Worst ending: AI.
Jeepers Creepers had an awful ending. It would have been a cool movie otherwise.
Haha, the ending to AI was terrible.
I think the ending to The Truman Show was pretty nifty. Benny & Joon had an amazing ending as well.
One of the worst endings that I can remember has to be from Monsters Inc. Don't get me wrong, I loved the film, it's just the poor expression on Sullys face. "Kitty". Poor.
Ok my pick isn't the worst ending but it is the one that leaves me the most dissapointed.
Back to the Future 3.
I hate that whole flying train sequence. I just cant watch it. As soon as Marty hits 88mph and returns to 1985 i have to swich off the DVD/Tape/Laserdisc/TV. In my opinion its a bad end to an amazing trilogy.
I mean Doc cant fix the delorean in 1885 because parts hadn't been invented yet but he can develop a time traveling flying train?? (Actually i can let the flying bit go as he may have been to the future and fitted a hover conversion)
Anyway.. Thats my pick. Its probably not going to be a popular one either (Sorry Slippers!!)

The best can be none other that The Usual Suspects. Period.
standard version of sixth sense ending is utter pants. the deleted scene version which is about 20secs longer (and doesn't have a badly cut fade on it) rounds the film off a lot better.
unbreakable.. that movie really didn't do it for me. probably with shamalayan is he has great ideas for films, then they all have 9 billion flaws in them that ruin the movie.

Worst ending:
Swimming Pool.
Just back from seeing this. My gf dragged me to see it kicking and screaming tonight. I only relented since the past few movies we've seen have been more male oriented!
What a fucking waste of 2 hours.
Usual Suspects and Sixth Sense I liked a lot. Unbreakable I saw coming a mile away. Shawshank Redemption is great, of course.
There are lots of kinda unremarkable films that nonetheless have really well-done endings that leave you smiling to yourself as the credits roll ... some that come to mind: Murder at 1600, Wayne's World, True Lies, Interstate 60 (okay, not so unremarkable
), ...

I love endings that just slam home and the credits roll before you even know what hit you, The Usual Suspects was already mentioned, but here's a few I'm thinkin of right now
-Bully
-Resevoir Dogs
-Menace II Society
-O
-Session 9
-Requiem For a Dream
I was wondering when Requiem For A Dream would make an appearance.
BTW - Signs was a rubbish film. It didn't make any sense and the ending was obviously cobbled together at the last minute as they used up their meagre special effects budget on Michael Barrymoore lookalike alien costumes.
im going with requiem for a dream and american history X .
vanilla sky- everyone i know thinks it a fuckin great ending, or fucking awful. personally, i liked it.
Maybe getting a little off topic as this wasn't at the very end of the movie, but the part in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair with all the guys in the bowler hats was priceless.
I've never seen the original, btw ... does it also have that scene?
Same with pretty much all the good heist movies ... they all have cool resolutions -- Ocean's Eleven and The Italian Job, for example.

Here's a couple:
-Identity
-Evil Dead Trilogy
-The Thing
-Fight Club
Fuck ... I just finished watching Home Room. Credits are still rolling. That has got to be the best unhappy ending to a film I've ever seen.
For a second there before the ending scene, I thought it was fucked, but then it ended perfectly.
Jesus ... someone really better win an award for this shit.

I'd also like to add another that just came to me:
The Blair Witch Project, brilliant ending.
The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, and The Usual Suspects.

Probably one of the Best ever endings was in The Original The Godfather, where all the mob bosses were killed, and seeing Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) taking over as the new Don Corleone, and with his wife Kaye looking in, as the Bosses close the door. I got chills just seeing this movie.
another that would qualify for a good ending would have to be the Original Friday the 13th, where the heroine had just killed the serial killer, if you remember that was Jasons Mother, Mrs. Voorhees, (played wonderfully by Betsy Palmer), this movie also marked one of Kevin Bacon's earlier movies, and while the heroine was recovering in the boat, a deformed Jason comes out of the Lake to pull her in. The end.
Still if you want great endings, i would have to say it would be the original Lethal Weapon, no, I dont mean where Riggs gives Murtaugh the Bullet, but the final action sequence with Riggs and Gary Busey's character, it was classic, cause if u put those two in a ring for real, they would be evenly matched.
One of the worst endings I would have to comment, and this is in new slap to Mystic Slippers, the second and third installments of Back to the Future.
Part 2---where Marty was fighting with Biff for control of the Sports Almanac, and while doing so, gets the 1980's Doc Brown send back to 1880's and then that express guy deliverying the letter soon after?? whats up with that?? and then to top that, have Marty run back to town, to see the 1950's Doc, who had sent back the Original 1980's Marty Back to the Future. Please, yes i like the movie, but the ending was insulting and horrible.
and BTTF 3--I agree with my son 404, to have that Train come out of no where, after the Dolorean had been destroyed. I know its a movie, but the lesson that most parts were not available til 1950's, and worst yet, to tell Marty and Jennifer that, Doc and Clara (Mary Steenburgen) had two sons named Jules and Verne?? please.
anyways those where my picks. I have more, but too long to mention.

Donnie Darko has a great ending imho
Some of the best endings are Momento, American Beauty, Usual Suspects, Dirty Pretty Things, and Femme Fatale (The movie sucked, but the enidng was pretty cool). The worst ending ive seen recently (there are so, so many) Gigli, but Swimming Pool and Mulholland Drives endings were pretty screwed up too.

Identity had fast turns? Ok, but does that make it a bad movie? Identity kicks ass.
Oh and Blair Witch 2 is an ok movie, it doesn't have the shaky cam, but if you don't like any kind of twists whatsoever, don't waste your time on that one.

So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" Lately I've been getting around to see movies that people have said were great. The Thing is I love how the movie is going but then I see the ending and I feel it sucks horribly. Most recently was:
Gangs of New York
Identity
For Gangs the movie was badass it got even better when Amsterdam was starting the battle then you know how it goes and I'm like WTF! they just ruined the movie.
Identity was a good movie but when you first get the general idea of what it really is then I was like damn this movie now sucks.I know most people won't agree with me on this but this is how I feel about it just didn't sit right. It indeed was a very interesting and straying from ordinary ending but not my cup of tea.
Well anyway here's some more pics for best/worst ending/s
Best:
Memento
Clockwork Orange
Godfather
Goodfellas
Worst:
BTTF III(Come on Doc where are you gonna get the 1.21 gigawatts needed for time travel in 1885!!)
Gangs of New York
Planet of the apes(burton trash)
Joy Ride(Hence the 4 alternates on the dvd)
More of course but can't remember

Chasing Amy - With out a doubt, the best ending ever in a movie. Couldn't have been better thought out.

Here are some:
Primal Fear
The game
Basic Instinct
Seven
No way out
Wow too much to address here
Basic had WAAAAY too many twists, but i still enjoyed the movie
Signs is a masterpiece, and I agree with everything sven said
Joy Ride was a great movie with a great ending, and the 4 alternates on the dvd kicked ass too, bleh!
I loved Chasing Amy's ending, great pick
And uhh...yeah thats it.

If you want a movie with too many turns watch Basic. That movie didn't make sense at all. All you really had to do was know the plot and then watch the last 10 minutes because the rest of the movie is BS.
Best ending: The Blair Witch project
Worst ending: 28 days later. How predictably boring.
p.s. Signs is a masterpiece, but not his best work. I really liked Unbreakable. The ending in that one is a good too.
p.p.s. It was never mentioned in Signs that water killed the aliens. It could have been the chlorine in the water, or minerals, or as I like to think...
It was Holy water.
The TV mentioned the solution (not water specifically) being found in the middle east (very holy lands) and Gibson's character was of the sort that would have blessed his well.
Kinda ties in with the whole "found his faith again" symbolism, no?

few endings i like..
John Carpenters The thing - You just dont know if he's infected or not or if he's just gonna freeze there and die.
Godfather Part 2 - The last scene where it showws micheal corlene sat as fredo is killed thats some powerful shit as you witness his descent into everything he didnt want to become
Shawshank redemption - That movie is just a masterpeice and written by one of the greatest contempory writers of our generation.
Usual Suspects - Masterpeice and this came from a movie that everyone predicted was doomed to fail.
Signs - Deep when you look into that movie
Carlitos way - Awesome movie
Truman Show - another awesome movie
n there would also be fight club seven etc etc
Endings i hate
Hannibal - Lame
The Hulk - cheesy
cabin fever - i dunno i just didnt like it i thought it was a cop out idea
28 days later - Bollocks
Home Alone - i wish theyd got that lil smart ass fucker and strung him up with the xmas lights
hey leave 28 days later alone....
Signs was pretty cool but the ending wasn't at all intelligent or original.
and there were some gaping plot holes, I mean what was the mentality behind the aliens choosing earth to attack?
Alien1 - "Let's attack here"
Alien2 - "The planet that's covered mostly in water?"
Alien1 - "Yes"
Alien2 - "We're allergic to water"
Alien1 - "And?"
Alien2 - "What happens when it rains?"
Alien1 - *shrug*
Alien2 - "You're an idiot"
I actually did enjoy the film though.
Anyway, best endings... hmmm I liked:
Chasing Amy
The Eye (Really enjoyed it, I know quite a few people hated it)
Sixth Sense (First viewing)
Blair Witch
...and probably a lot more I just can't think of at the moment
Worst endings?
Stephen Kings IT
Stephen Kings DreamCatcher
Stephen Kings Needful Things
... are we sensing a theme here? I love the guys ideas and quite a lot of his books/films. IT was one of the scarriest films I've seen but the ending... the giant spider. That was just plain shit.
**multiple post sorry**
I kind of liked the ending to Needful Things but yeah, a lot of King's adaptations are either shit or have shit endings (or both). A great adaptation is Rose Red, scary flick with a great ending. Other than pretty much that, you can add all of the other King adaptations to worst endings.

Worst ending has got to be jaws 4 the revenge. how the fuck can stabbing a shark with the bow of the boat make it explode????
Matrix 2 leaves you hanging big style,( thank god we only have to wait a few weeks till its release).
The best has to be se7en, usual suspects was spot on.
I like films where the usual formula is not followed i.e the good guy does'nt always win, get the girl ori f we are lucky the good guy dies. Most movies have this notion that the good guy always wins if that was the case then movies would be really bad as they do not always need a hero just a believable plot where you can't predict the ending 5 minutes into the flik.
I remember sleep away camp movies lol. I liked "The Life of David Gale" that was a good movie all around. I thought "Wes Craven: They" was not all that good.
quote:

Best: Requiem for a dream
And to the fuckers that claim matrix reloaded has a crappy ending:
Thats not an ending, the movie(story) hasnt ended yet. Wait for november.
