

The movie was terrible. I consider myself pretty tolerant when it comes to bad cinema, but I left the theater half way through this one.

Posted by Bakkoda on 01-22-2003 08:55 PM:

Just because you make a movie look like its thought provoking, doesnt mean it is. I could stare at a bidet and give you some kind of life lesson but it would be total bullshit. Some times people look for words of wisdom in the wrong spots. like a bidet for example.

movie sucked. like a 3.
quality... its a screener.

Posted by SharkeysMachine on 01-22-2003 10:22 PM:

I saw the FTF of this when it came out, and i just finished this one. I really liked the movie, as others have said though, it's not for everbody. It is slow paced and there isn't alot of action, but the acting and storyline are excellent. Thanks for the great release TcS!

Posted by slipdisc on 01-24-2003 03:22 AM:

watched the first disc and i got bored. but i watched it again from the beginning again and its seem more interesting... not the best movie of the year.

anyone into action will hate it -period.

exactly, that was one of my points all along

Opening Credits!??

Are there any opening credits for this movie? I only watched the first 2-3mins and it starts with GC sitting on a bed.

Question

>Are there any opening credits for this movie? I only watched the >first 2-3mins and it starts with GC sitting on a bed.

Just checked-- looks like this release is missing the 20th-Century-Fox logo, then the Lightstorm Ent. logo and then a few seconds of black screen with rain sounds in the background. That seems to be it-- there aren't any credits in the film.

Dunno if this matters much-- maybe the screender DVD came that way?

Yea, I went to watch it this morning and i thought I had burned CD 2 twice.. lol Thats kinna weird. I wonder whats up w/ that. Anyone been to the theatre to see this one or seen another release? I am wondering how much of the beginning we miss. Maybe thats how the movie starts, but that would be a first time for me seeing a movie start w/ no credits. Makes me think I am missing something... But then again I'm a fucktard, so what do I know. Anyways, I think I'll go watch this movie and see what all the fuss is about. Get my own opinion rather then going by what everyone else says, or judging by the jpg...

Posted by parasiticgann on 01-26-2003 01:54 PM:

Thumbs up nothing

you guys are in luck you didn't miss any part of the movie at all, it was said in an earlier post. the only thing missing is the 20th century logo, and lightstorm, and a few seconds of a blank screen and you hear noise, thats it. you missed none of the movie at all. so you guys are in luck.

Posted by alundrety on 01-28-2003 03:46 AM:

i dont think this movie was bad

i saw it in theatures

the problem with this movie, its that its not a movie that really ment to be "stimulating" in any way

its odd and unsusual

and its a brain twister

see the original movie from the 70's

but i will give my thumbs up to this movie because it was beautiful and acutually made me cry for some reason

but it contains no action at all
no hero

and the point of the movie(the book) if you know it is that the planet is acutally a giant brain pretty much

and that there is no god, blah blah blah

damn communist sci-fi based story.. wierd fucked up shit

Does anyone get blocky kinda colored squares that pop up occasionally? I watched CD1 on my Apex and it was driving me crazy, never seen that before. Maybe it's cause of the cheap player/bitrate? I'll try it in the Sony I guess, if anyone else has had this problem I'd like to know.

wtf, i just noticed this... the nfo isn't posted on vcdquality because TcS has specifically requested that they not be, so you figure you'll just make your own little nfo post anyway? i'm glad that at least now they're dead links...

jesus christ

great quality great sound movie suked.....i like philosophical movies that make u think but the writers took a story line for a 30 minute film at the most and spread it to the length of the movie.....they stretched alot...adding in scenes that repeat (memories). i don't wanna say to much and ruin the movie fro ne one else.

Video and Audio are just fine. On the other hand the movie stinks. I'm not sure there really was an ending, and you don't get to learn squat about any of the characters except you do get real up close and personal to Clooneys ass.
Good rip and all otherwise

Posted by Pra3t0 on 02-06-2003 05:26 AM:

Video & Audio quality was very good. Thumbs up TCS!

*SPOILERS*
I liked this movie. Soderbergh was definately going for the Kubrick/2001 feel. I didn't care for the Clooney ass shots but... oh well. I also think I would've been a little more freaked out about seeing my dead wife again. And then I would've asked her/it about a 100,000 goddamned questions. And that bearded dude, what was with all the annoying hand gesturing? I wanted to smack that f*cker! Anyway, it twas a good sci-fi mystery movie.

If there are deep philosophical undertones in this film then could someone please elaborate on what they are?
There didnt really seem to be anything much that happened?

It did actually provoke some philosophical thoughts in my mind
- I think I'm bored, therefore I am

Other people seemed to have enjoyed it though and the quality was fine so good release all the same.
