I think you're thinking of Crash. The XviD of this looks great.

If it's cropped, it is kinda hard to tell.

For a dvd screener, this is excellent. I didn't notice any cropping problems, or AR problems. Excellent release, nice timing, and most importantly for me, I didnt see any noticeable BW screens when i scrolled through.

Bless ya. Nothing's better than a centopy ts.

And this release should be compared to other dvd screeners, as such there's no way the video and audio should hit a ten. Only so so encoding on this 'un.

can anyone confirm this has no black and white scenes and no scrollers its just that i`ve got the tc and if its got black and white scenes and scrollers i`ll keep that one i didn`t notice any in the sample but that don`t mean nothing

Posted by Dodgy Del on 07-16-2005 12:50 PM:

this is really good quality here and very quick for a dvd screener. this is the one to get till retail

at first glance this sample didnt look so bad. Unfortunately after seeing the source DVDR that FCR put out. It is very easy to see why this release was NUKED for squished pic and bad ar. This release has a very tiny horizontal to vertical ratio. Squished is an understatement. The audio is very good. And I found the movie to be more enjoyable than most i guess.

7.5/8/8

The DVDR by FCR is the best comparison.

Correct Aspect Ratio and Excellent sound

Posted by CoNS on 07-19-2005 12:26 AM:

I can confirm that fortuyn is right about this one: The source for this release is in fact a mislabelled telecine copy, and not a dvdscreener. Same goes for the XviD release by LEGACY and the DVDR release by FCR, which originate from the same source.

The release has all of the characteristics of a telecine copy. Most remarkably it has the distinct occasional "cigarette burns" (reel burns) in the upper right corner (screenshot). So shut up, bcool2k, and quit the flaming.

It also has quite many video artefacts, i.e. dust, dirt or scratches which were transferred from the film reel in the telecine process (examples here and here).

Also, it's PAL as all telecine copies are, whereas most dvdscreeners are NTSC. And it has no warnings, "property of..." messages, black and white scenes etc., like almost all dvdscreeners do.

However, props to the ppl who made this telecine source for mixing the audio stream nicely in sync with the video, unlike many other telecine releases. On the other hand they somehow screwed up when transferring the video. The telecine source has a very annoying "motion blur" throughout the whole movie. It shows whenever there's high speed motion in the picture (examples here and here).

All in all, the release is a rather high quality telecine copy, but nonetheless it's still a "raw" telecine copy, which has not been digitally remastered by the film studio. It hasn't been released by the film studio (Fox), and it has never been intended as a dvdscreener. My guess is that the source come from a bootleg DVD "factory" located in Asia or Eastern Europe or Russia that create PDVDs for the bootleg market.

Same story as all widescreen "DVDSCR" releases by TEG-DVD and TEG-VCD and many "DVDSCR" releases by MoF, too. Read more here. That page also has a lot of background info about the telecine process and dvdscreeners in general.

Now, why do I care in the first place? Well, I'm picky about the quality of movie releases, and I want to know what I'm getting, before spending time and bandwidth on a release. And I get pissed off when I download a movie only to find out that the scene group has tried to sneak a telecine copy through as a dvdscreener. I might aswell have downloaded the correctly labeled telecine SVCD release by TUN instead, which was out a month before this one (released by METEOR as DVDR).

Also, mislabelled "DVDSCR" releases like this one make it impossible for other scene groups to release real dvdscreener copies of the same movie, due to the scene rules. If the scam is not revealed and the release is nuked for mislabelling at the distro sites, that is!

I didn't watch this release, but I scanned through it, looking for some B&W scenes or copyright messages, but I couldn't find any!

This might as well be considered a DVDrip.
Perfect quality!

The movie itself was just okay for me.

I liked it.. there was a bad smear in like 5 scenes, like where theres alot of solid color (the seat backings in the car) but otherwise, looks like a quality dvd screener. I also actually enjoyed the movie. I was hoping it would be a mix between comedy and action just like true lies, and it was rather spot on. Sound had hiss, like it was using some low grade conversion equipment, but never lost synch.

8/7/7

note: I downloaded the dvdr, and all signs say its region free, and I even burnt a region 1, but my stand alone dvd player says it can't play because of area restrictions. Guess because it's PAL? Never had a screener problem like this before.

Posted by CCkid on 07-19-2005 08:10 PM:

Nice pic, clear strong sound. Only gets a 7 because Jolie has sexy lips and makes any movie a 7+ otherwise it would be a 5 or less

This is NOT a TC or cam. if you think it might be you are either blind or have downloaded a misslabled file.

Good DVD rip quailty all the way through, I have no complaints

I Hate TC and Cams, and can spot one within 5 seconds of starting a movie, this is no TC

The movie itself is not that bad, a bit of brain dead action entertainment, i like that once in a while.

You are so sure? Explain this one: http://home20.inet.tele.dk/tegmof/mams/mams_cigburn.jpg
A telecine it is.....

Posted by lordtear on 08-01-2005 02:07 AM:

Awesome! This movie is, in general, a perfect "pre-dvd" release. The only other way to get a perfect score would to be a full DVD release. This movie is one you would love to port over to DVD to watch anywhere and everywhere. Legacy gets a 4 star rating from me.

Movie 9.0/8.5/9.0

LT

Posted by CoNS on 08-01-2005 08:39 PM:

Yes, a telecine it is, indeed.

Monitorm, I think you're confusing telecine (TC) with telesync (TS)? http://www.vcdquality.com/faq.php

Posted by kurisu on 08-02-2005 09:24 AM:

i can not believe all this sheep rating this movie as they are. why rate if you are blind or don't know the difference between dvd source and tc... i was watching this yesterday with my gf and after 5 minutes i said to her 'damned this looks like a tc i've been had'... (before coming here to see these moronic comments)

alltho i guess it was great for a tc i don't like it at all. and mislabelling should end in a scene ban.

hiss in the sound, rough video, crappy movie

3/3/3
