Wii drive problems

Playing an original game disc (Mario Party 8) it was stuttering like hell, seemed to me as if the drive was really struggling to read the disc.

Cleaning the disc didn't help.

This is on an unmodded Wii, 8 months old.

I've read that certain games have drive read problems, is this one of them? Are there known issues with Wii drive reliability?

Not really. The only one that has caused problems is Smash Bros cos that is the first dual layer disk for the Wii and some early Wii's struggled (Ninty has been fixing em under warranty though).

Is this happening with other disks? If so, send the twat back. Otherwise, Nintendo will replace faulty disks so long as they're not covered in cig burns and coco pops

Yes, I did notice some stuttering previously on some of the Super Mario Galaxy video cutscenes.

Also this Mario Party disc apparently works fine on someone else's Wii.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just buy a new Wii from Argos, swap it with this one, then take it back as faulty? It would certainly be quicker than having to post the unit back for Nintendo to fix under warranty.
