Review: Marco Beltrami - Terminator 3 (Score) OST-2003-XCell

Just like with most scores, most notably in recent months with Matrix Reloaded, score/ost releases can give a good indication and feel of a movie before you've even seen it, sort of like a pre-picture painted in your head of what to expect. They can sometimes have the power to build up a sense of excitement for a movie. Marco Beltrami's score for Terminator 3 does exactly that.

We are plunged politely in to the first track, A Day In The Life, which coincidentally i'm presuming is the opening theme for Terminator 3. Gone are the traditional 'duh duh duh d-duh' chanting beats of the theme for the first two movies. Instead we are treated to a soothing, almost sentimental opening that builds in to a riot of noise and chants and sounds. Ok, it's not a perfect replacement for the old theme, but nonetheless it's a brilliant piece of music.

The majority of tracks, such as Blonde Behind The Wheel and Hooked On Multiphonics are big, chunky, explosive numbers just so suitable for an action movie. My favourite is probably Hearse Rent A Car as it bares the familiar 'drone' sound so recognised with the Terminator movies. Beltrami pulls off some very neat touches mixing some tracks with moments of real tension that suddenly explode in to a riot of noise and colour that just blow you away. This is a Terminator score, but a Terminator score with a difference. The best of the first two movie scores has been picked out and worked upon and poured out in to a cauldron of utter niceness.

Beltrami has done a spectacular job here. If the movie doesn't live up to the hype, the soundtrack certainly will for this is a simply magnificent collection of works to what will (possibly) be one of the biggest movies ever. Such anticipation is riding on this movie, so many expect so much. Well, i haven't seen the movie, but i've heard the score and that much i can tell you, is damn good. As for the movie, roll on July...

without even hearing it i'll agree, as they've taken the good half of the poster to use as the album sleeve, rather than that tacky female endoskeleton image that appears underneath it. i can't be arsed to find the picture, but if u've seen it u know what i mean. the top half (the part used here) kicks ass, the bottom half (not used here) is gay as fuck.

Yes, music was definitley better than the movie. Disappointment, ditch the robot girl for part 4, get rid of the dorky John Connor and get back to the basics. The script sucked, robot girl's character is as flat as a table, number 2's t-1000 was... 1000 times better! What a let down; all the SFX in the world couldn't cover for this one.
