Argh ... I didn't realize it was just a mini-series. Pretty good so far. I don't understand how they'll come to any sort of conclusion in 5 episodes.

Didn't look like anything more than that to me. I watched the first two and wondered if it was a mini-series or not. Just does'nt look like it could go anywhere.

From the beginning it is easy to see why the people were there and what they were going to do.

I do enjoy the show but , like I said, looks like and feels like a mini-series and I am glad that is all that it is. I just hope there is more ending to it than that show with the other little girl who knew everything and was just waiting for the aliens to do their thing.(wth was that series called)

July 23, 2004 -- USA has a hit on its hands with "The 4400" - and there could be more episodes on the way.

The six-episode, sci-fi-flavored series shattered cable records in its July 11 debut and did well in its second outing - leading network and show officials to begin thinking about a second season.

"The concept has legs and the story engine has a couple of cops on the case so we know where it goes after six episodes," says Jeff Wachtel, USA's executive VP of longform and series entertainment.

"Our intention was always to treat it as an 'event' and as an extended pilot for a series."

Although there's nothing definitive yet, it's also likely that, should USA renew "The 4400," it would also air on one of USA's sister networks in what's called "re-purposing."

USA is now part of the NBC-Universal family, whose other networks include SCI FI and Bravo. Bravo's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" has been "re-purposed" on NBC, while USA's "The Dead Zone" also aired on SCI FI.

"The 4400" revolves around thousands of people who've vanished over the last 50 years - only to suddenly reappear after a brilliant flash of light near Mt. Rainier in Washington State.

The series averaged 7.4 million viewers in its premiere and was the highest-rated, most-watched new series premiere in basic-cable history.

Last Sunday's episode fell slightly to 5.6 million viewers, an average percentage dropoff for a new show's second episode.

"This is a clean and compelling concept so [the viewer] gets it right away," says Wachtel.

"And it's a big idea with a human face to it. Internally, we called the show 'Life Interrupted' ... it's the combination of a big concept and the humanity behind it that seems to be striking a chord."

"4400" executive producer Ira Behr says there's been some thought given as to where the show's plot could go if it's renewed for a full season.

"Of course, among ourselves, we theorized where we could go [with the show]," he says. "And there are certainly places I believe the show can go that are extremely interesting.

"If we felt it was 'six-and-out' [episodes] it would be difficult to get a jones for the show," he says. "But we could keep extrapolating various paths."

Behr feels the show's appeal to a more diverse audience - rather than only appealing to sci-fi fans - is a key to its success.

"It seems like everyone has an opinion on this subject," Behr says. "Basically it's about something that happens to people - there's not a lot of hardware and jargon involved and people don't feel gun-shy about tuning in ...they understand it."

SPOILERS BE HERE!

****** SPOILERS ******

So, that finale was awesome. I *so* wanted the fetus to kick ass in this episode, and it did!

My thought is that the baby will take the place of the "alien" liaison that was living in Kyle.

Also, did anyone notice in the third episode that the guy who was behind all the serial killings was abducted on the same date that Jordan Collier was? I thought that that was going to somehow be important, but they never mentioned it aside from showing the date on screen. Certainly the fact that he seems to be "evil" might mean that that date has some significance that we'll find out about later.

In any case, I definitely like the way things ended. Nothing wrapped up, paving the way for a full-blown series.

::MORE SPOILERS ALERT::

horiz you liked that ending? reminded me of that stupid fucking movie Contact where you wait the whole movie to find out the alien takes form of the dumb slut's dad. I thought the last episode could of been done so much better and actually came away rather disappointed by it. I was however overall impressed by the short series overly enjoying i'd say 3 out of the 5 episodes and am hoping that they make the next season worked. (if you watched the marathon to the final episode you would know between episode 4 and the last episode the announcer said something along the lines of "and now the 4400 season finale." So, I guess it's official now

Posted by Dwaggy on 08-11-2004 06:37 AM:

tvtome lists it as a returning series. JOY

And that finale kicked ass... if we see a full blown series, that is..

Otherwize its not as much of the ass kicking type!

Well, I may as well bump this thread as I just started (and closed) a new one... The fucking show has only just aired in the UK but ep1 was pretty decent. Certainly very "X-Files" but that's no bad thing I suppose. I'm glad it's a miniseries though, it's not really original enough to warrant a full-blown TV series.

the person from the USA network is smokin a lil something good, only 5 eps have been aired, last i heard they were still considering the series or not.

Posted by horizonstar on 11-30-2004 08:26 PM:

There were 5 episodes, but the first one was 2 hours ... so that's 6 "hours" of television.

And Neversoft, regarding your post in that thread you closed ... no worries. It's not X-Files at all. It looks that way at the beginning ... but it's not. By the time you're done with all 5 episodes, you're going to want it to be a full-blown series. Which is good, because they'll probably be making one.

I've watched the two eps so far and I have to say its not that good, I was engrossed with Taken and now have it on DVD but this program just doesnt do it for me. All the "powers" the the 4400 have since they came back seem really generic and ripped off from different films/programs.

Besides the very close relatives to Mulder & Scully we have the guy who can heal/hurt people with touch (a weird hybrid of E.T & that fine one from X-Men) and the guy who can crack skulls when angry (again a mix of the Hulk and someother superhero I can't remember that can do that) SO all in all it seems very generic and formulaic but somebit enjoyable.

I grabbed the release of 2x01 last night but haven't found time to watch it yet, I'm glad something is starting up this time of year, I get fed up that everything stops until autumn.

Anyone seen it yet, is it more of the same?

Posted by doctor zoidy on 06-07-2005 07:40 PM:

its getting stranger, and the geeks in the basement are playing a bigger role, at least in the first episode.

i was thoroughly impressed with the new episode, and i am considering picking up the season one dvd, if only for remembering what happened last year...

so far it starts off a year from last season, baby is six months old, sean (healer) has been living with jordan (bill campbell's celebrity character) and misses his family...
the main investigator had been put on desk duty until now, and is back in the field with all sorts of stipulations and restrictions, the director was replaced by a woman, the female investigator legally adopted maya (psychic 6 year old) who claims to have not had visions for a few months, and more and more ripples are being discovered ala numb3rs type chaos theory...

so.... i like it

I was sorta expecting Tom's ex-wife to star in the series, but I guess maybe they gave up on her?

i have to agree completely, my ex girlfriend got me hooked into this show from the second showing of the first episode and i havent turned back since....i'd have to say the ending of season one i was disapointment but they've more then made up for it so far, i'm rarely one to really get into a show like this (lots of people compare this to x-files, which i could only handle so much of before it just pissed me off) so it's a refreshing genere for me. Superbaby + shotguns = AWESOME GOOD TIME

Well, we can only assume she was sent to "do the right thing" according to the "future people". Personally I liked the way she tricked Collier. I could totally see it coming too. The vision was too idyllic to be real.

Kinda weird that Shawn would take over for Collier. Didn't he have any higher underlings? And does Shawn even really believe in all that "Key" mumbo-jumbo? (Although apparently so given what he said and gave to Lindy Booth's character.)

Kyle rocks, btw.

I didn't realize it more until this last episode. But I agree. With this last episode (without revealing spoilers), life is shown without the 4400. So naturally I assumed that with Collier gone, the 4400 ended (at least for a moment). I was dead wrong about the episode. I can say that this last episode, was *weirder* than most....

Posted by horizonstar on 07-21-2005 06:57 AM:

Yeah, just watched this last ep yesterday. Awesome stuff. I'm creaming over that new chick -- I hope she'll be in a lot of eps from now on.

The only problem was how much the episode reminded me of that Star Trek where essentially the same thing happens to Picard. But this was darker ... cool stuff.

::edit:: By the way, it's not that I disagree about the baby (Isabel). I think she *is* way fucked up and *is* instinctively using her powers for "evil", as in the case of her half-sister. It's like she was jealous of her, and so she hurt her. The Collier thing wasn't enough to make me not like her, but the half-sister development was.

While I love this show, every time I watch it I can't forget that they have totally miscast what could be a truly fantastic show.

The lead guy has just got no individuality, very boring looking with no personality.

I will still watch it because I like the story and the plot but am pissed off that the decision makers chose the fuckwit that they did. David Duchnovy made X-Files great because he didn't look like he has been sending in head shots for every show from friends to star trek, the lead guy in 4400 looks far too "average model actor" to make this series really stand out.

By the way, I am not gay for Mulder, I am just trying to rationalise why the fuck this program isn't doing as well as it should.

The program ain't bad, but its a bit of a poor mans X-Files...

I've liked the last couple episodes. USA does tend to do a thing where the middle episodes of its seasons don't have much to do with the overall story arc.

Lexa Doig is now the new chief medic on Stargate SG-1.

The show seems to have hit a wall. The basic premise was fantastic, if they had the imagination and talent behind the show they could have made about 10 series in which they show how each of the 4400 have been changed and what its meant for the future(practically they should have called it the 240) They casually mention "the ripple effect" every now and then but for fucks sake they need to put more effort and imagination into it and cater for the more intelligent viewer.

I cant wait untill this summer when season 3 starts to air. I hope that Isabel isnt in it, shes nice to look at, but she is the worst actor i have seen in a long time.

New season started yesterday.

After watching shows like "Heroes" & "lost" the 4400 seems a little shit really, they use the old and predictable formular for each show and this season seems to be going in the same directiuon as the other which is nowhere, 4 seasons in and we know as much as we did in the first episode.

Im sure il still carry on watching it, but its dropped way down in my tv shows i actually give a fuck aboot watching
