-- Ken Rudolph Recieves First Oscar Screeners (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=78751)
Ken Rudolph Recieves First Oscar Screeners
well according to my favorite site around this season Ken Rudolph's Movie Site our favorite academy member ken rudolph has recieved 3 screeners so far
just glad to know that the season has officially begun.
Finishing The Game should win every Oscar going.
The end.
You've seen it then Slippers? It looks good but it could be utter dross.
My money is on American Gangster doing well, if it is even half as good as it looks it will win best picture.
MC Hammer and the search for Bruce Lee's stand in, how could it not sweep the awards.

Nah, it sounds far too cool to be considered for an Oscar. Hairspray all the way.

Haven't seen it but my guess is there are lots of scenes with Keira 'bones' Knightley staring into space contemplating poetic/romantic things.
Seen it all before, stick the skinny tart in period costume, rehash some old Jane Austen kack and watch a bunch of sad twats proclaim its brilliance.
People who claim to like that kind of crap are either, middle aged overweight women with no romance in their life, people who want to appear clever without actually being clever and teh gays.
::All in All, probably the best shout yet for Best Picture.

No, you fall into the fourth category of;
Blokes who pretend to like it to impress the ladies, or in your case, the lady boys.
... oh, and Keira Knightly - I so would.
Alas, not everybody is as shallow or judgemental as you cockface

well kenny boy probally won't get most of them till November that seems to be when they start actually sending them out.
2005 was the year that the CiNEA coded discs were the big push, according to ken's site last year none were CiNEA coded; but a few groups have been asking for CiNEA cracking help so maybe they are starting to go out again.
And yeah I love ken's reviews too, alot of times I will check his site just for the "must watch" list.
This years screeners are being released disguised as Fleetwood Mac CDs.
They look like a normal CD, they even play audio, but have the movie secretly encrypted in a 'hidden layer' on the disc.
In addition to the player required to decrypt the discs, the end user is also required to eat 200g of Sugar Puffs from a UK size 9 Clarks 'Big Gripper' shoe using a urine sample tube as a spoon at the time of viewing.
This action by the end user is synchronized with the player playback function and thus allows the player to differentiate from the Fleetwood Mac audio CD and the 'hidden' movie encrypted and tucked away on the hidden layer.
I also heard a new Tope colour laser has been developed for this system and may make it to the high street players for further DRM-related annoyance...
Things We Lost In The Fire
Looks like Things We Lost In The Fire is the first REAL film that had a screener sent out, and only two days after Kenny Boy got we got it too. So far a great start to the screener season!
cupip, yyeah i thought atonement would be poison to you. and hey i seems like it could get multiple noms...yet again it *is* your year....
and let's see you else my want to watch atonement...add these category....
people to will watch/want to watch because of the hype/oscar potential/(if it gets) oscar nod...

11/7 THE KINGDOM DVD

Yep, nice to see The Kingdom on there although a dvd screener of that would have been out soon either way. It's when shit like Lion's for Lambs gets teefed that gets me aroused.
Oh yeah I expect lions for lambs by the first of dec. for sure, like you said the kingdom is nice; but we were due anyway. But gone baby gone, lions for lambs oh yeah those are just around the corner w00t!

I wonder when the studio's will start to issue film's to the Oscar bods in High definition.
My bet would be Blu-Ray+ as it can not be encoded to any other format yet.
Just my two cent's.
ok this list is getting pretty drool worthy.
but these aren't the type of films 'the scene' rushes to release ????
i'll just have to look at ken's page and dream. *sigh*

I guess I have nothing better to do tonight than follow links back from the user log on my site to this page.
Hi, guys, and no, I haven't received a copy of FINISHING THE GAME. But thanks for the flattering mentions of my site.
Also, fyi, none of the disks are Cinea coded this year...in fact they all seem to play fine on any of my DVD players, at least the few of which I've even opened the (invariably this year) flimsy cardboard container. The nice thing is that they're thin and lightweight sent this way. This entire year's group is only about 2 feet tall so far, as opposed to the yards of thick jewel cases that were sent in previous years.
Also, I think it will be some time before any of these screeners are sent out in either of the HD formats. I doubt if even a fraction of the recipients could play them at this time...and the Blu Ray vs. HD-DVD dilemma has to be settled first. Especially since the studios seem to be increasingly polarized in their format choices.
It's only in the last two years that DVDs replaced VHS tape for all releases. Each studio sends out an info request to all members before the season starts, and for a few years they allowed for people to check whether they'd rather receive VHS or DVD copies. I noticed that this year the studios stopped even asking. I doubt if any VHS tapes are being sent out now. I suppose that sooner or later they'll start asking if people would prefer to receive HD disks; but it hasn't happened yet.
By the way, here's some info only for you: By my rough count about 10% of these screeners are mailed, 50% sent FedEx and the rest sent United Parcel. But I live in L.A., the point of origin for practically all these screeners. I don't know how recipients in other states (or foreign countries) get theirs.
Keen on keeping on...

Hi Ken
Thanks for the useful information, also, thanks for not being too smug about being one of the lucky few to receive these movies pre-release... legally.
As an academy member, someone who actually has a vote in who wins, are you allowed to give predictions on who you think will win the major awards this year? If you can, I would love to hear who you think will win; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.
Just watched Charlie Wilsons War. Best contender yet, If Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn't get at least a nomination for Supporting actor I will eat my own anus.
wow ken returns. thanks for not having anything better to do...
and the predictions thing if you could.... ???
awesome question cupidstunt.
curious ken do you think it was better(for movie fans/reviwers/and non mainstream films etc) when the academy awards happened a few weeks later ???
things now seem hyper compressed why only a few weeks to work in/work with...
regardles, thank you sir for dropping by. yes i discovered you page via the scr listing thing in this forum. but i do love you page/movie reveiews and i rather jealous you get to see so much cool stuff at festivals. you definitely mention stuff i see no one else covering.
p.s.
cinea is dead/long live flimsy cardboard container.
I'm thinking that "There Will Be Blood" will probably be sweeping the awards. Am I right in thinking it is eligible for this years Oscars because it had limited screenings in 2007?? It's already been voted 'Film of the year' by the US National Society of Film Critics.
It's definitely the movie I am most looking forward to watching at the Berlin film festival next month, that and of course Madonna's directorial debut??
cupid i believe you are right as it must have a showing before midnight on december 31st as per the rules here:
quote:
#
The required Los Angeles County qualifying run (described in Rule Two Paragraph 2) must open between January 1, 2007 and midnight of December 31, 2007.
#
A picture theatrically exhibited inside the U.S. prior to the Los Angeles qualifying run shall be eligible for submission provided the prior exhibition takes place in a commercial motion picture theater after January 1, 2006, and that no other form of public exhibition occurs through the completion of its Los Angeles run (previews and festivals excluded).
#
A picture first theatrically exhibited outside the U.S. prior to the Los Angeles qualifying run shall be eligible for submission provided the prior exhibition takes place in a commercial motion picture theater after January 1, 2006, with the following further conditions:
a) the film may not be exhibited publicly in any other medium for a three-month period following the commencement of its initial theatrical engagement, and
b) after the three-month period, the film may play in non-theatrical forms provided they are outside the U.S. (No film that is shown inside the U.S. in any nontheatrical form prior to its qualifying Los Angeles run shall be eligible for Academy Awards.)
