they 'say' stress can cause a lot of things physically.
Personally i don't believe a direct link between say, Stress and back pain for example.

but there could be a connection with stress and physical symptoms like this..
.
Stressed > sad > depressed > slouching = back pain.
or
Stressed > sad > comfort eating > weight gain and so on.

why whats up?

My chest has been bothering me lately and when I eat I feel really full and almost sick. I went to the doctor not too long back and he thought I was just stressed out. He prescribed me Xanax and some other things, and while Xanax seemed to be working (and ridding me of the feeling)...the feeling has come back. And after being gone for about a month.

I work in a job where I am responsible for staff, I can influence the direction that the area of my company takes and I am often given projects that have budgets and proposed savings/profits of over £20m.

As such, I get extremely fucking stressed. I drink... a lot... to get through it. WAAAAY too much.

I also get cranky at home which fucks my home life up... I can be a right dick to my kids and missus. I'm not physically abusive but I can be a bit of an arsehole sometimes (don't get me wrong - I'm a loving father and would do anything for my kids but I can get too tightly wound sometimes).

I also occasionally take drugs (not as much as I used to) when I go out with my friends which leads to a state of depression afterwards which then adds to the stress and problems at home/work.

Welcome to my world... it sucks!

Fix the root cause of the stress and everything else should sort itself out.

I'm sorry to hear that, I see how that could be extremely stressful. The thing with me is I'm not too sure what is causing this 'stress'. Some (myself included) would assume it's because I have a son on the way,and that could obviously be it, but if it is stress, I feel it's more than that...

Nah, don't be. As soon as I posted it I realised how whiney it sounded as I earn good money and have a pretty good life overall but it's not without it's negatives... it's whether you personally decide that the benefits outweight the negatives. I've obviously made that decision so I need to suck it up.

You probably are just reacting to the knowledge that you are going to become a father. I don't want to make things worse for you but that is the single biggest thing you can undertake as a person (IMO). Mortgages, jobs and relationships can't compare.

You're just being real. I guess idk what to make of this having a baby thing. I'm very excited, but maybe I don't know if I'll succeed. I worry about a lot of things though, and constantly. So obviously that could be where the stress is coming from, but i can't directly pin-point it.

I worried constantly until the second that little shit-machine was born. Then I spent 24 hours immersed in joy and confusion... and shit.

99.9% of men step up to the plate once their kid is born so you have nothing to worry about. Instinct will take over and you'll do fine.

about xanax:

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing (didnt know what you meant about your chest); swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

depressed mood
urinating less than usual or not at all;
drowsiness, dizziness, feeling irritable;
amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating
sleep problems (insomnia)
blurred vision
nausea, vomiting, constipation, appetite or weight changes;
dry or watery mouth, increased sweating; or
loss of interest in sex.

I didnt list everything, but some of those seem to fall into your explanation of whats going on. Anything you ingest, you should be aware of the side effects, beyond those on the bottle, it can only help in the long run, i think. And if in doubt, second guess a doctor, it saved my moms life. Hope I helped

Thank you. I did research the side-effects and all that. And plus I got a paper telling me all about Xanax when I got the prescription filled. But I do appreciate. The reason I went to the doctor (the day I got the Xanax) was for having the symptoms I mentioned in my original post. The Xanax seemed to help, but now idk what's up, the feeling is back. I have been trying to take Norco (which I got for removed wisdom teeth a few weeks back) in hopes of ridding my chest of that feeling, but it doesn't last too long. I probably shouldn't be taking the Norco at all, but at least it helps for the moment. Meh.

Note: The feeling doesn't hurt, it's just irritating, it's hard to explain. I'll just assume it's stress from what I have read about what symptoms result from it.

OSH, just because you go to a Quack with a "funny feeling" and he tells you its stress.

WTF!!!!!

So if he said it was the start of schizophrenia, then there would be more symptoms than just stress.

We all stress, I dont get any funny feelings that are hard to explain, I get Stressed, mentally with over a duration of time, affecting me physically.

I would seek another opinion from a doctor that someone you know can attest to. just a thought.

It might not be what you are led to believe.

you say you cant pinpoint any reason for the stress.

I would look more down the depression line..............

Are you feeling sad?

I re-read the symptoms....stress my arse till the hole caves in.

If you like a drop or two and feel turned off by food aka not eating and chest/upper stomach pains, then go get a laproscapy I think the the problem is internal.

I am a chippie though

It's like an annoying feeling in my chest, not painful, but annoying. That is the best that I can describe it. It lasts all day, everday.

It doesn't really disable me from doing anything, but it's annoying enough that it makes me not want to do anything (hard to understand i'm sure). And I'd say pretty mild.

I've been what I believe to be stressed for a few months, and yes I'm currently in a relationship. A relationship that makes me very happy!

My cicrumstances at home?

seems like chronic anxiety..the butterfly feeling people get in their abdominal area can be felt inthe chest area too - practice breathing excercises and excercise frequently...get to sleep early enough so you have 7hrs sleep - if u are stressed and neglect excercising your body , it can often lead to much worse problems in the future (mainly heart related)....thats all i can say without a physical examination

Have you tried wanking?

Yeah, you thought it was a put down, didn't you?

But, no, seriously. Pent up sexual aggression is a common cause of (both male and female(!)) stress.

A good wank is the easiest non-medicated relief and - unless you need to be catatonic - better than any medication (in the long-term). It's not going to make your issues any smaller, but it'll help clear your head as the endorphins give you a natural buzz. Most people do masturbate, but the majority of the world doesn't wank enough (Of course, if you're in a new relationship and banging like in a Duracell advert then this may not help, but it's true for the 'average' male with stress who gets laid every few days/weeks/anniversaries).

But I suspect that you wank more than enough to drag up the averages.

(That there was a snide remark.)

Thank you. I don't sleep very well. I usually get like 4-6 hours, on a daily basis. I appreciate your responses.

And as far as wanking goes, I could go for a good one.

This may sound stupid but i advised a friend once who was suffering panic attacks
to read a book.

You wont feel 'in the mood' for it, but force yourself to read some pages.
Set a goal, like upto page 20. Then Force yourself to read upto that page.

He wasn't what you would call a 'book reader' so he had to force himself to do it.
When he felt the feeling begin, he lay down in bed turned off the TV (or whatever)
and just read the words. Before he knew it, he was into the story and forgot about the anxiety attack.

Personally i would only go the drug route as a last resort.
find a way to take your mind off it 'yourself'
and you will be proud of yourself for that

Once you devolup the 'tools' yourself. You can reapply them any time.

lol, i remember when i first started to try meditation.
Man, the mind can play strange tricks. but i learnt to control the shit and now i mostly just fall asleep doing it. lol

That's good advice. I have a couple books that I've been meaning to read too. Maybe more time reading, and less time dedicated to the tube will do me good. I need to get on a better sleeping schedule too!

I've tried mediating, but I don't know the proper methods..if it isn't just sitting there and clearing your thoughts. Lol.

Same here. The last three people I admitted to hospital for 'routine tests' never came out again. Have also left instructions that if they did find something serious, they are not to tell me. I'd rather die ignorant and happy than knowledgable and miserable.

Those who know me, or have seen my pic know that I have no hair. 90 percent of the hair on my body is gone. I was literally months away from dying and I wasn't doing too much to stop it.

Bad marriage, too much debt, working full time, schooling full time, sleeping (no exaggeration here) 6-8 hours a week. Nearly 4.5 years of that shit. I gained a bunch of weight, and just pretty much was waiting to die.

Stress is bad, mmmkay?

The stress levels certainly fed any and all of my natural tendencies towards running as fast as I can through life (though they usually take the form of sky diving, rappelling, scuba diving, etc...).

I still don't sleep much. Cant be bothered, though I'm certainly enjoying life almost as much as before I got married these days.

If money stress went away, I'd be so fucking relaxed and carefree, it would be sickening for the rest of the world to watch.

When you stress a lot you lose magnesium. Stay away from caffeine (coffee, sodas etc) it drains the magnesium out of your body.

Eat foods that contains magnesium, it is really good.

Eat a lot of these, they contain magnesium:
spinach
nuts (especially cashews and almonds)
black-eyed pea
milk: low fat
peanutbutter (downside: too fatty)

FUCK YOU

When I'm stressed which is all the time, I just try and take some time out for myself and just do what I wanna do. Not care about anyone else for that brief time.

Grant it, by being selfish and taking some "me time" it's not going to resolve your issues, but maybe you can get some perspective and try and resolve, if not resolve try to learn to deal with your issues.

Before Bran passed away my life was go go go, Not so much now. My life is still stressful, but for other reasons.

My life is our time..as in my family

MY time is interacting with the family

time out is when I want it.

Take control and determine when how and what you want from life.

don't let the life control you.

try controlling it.
