Just watched both the nuked workprint and the repack sample - the original was WAAAY off sync - this repack seems pretty insync. Video looks typical for a workprint - Not screener, r5, or dvd quality but deffinently above telesync or cam - colors a bit faded. Sound is great, nice and loud - I prefer stereo mix to 5.1 anyhow so this is great. SO... Can anyone say the differences between the workprint and the "official" release? I hope this doesn't have a temp soundtrack cuz Rambo without the Jerry Goldsmith score would really suck!
Gonna watch this tomorrow unless someone says on here the soundtrack is a temp one. - MENTALDOMINANCE

From rar and sample. Logo remains but cannot fault the overall video quality. It is a workprint. Sound is very good. Think Sly will be around forever.

8/8/?

I liked the movie but then again I pretty well like all his movies. 8

decent

video = 8 cuz of the words, other than that i'd give it a 10
audio = 9 sync was fixed yay!

Typical Workprint. Video appears a little dark but good, sound is damn good. Thanks for the quick release.

I re-encoded using roxio to DVD, never locked up during encoding so hopefully will view okay.

Rating based on video during re-encode

A=? will update after I view the movie
V=8.5 (video looked decent)
M= ? will update

After viewing the whole flick rated as follows:

A=8 (nice loud audio .. no sync issues)
V=8 ( colours a little dull, maybe it's intentional don't know )
M=8 Call me crazy but I liked this movie ... maybe for the body count

Personally I thought this movie was terrible. With an utterly useless plot Stallone ponders through the movie with bad acting and little else. In tight action scenes he leaves it to younger actors to pick up machine guns and roll around whilst he sits back and lets rip with an anti aircraft gun.

As usual we have the arrogant brit, hero american, naive women and asian baddies.

How this is scoring an 8.2 on IMDB i don't know. This film does not belong in the vicinity of Full Metal Jacket, Batman Begins and Blade Runner - jesus!

Don't expect this to be a classic. None of the Rambo movies are. Its an escapist movie.

V = 8 * good apart from text but hey who cares

A = 8 No issues here

Watched it earlier today...not bad...a little pixelation in the dark scenes but definately watchable. Best version out to date and damn good for a week old movie.

I'll assume you don't have this release otherwise you would have said it plays fine---or scored the movie as this thread is intended for.
As for those who mentioned doin it to dvd makes it play properly ---Thanks i'll do same

Either I didn't want this movie to end so soon or this movie is very short.

Is it just me, or is the theatrical version even bloodier? I think I enjoyed the German release more, but the audio of the workprint is obviously superior.

I remember hiring First Blood on VHS when it first came out.

Quarter of a century ago.

Thought id add my post on this one, movie was ok kinda still looks like the 80s rambo movies but more blood. Pretty shocking in parts with legs and heads missing never saw this on the 80s version but the style is the same. Movie is to short and plot is not great. Colours could be nicer as very slightly faded but still plays all the way, noticed a couple of sync isses but nothing major and more near the end where the all the action is happening. Good work Camera.

Video = 7.5 (for a WP - streamed thru xbox360, and looked good)
sound = 6.5 (Still out of sync in places, but doesn't ruin the film)
Movie = 6.5 - Never saw the original rambo movies, even though i grew up in the 80's! This is ok, lots of gore with limbs flying off etc, plot is a bit weak, but i suppose you really know what your asking for when u go to watch a Rambo movie.

Congrats on gettin the Workprint.... first 1 of 2008!

Posted by skindog on 02-03-2008 05:47 PM:

V:- 7 slightly washed out, other than that good.

A:- 9 Sounds very decent to me, no distortion, very clear throughout the range.

M:- Probably most violent film I have ever seen, which I like. WAY better than I was expecting. Well done Stallone.

Posted by jrw on 02-03-2008 07:43 PM:

V 6.5 Low res hurts it , darker scenes lack detail , colors a bit off, watchable but borderline. (judged from viewing on a 50" Kuro plasma via X360).

A 7.5 Not to shabby but could be a lot better.

M 8 Better than I expected. Watched from start to finish. Extremely violent at times, ill definitely be picking up the Bluray

Posted by dariusgw on 02-03-2008 07:57 PM:

Video 7 Not the clearest, but definitely watchable
Audio 8 Sounds good to me
Movie 9 Not the biggest Rambo fan, but this movie is intense! Watching people get blown up throughout the movie was expected, but I tell you it's a must watch!

Not a bad release, very watchable, though not the best video for a workprint,.... if you dont have it yet then i would wait untill the 21st of Feb... theres a R5 due out around that time

Posted by frak on 02-05-2008 09:55 AM:

Watched this on the TV.

Video was good, a little washed out and not that crisp, but very watchable.

Audio was very good.

Movie was good -- I'm a big Sly fan and like seeing him come back with this film and Rocky.. stuff I grew up on. He's still in great shape for his age.

Here's a REAL REVIEW:

I saw this opening weekend in the theater. It does not have vivid color. It was shot with low color to give it a more grainy feel. The so-called "workprint" is the same as the full theatrical version...... but this wp version is missing a few cgi shots where blood is seen (when rambo shoots the guy with an arrow and he falls on the mine). In the theater/real version a big blood "fountain" is seen but in the wp it's missing. It's not a big deal. The wp and theatrical version are the SAME. YOU ARE MISSING NOTHING!

v8 (watched on 32lcd and 60dlp - video is nice)
a9 (sound is great. no complaints)
m8 (i loved it. stallone did a good job bringing rambo back and also putting him to bed. i don't think we'll see rambo again.... this was a good way to finish it all off just like he finished off rocky.)

Since this is a workprint, is it missing any scenes or effects or anything?

Posted by d_dog on 02-10-2008 06:46 PM:

To those questioning my eyesight, I would like to revise my opinion and raise my initial score for video from 3 to 5.

This looks like a re-encode of a VCD to me. It's blocky and blurry particularly in long shots, not so much in close-ups but then you can see the result of the low quality encode in the backgrounds.

Flicked through it using MPC, VLC and WMP, after reading the other comments here I uninstalled k-lite and installed cccp, no difference. Tried using ffdshow, xvid and divx in turn and various levels of post-processing. Not a great improvement with any of them.

Converted to dvd (as if that's ever going to improve quality...) and looks slightly worse. Maybe I'm fussy, but I don't believe this came straight from a dvd workprint. VCD, yes. It looks exactly like a rip of a mediocre VCD encode.

I'm not desperate enough to watch this all the way through, personally, but if you have low standards then I guess you won't mind it. Comparing it to something like the Halloween workprint though, there is no possible comparison in quality. It looks like a piece of crap beside that, hence my low score rating it as a wp.

A three for video was a bit harsh, but I think someone should have got the original leaked source and ripped that instead of this crappy re-encode.

V - 5
A - 7
M - ? (waiting for the R5)

Posted by NorQue on 02-17-2008 10:46 PM:

5/8/4

Video: 5 - blocky as hell, artifact heaven and big lettering all over the picture.

Audio: 8 - can't say anything bad about it. Sounded good.

Movie: 4 - this is it? That was Rambo IV? A bit on the short side, isn't it? Lot's of violence... but nothing happened. Credits seemed to be longer than the movie.

Posted by cece on 02-21-2008 01:33 PM:

i thought it was good,quality,sound,and the movie.
